    it's mild steel against hardened steel blades at high rpm on a high torque motor. What happened is exactly what I expected to happen. Fun to watch not really impressive.

    It is impressive, hitting a chunk of steel like that with hardened blades often results in shards of shattered blade flying everywhere. It is a testament to the toughness of the blades Rhino make. Looking at the edges, apart from one bend, which won't affect cutting, the rest of the damage looks like it will be just fine after a few minutes on a grinder.

    The cutter bars are on single bolt pivots. No need for a shear pin. If they hit something with enough force to overcome the centrifugal mass the blades pivot out of the way.

    I think the best thing about Cody´s hate for the metric system is that he uses it every single day! All imperial/Standard units are defined in metric(SI) units, and in reality the us has been using the metric system since 1893 they just convert the units to standard!

    Rhino tough is more then a marketing pitch, its simply true! Rhino builds equipment strong enough to handle some real unexpected loads and yet easy to repair. Can't find much fault with a company willing to put their products to such tests. If it can take this sort of impact and keep going, nothing you find in a pasture will ever slow it down! Thanks for bringing us along Mr and Mrs W, this sort of information is going to help convince people what quality is! It will also give folks an idea how powerful a mower is, and what dangers you need to deal with,

    It's a long-running joke for all-Amercan people like homesteaders and farmers to make fun of the metric system. No one truly hates it, we just keep using imperial because that's the way a lot of our brains think so it makes sense to us. It will take a couple more generations to wash imperial out, but for those of us who think in inches and feet it is still fun to tongue-in-cheek make fun of metric while kind of making fun of ourselves at the same time. Also, metric feels very clinical when you do carpentry. Imperial feels much more organic to someone who grew up with it -- our tables and cabinets and whatever feel right when they are 3 feet or 4 feet or 6 feet. A 2 meter table is just weird feeling at 6.5 feet. I don't want my table to be 71.12cm tall, I want it to be 28 inches. It's just a system we are embedded in so it feels natural. We honestly do use a ton of metric, despite what the world might think. All the parts on all my cars are metric... except the speedometer.

    As long as there are machines in industry that use the imperial measurement system we will continue to use it. That is going to be a long time. My little South Bend 9C was made in the 40's. I have repaired gang drills that had tags saying War Dept Paint. That was the First World War.

    I bought a house off a widow who came home from shopping and found her husband crushed under his brush hog attachment. He had lifted it, crawled under to detangle some wire or rope when the hydraulics let go. He must have suffered laying under there while his air was cut off. The wall of the hog was on his chest. He'd been dead for a short time when she returned. They were gut-renovating an old farm house which was half way done. After several years she decided to sell and I bought. Sad story but true. Should never go under a brush hog, ever.

    I didn't say that Metric is older than Imperial. It was Napoleons France who invented the Metrics system as the demand for weapons production skyrocketed (due to obvious reasons) and France was using different imperial measurements around the country which caused a lot of problems in standardisation and mass production. What I am trying to say in my comments is that back in 1875 The US signed the Metre Convention, which basically committed the country to use the metric system. In return, French scientists sent two platinum-iridium cylinders that weigh 1kg to the US in 1889 (known by their designations K4 and K20 from a set of 40 identical objects that were produced and sent around the world). So even though everything you see and buy in the US is usually reported in pounds, all weights are traceable back to the K20 kilogram (by applying a conversion factor to get to pounds).

  • @svendholme3627
    @svendholme36277 жыл бұрын

    Impressive brush hog test. The metric system is much easier to work with being based on multiples of 10. The problem for it not being adopted in the USA aside from cost, it seems to me, is folks using the imperial system do not have a "gut feeling" of the values. For instance what does a temperature of 38 degrees Celsius really feel like, is it a cool day or uncomfortably hot, or how big is a 20 Liter gas can or how fast are you traveling (Imperial) at 100 Kilometers per hour. However, the USA is slowly being dragged into the metric world bit by bit kicking and screaming whether it likes it or not. Automobiles built in Europe, China, Japan or Korea are metric. Appliances made in China and sold in the US are also metric. Any US manufacturer hoping to be successful selling their products overseas had better plan on them being metric. For the average person in day to day life the conversion of road signs from miles to kilometers or buying 2 kilograms of potatoes would be uncomfortable and confusing for about a year until a "gut feeling" was established. Dual road signs will not work it because a person will use the unit of measure they are familiar with and ignore the other, that was tried in 1975 and failed. No, conversion would not be easy or cheap but worth it in the long run.

    your neighbour's north of the border are 50/50 metric/standard and watching my boys learn each shows the power of the metric system... but we still buy lumber and building supplies by inches and feet. I could only tell you the temperature in celcius and the distance in kilometers but a standard door size would be in inches. maybe it's good to know both.

    brawn I'm in Britain and it's very annoying having imperial mixed with metric. I spent years deliberately forgetting imperial because it's so horribly antiquated. If I go into a shop and what I'm looking for is in imperial I'll just walk back out again, not many imperialists left over here now though, mainly junk shops where they belong. 😋

    @Paul, well with all that Brexit stuff going on, it might not be for long until you fall back into the good old ways of the Empire again, including the measuring system :(

    Paul Keating I'm also British and I like the fact I grew up during the period of conversion. It let's me use both sets of units and convert between them. Maybe we should discuss it over a 568.26ml of beer at some time.

    Richard Farrer A friend of mine swears by both, but that's because he's an architect and whilst "we" may use imperial very rarely, he couldn't operate without it at times. The imperial legacy will be around in one way or another for a while yet.

    I just think that is funny that the Imperial or the "standard" units of measurements are ACTUALLY converts from the Metric/SI system. The US was one of the original signatories of the of the "Treaty of the Metre" or "Metre Convention" back in 1875. So for the past 140 years the US HAS been using the metric system. They have just been converting it. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metre_Convention
