DESTINATION KUNUNURRA: A week is NOT enough! | Oasis in the East Kimberley
“A good traveller has no fixed plans, and is not intent on arriving.” - Lao Tzu
Kununurra is the eastern gateway to the Kimberley and is a very long way from just about everywhere! On arrival into town, we paused for a mandatory Covid test, then headed straight to Ord Valley Delight (HipCamp) for a peaceful 3-night isolation stay.
Finally free to explore, we enjoyed losing ourselves in the vast, rugged red landscape, remarkable waterways and lush farmlands around Kununurra ... surprising & awe-inspiring!
It's easy to see why a week is not long enough with Kununurra being jam-packed with unique places to visit and things to see including -
Hoochery Distillery is the oldest operating legal still in WA
Kelly’s Knob with panoramic views over the town and surrounding ranges
Ivanhoe Crossing is an iconic causeway built over the mighty Ord River
Zebra Rock Gallery with its unique stone pieces
Lake Argyle is a vast freshwater lake nestled amongst the rugged billion-year-old landscape
Lake Kununurra a haven for swimmers, anglers, bird watchers and water sports enthusiasts alike
Mirima National Park is often described as the mini-Bungles
Ord River Diversion Dam designed to divert water from the Ord River onto the Ivanhoe Plain for irrigation
Argyle Homestead Museum originally built in 1895 by the Durack family
Two local secrets earmarked on WikiCamps (ssshhhh)
Time to hit the road!

Cheers Gary! 🙂
Thank You . Beautiful place .
Am I the only one who noticed the saloon doors squeaked at the exact same time, pitch and perfect 4th interval as the background guitar music at 02:23?! I'm simply in awe.

Just like Alice springs, don't leave your home or you Will BE SORRY.
need more development its not enough wa australian government not showing intrested here
The town of Kununurra is not safe. A lot of looters, broken glasses on the roads, people throwing rocks on cars, drunk, shouting /screaming, loud music the whole night, etc etc. entitled people could be lawless! If only, the local government have stricter rules and regulations in the Kimberley region, people will stay abit longer.
Great video except for the God awful music.
