Designing Sprinkler Layouts for Farm Bases in Rust!

Ойындар

It's been so long since I've made a growing video! But a common question for growing a hemp / berry farm is what sprinkler layout should be used. This video highlights the range of a sprinkler and layouts you can use to design a farm base that is comfortable and efficient.

    I've skipped over some nuance on water output, but when I said you need to 'keep an eye' on water levels if 1 sprinkler is supporting 4-5 planters, it's because continuous batches of heavy water consuming plants will slowly drain the planters. In most cases this isn't super relevant and may even help you keep a better water condition. If it weren't for that, I'd say 2x4 or 2x5 any day, but a 2x3 you don't need to think about water level at all. happy growing folks

    My last farm base had the 2x3 setup. I'm pretty sure if you got god clones, their water consumption is too low, and you'll end up overwatering, which also reduces efficiency. It is a tough subject because of the variables of plants, but I think some complexity adds variety to builds and makes it fun to experiment, so I don't mind not being perfect. Hooking timers up to your sprinklers seems tedious to me, but one day I'd like to learn so I can make the perfect farm with a timer set for the perfect time for my particular crops.

    And you can stack those layouts if you separate them with half-walls (Those half-walls are only needed to separate the squares with sprinklers from adjacent layouts)

    so would 1 lamp and 1 sprinkler be enough for a 2x2 with god clones of hemp? and is there differences in the water consumption of hemp and berries assume you use only god clones (GGGYYY)

    Has the 1 sprinkler covering 5 boxes been patched?

    NOTE: In the December 2023 update, the wasted water with decimals has reportedly been fixed, so other layouts can be equally water efficient! Notably this makes the 2x2 layout pretty good.

    What if you are farming on the snow and need heaters? Are 2 enough for a 2x3?

  • @sigbog

    @sigbog

    10 ай бұрын

    good question, a heater on a low wall in the center of a 2x3 will reach all 6 planters, and it can actually reach 1 more floor above so 12 total planters. in that respect that makes 2x3 even more compelling if youre in the snow. that same spot will not reach a 2x4 or 2x5 so you'd need 2 heaters then

  • @moodish

    @@sigbog I hadn't thought of placing it like that, a single heater for 12 planters sounds pretty good. I think the lights also go through one floor so you could probably do a 2x3x2 with 12 planters, 2 lights, 1 heater and 4 sprinklers? Edit: I just tested this and sometimes light seems to go through floors to the plants below and sometimes it doesn't. Also the heater gets the temperature for most plants to 100% (night time on the snow) but a few that are closest to the heater stay at ~80% for some reason.

    just a quick note about the basic berry, I used 3 sprinklers in the video, this was so you could plant a batch after setting up the sprinklers if you didnt want to manually fill the planters with a jug/boda bag, but you really only need 2

    What do you mean exactly by 1 sprinkler can sustain 5 planters max? If I put 1 sprinkler above 15 planters won't all planters get 1 ml of water? and by least efficiant you mean all planters get like 2,7 ml of water getting cut off at 2?

  • @sigbog

    @sigbog

    6 ай бұрын

    hey! so a few things here... first JUST this December they fixed the decimals getting cut off so you can use sprinklers on any layout with the same efficiency. But the reason I said 5 planters max is because a full batch of plants in those 5 planters will drain more water than the 1 sprinkler can sustain, so technically on 5 planters if youre running like 3-5 batches back-to-back youll need to manually fill them or take a break for them to refill. now 1 sprinkler on 4 planters is actually a pretty good spot, dont have to worry about water and it only needs 1 light.

    @@sigbog ah that makes sense. Thx for awnsering :). Gonna make a farm in a cave next force wipe and I can fit 20 planters pretty good in there. But I can only divide it in 2 sets of 10 planters when it comes to sprinklers.

    Anyone know the reason for planter boxes not taking and storing the water??

  • @sigbog

    @sigbog

    2 things come to mind, you might be putting salt water into the planters, or youre using a sprinkler that isnt sending enough water to actually emit any (EX: attached to a small water catcher). In both cases the sprinkler may appear to be working but not putting water into the planter

  • @FindNakor
    @FindNakor5 ай бұрын

    what about small planters?

  • @sigbog

    @sigbog

    5 ай бұрын

    the water is equally divided into all the planters the sprinkler touches regardless of size (I think, haven't recently confirmed). Since a recent update decimals don't truncate anymore so you don't need to worry too much about it though
