Destiny 2's Lore and Story from the Crota's End might've been very different if Oryx had intervened to assist Crota. So why didn't he? There are a variety of reasons, from Crota being exiled for allowing Vex to invade his father's throne world to the simple tenets of the sword logic. Today we'll be exploring the books of Sorrow and Sword Logic to understand this important part to the story of Crota's End.

    I never questioned why Oryx didn't help Crota. Why would he think he needed to? Crota had fought a thousand Guardians and not only won but he beat them so badly they banned all other attempts at fighting him. If 6 Guardians went against him after that then there's no reason they would be perceived as a real threat. At least not until it was too late.

    I think what is interesting is we now know that Xivu is somewhat reacting and attacking us out of vengeance. Does this mean that everytime she attacks us or kills out of vengeance for her brother, she is tithing to Eris and making her stronger?

  • @aztumtheknightofwumbo7060

    @aztumtheknightofwumbo7060

    11 ай бұрын

    Yes. This means she is now inadvertantly helping us kill her. She can't seek vengeance since she no longer benefits entirely from it. That tribute now scales to Eris. Eris is now a reactionary type of God. The more you seek to kill her, the more you seek retribution and vengeance, the more powerful she becomes.

  • @GD0nly
    @GD0nly11 ай бұрын

    One thought that I had is that revenge for killing Crota and Oryx is a bad motivation for Xivu Arath, because the way that the Hive should see it is that "guardians are more suited to the final shape than Crota and Oryx, therefore I should keen myself against their blades", but now that Eris is the Hive god of Vengeance, Xivu's revenge rampage tithes to Eris.

    Good video, that was an interesting connection to make between Crota’s death and the recent releases dialogue between Xivu and Savathun. Semi related: you NEED to do a lore deep dive video on the lore tab of the D2 Necrochasm. It connects together Cocytus, Crota, the Weapons of Sorrow, the Hive weaponsmith Enkaar, the Anointed, and Cursed Thralls, and drops some massive bombshells while also raising equally big questions.

    I can’t help thinking of what a twist it would be, if Eris not only killed Xivu Arath, but turned around and took the information from Savathun by force, via Strand and Deepsight, after the Witch Queen refuses. Only to nearly kill Savathun, before she escapes in fear. I do have to say, the raid on the Hellmouth would’ve been a much more different story if Oryx had been there.

    Im not sure I agree with the context of the tributes as to why Oryx came for us after crota. My understanding is that their morphs are related to the archetypes of king, witch and general. If I'm looking at it in the context I would in a novel, the king would kill his sons murderers the same way he would kill his daughters' murderers. Not for a tithe but for the disrespect and the potential threat to his position. Banished or not, crota was in a sense a prince.

    I think that audio recording was more of Savathun insulting her more successful brother one last time. Because Oryx knew his place in the universe, he knew his place in sword logic. Oryx knew that, inevitably, one day, he will meet someone or something much stronger than him and will kill him, he knew and accepted this. Albeit still finding a way to co-exist with his killer giving both his killer and himself power

    The way it sounds to me is that, through his exile, Crota proved his worth to his father. I imagine it would have taken a long time and many, many tithes but in that time Crota would have grown in both strength and knowledge probably to the point where Oryx ended Crotas banishment. I don't think Oryx would have asked him to come back though, with the way the hive work my guess is that Oryx ended the banishment but encouraged Crota to keep doing what he was doing because it was working for him (at the time anyway).

    Your videos always satisfy a part of my brain that I also keep godroll freakouts in. It is fantastic that you can take even more lore we've obtained and make such a great video out of something you covered years prior.

    Oryx responded to the whole situation like middle management. 'Why am I getting calls from corporate about problems with a branch manager? Handle your house.'

    I thought it was as simple as Oryx wasn't there. But I guess with all the retcons there's probably some way to communicate/intervene instantly regardless of distance.

    So I think the themeing with the Hive honestly is the idea of subbersion. We learned in Taken King the Hive began as short lived people who wanted more, very sympathetic. But then we learned they were tricked and whatever agency they have is slightly skewed now. Effectively forced to become genocide machines. But one theory has popped up in my brain recently, which is, what if the Hive don’t hate us because they hate us. What if they hate us because thats the only way they can cope with their new existence. If we were the Hive that’d be a miserable existence but we’d be compelled to push forward regardless. So might as well go all in. Still we see clear indications of the Hive having more complex emotions. Oryx despaired over his sons death in a way that I think was more than just concern for his own survival. Aluk Hul wanted to betray Oryx for the love of another. Literally everything going on with Savathung. And especially Xivu having a mental breakdown over the failure of the sword logic. Alot of the Hive seem to be shaken by Hive using the light. I think this begs the question if redemption is a possibility. People have talked about having buddy Hive Guardians but really, if the Hive get resurrected doesn’t that mean they have a clean slate? Aluk Hul was a monster but resurrected does he know that? They’re all defined by actions they do now more than ever I genuinely hope we can see some redemption here.

    I think some of the reason Crota built places dedicated to Oryx might have been for two reasons. Firstly to remind everyone he defeats and those in his brood that Oryx is the reason that he fights he fights to earn his fathers respect and so too should they. And secondly as a way for Oryx to keep in check the power of his son. Going by the reasons Toland states for Oryx invaiding the sol system its possible Oryx might have beleived that Crota could become more powerful than him or was close enough to power. And as such he stationed his own people to keep watch over his son. Its also possibly the reason he was able to respond so quickly to his death because he was given the information close to if not during the guardians successful assault on Crota.

    Hey Byf, I was wondering if you or anyone else has already made a video on the full Ahamkara hunts? I’ve always heard a lot (in terms of the bone that Eris carries around) but I haven’t seen a full start and trigger of the hunts to the end of the ahamkara species done. If there is a video, anyone got a link? Always been fascinated by them and the wiki is… not as useful as I’d want.

    I once wrote a more comedic take on several verses of the books of sorrow and I played Crota up as a teenager who wanted to show his dad he was worthy...but he was more horn then head and tended to act first and think later.

    Thats why I think Bungie not bringing back Oryx before FS, is a huge wasted oppertunity , if a ghost chose him, he would be forced to stare the truth in the eye, he was proven not to be the most powerful, but he lives , from the Travelers mercy , then revenge would start to be more important to him , especially for the lie he and his sisters was told at the begunning,and whom whispered it, he would be gunning for Megamind also Wouldn't that be a wierd message when you logged in "Travel To The Helm And Discuss The Plan With Oryx"

    I know this is totally random but I was thinking about one of Byf's other videos but I don't remember which it is. I wad wondering if there was any guardian in Destiny that made a feature in their suit that would incinerate or just blow up their body when they die. That way their ghost can revive them somewhere safe, unless I'm misunderstanding something here.
