Love the idea of a more natural left side of your island! You could include a winding walking trail for your resort guests😁 plus I think that natural side would play to your strengths a lot!

I think with new leaf you need to think of it more as a game you check in on a little each day and play for the peacefulness of the daily tasks! I checked in on my town Cinnamon for the first time in a while and it was so peaceful doing my daily shopping, getting more fish, and interacting with the villagers more (they have much better conversation, and ask you for things more) :) And then with new horizons I decorate for like three hours at a time to finish my theme, it’s a different vibe for sure haha
