I just found this by accident whilst searching through some of my old detailing podcast episodes on here. Wow I can't wait to watch this shortly. Well done in deciding to do a documentary on the industry I love and what gave me so much passion and a reason to get up every morning. I'm thirty years into detailing as a professional this year though Im now training people and doing R & D testing and I'm sure that I will learn some great things from this video despite my experience and knowledge,. life is a never ending journey of learning.

Great work Mat! I got my first car in the late 80’s and always liked to keep it clean. I had a classic MG for a few years which I took to a car show every now and then so went a bit further than just cleaning it. It was in 2006 that I discovered the Detailing World forum and learnt to machine polish which takes everything to the next level. I learnt from articles on Detailing World, would have been much easier if KZread detailing content was around then! Originally with a Porter Cable that I imported from the USA, then a rotary and on to long throw DA’s once they hit the scene. It was all about waxes and polymer sealants then the ceramic products started to arrive. Even so, it’s not changed that much. We’re all just keeping our car clean and shiny at the end of the day which is what it’s always been about.

Mat, thanks for your video, very interesting. At age 17, I received my first car, a 1968 Camaro Convertible and I started car care. Now some 50 years later, the car care industry has totally changed. When I first started, I used dish soap for shampoo, chamois for drying, and an old wash mitt, which I still use today on the wheels. The wax of choice was Turtle Wax in a can, and boy you had to use a lot of elbow grease to remove it. Thanks to the internet & computers and watching thousand & thousands of videos, anyone can learn today and see different products to use. Because I live in the States, I like using American made products when possible. I also like getting the most bang for the buck. Thanks again...

Fantastic job ! Lot of information provided by different detailers and brand owners give to this documentary a pretty consistent view of what we, as enthusiast or weekend warriors, are chasing for our believed cars. Everyone had his own point of view on what is working best for him, or which process is the most efficient regardless the region of the globe you are living in. That is definitely helpful when we see new brands popping up every here and there. Congrats Mat !

the simplest definition of detailing I think is "vehicle surface care" the cleaning, restoration, enhancement, protection and preservation of vehicle surfaces. using only what those surfaces need to get them clean, looking and feeling their best and protected so they stand the test of time. it's the combination of an artform and a truly skilled craft

I hope the future is super concentrated multi purpose products, I find it crazy how much water we are buying especially ready to use tyre cleaner, pre wash, wheel cleaner, bug remover etc. when really a good APC (or Decon shampoo) can do all of those jobs.

I don't like coatings. I tried 3. Its a headache to use and the waterspots in this area is terrible with a coating. I rather do a light polish every year and use easy to use sealants. Rupes UNO advanced seems very promising with a top up. Runny but you can get used to it. Seems to really clogged my polishing pads however. So i ran them through a machine wash.

Pan is great, and like or not, he's had a huge influence on the social media side of detailing and bridging the gap between enthusiasts and manufacturers

I have to give a thumbs down on this video. Ceramic coatings are not so strong in Canada...lucky to get 2 years with very intense maintenance.

Great video except for one thing; you focused on and spent too much time with Pan. There are a lot of excellent detailers out there, most of whom dont have the ego he does. There are a lot of detailers that sont care for him due to his biased reviews of products that are sponsored by the mfr. You cant trust any of his reviews because hes too easily bought. Add to that the fact there are far better detailers out there that are high volume guys that dral wirh bigger issues daily than he sees in a year. Better choices would have been Jadon Rose, Yvan, Renny Doyle, Larry Kosilla, all of these guys are innovators and veterans who have been ariund since the early days and have witnessed the growth and change our industry has experienced. Pan sees hinself as an icon which he is not.
