Your designs are, well, unlike any others and you still turn out top shelf guitars and mandolins and other stringed instruments that play and sound great! Love from NW Colorado. Thanxz

  • @JBergmansson

    @JBergmansson

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@timsway Yeah, they are probably right in their choice to use plastic containers. Reducing is important. But I sometimes get a bit scared of plastic. Many plastics are not currently recyclable in a way that is practical, (some are not recyclable at all) meaning that even when disposed of correctly by the consumer, the items end up in landfill. Many types of plastic should probably be completely phased out. Much in the same way as we phased out flourocarbons in the 90's. Microplastics in the ocean is already a big problem.

Always build your instrument's body around the bridge, pickups, nut, and tuning pegs first. Hey Tim! Ever thought about building a chapman stick? Those seem so cool to me, and I figured you could do some seriously fun stuff with it.

    that brand is particularly protective of it's design. If I built anything in that vein it would be a Sway Branch :)

    I love your mission. I am wondering though the environmental impacts of using epoxy and the micro plastics created when milling and finishing the micarta and epoxy?

    Epoxy is not a great thing to use, for the most part, and I avoid it/use it sparingly. THe stand for tyhis series was a thought experiment, not practical. I'm not sure about the microplastics left behind in the milling process and am curious to look in to it myself.

    Definitely getting, as the saying goes, some Jeff Goldblum vibes Mr. Sway! PS the mandolin is tuned the same as a violin, GDAE in 5ths PPS I note you put the neck pickup "the wrong way round"! not that it matters much! PPS, I think the only problem with the mandolin, is that the intonation sounds a bit off, but then you did paint yourself into the corner with the lack of space for the bridge! PPPS (Yes, Sorry!) Loved the whole concept, and indeed your approach to this. Hope you do well in the competition, and will be back to your channel on a regular basis.

    cheers. The neck pickup was wired to be placed in the way it is. I think I can shape the bridge a little more to better intonate the mando.

    Amazing build! I've had a mandolin for years but never got on with it - always struggled with the chords! Ever heard / played a bozouki? It's guitar sized but also has 2 courses of 4 sets of strings (I think that's how you describe it. Like a Mando basically), much easier to play as a guitar/bass player and I jive with the sound a lot more.

    I've heard of but never played one. The mando is way too small for my big fingers. lol
