Amazing song & performances, but mad props to the audio engineer: two microphones in what looks to be a rickety wooden shed, and yet it sounds killer. With just two microphones, the position of each instrument/musician relative to the microphones had to be chosen carefully, which takes a sharp ear & a lot of talent. Everything sort of "melds" together to create a massive, magical sound that you can get totally lost in, just like a lot of old vintage recordings. But if you listen closely, each instrument is distinguishable & sits comfortably in its respective place in the mix. (Another good example of this: "Everyday" by Buddy Holly). For anyone interested in learning more about vintage music recording (and recording in general), Sound on Sound Magazine has an excellent half-hour video on KZread called "Recording '50s Style" which delves heavily into the intricacies of vintage recording techniques. Seriously, huge props to the audio engineer.
