Miltenberg is at the frontier of the old Roman Empire, and the frontier of the later Archbishopric of Mainz. It has a small castle, possibly Germany's oldest hotel, and definitely the world's smallest theatre.

I love your travelogues...so informative...
One concept that impressed me when I was last in Germany was the Theaterschiff. I went to the one in Lübeck (funnily enough I didn't realise it was an actual ship at the time I bought the tickets), but it seems that various other German cities have one as well. I don't know if that's a common thing in other parts of the world, but I'd certainly never heard of it before.

Aahh...Miltenberg! I remember it...vaguely. Vaguely because we went there on Klassenfahrt when I was 16 ie old enough to drink consequently we were drunk most of the time. Our teacher didn't help when he decided that we would walk to the franciscan monastery across the river one day where he bought us all a beer. On the way back even the female teacher was completely bladdered! :) Another youth hostel that vowed never again to let classes from Berlin stay there! But we couldn't have been all bad, one of my classmates is now chief of police (Leiter des Landeskriminalamts).

Up to and including Flensburg - there's a lot to see north of Hamburg with quite a bit of history as well.

Ich studiere in Würzburg und auf einer meiner ersten Veranstaltungen gab es danach kostenlosen Wein. Davor standen die Schilder 'Bacchus', 'Silvaner, 'Müller' und 'Rotwein'. Ich hätte mich wegschmeißen können. Typisch Würzburg, einfach eine Weißweinregion :D
Ich kann mich immer wieder über »Schenken/Schänken« (Kaffeeschenke) oder einen »Verleih« (Autoverleih) amüsieren. Die armen wissen oft gar nicht, daſs der Name des Betriebs eigentlich impliziert, daſs sie ihre Dienstleistungen etc. für »umsonst« anbieten. :D Und: In ganz Deutschland gibt es »Gästezimmer«, nur in Bayern heißt es »Fremdenzimmer«. ;)

Naja, Schänke (mit Ä) kommt von ausschänken und hat nichts mit schenken zu tun.

Außerdem schreiben die die Schenke in 2:21 eindeutig mit »e« und nicht mit »ä«. ;)

Es ist und bleibt immer wieder die Frage, nach dem eigentlichen Wortstamm, wenn in diesem eine Umlautung stattfindet; in diesem Fall »ausschenken« vs. »Ausschank«.
Seit zwei Wochen renn' ich beim Handy-Laden an der Werbung vorbei und denk' mir: »Die Stadt auf dem Plakat kennst Du doch von irgendwo her, oder?« Also: Ich selbst war noch nie in Miltenberg, aber…

Your still pictures are quite a bit shaky sometimes. How about using a tripod? If that is too complicated maybe a monopod (Einbein-Stativ)?

I wish I had the luxury of being able to take the time to film with a tripod. I do have a monopod, but it doesn't help much.

An expensive piece of kit that only works for certain types of shot.
Very interesting. But no mention of the fact that the bridge across the river was blown up by the SS in 1945, without warning, while people were crossing it.
