I love the idea of moving the cutlery drawer away from the cooktop. An idea may be having a cabinet next to the dishwasher that opens traditionally, but then has drawers inside (similar to your small appliance cabinet near your freezer). For example, the top drawer would be the cutlery and then the lower drawers could be everyday plates. Thus, allowing the person emptying the dishwasher easy access for unloading, creating that uniform look on the cabinet front, and providing space for whoever is at the cooktop. In terms of the outlets I know here in the states most people will mount them underneath the upper cabinet creating the clean look on the back splash. I don't know if that would be a possible option in the UK with building codes and all.

She said at the start she is not cooking much so that's a completely different need set from someone who heavily uses their kitchen.

When children growing up we entertained a lot and I cooked alot. And the thing I wished I could hide was the pots and pans on the cooktop as I was bringing as the hot food to the table. The sink area under a window is best so you can look outside while doing dishes and prepping food/cleaning vegetables. Important to run and empty dishwasher before company arrives. Mirror on backsplash is disaster for serious cooking, splash is great place for beautiful stone or tiles. Need a good washable rug under your feet when you are cooking and to catch spills and drops. Glass cooktop for heavily used kitchen is tricky. You need to clean it a lot to look decent.

With Sophie Patterson -- funds expended equal incredible elegance yet practicable living interiors. Too often I see, loads of money expended and good taste are sorely mutually exclusive.

I enjoyed this video! I was hoping that you would share the source of the tree stump table beside the chair.

Beautiful kitchen. While we're on the subject of wall sockets, have you any tips for concealing cable running across hardwood floors eg to table lamps?

Normally we cut a hole in the rug and run the cable under the rug. Often it’s a cable sized hole that only fits the wire so you never see it.

I loved this video I have learnt so much, I have a question as I am interested in the breakfast cupboard idea. How do you prevent damage to other shelves from the kettle and toaster? Thank you in advance x

You leave the same amount of space on that shelf as you would for wall cabinets so you can use it as a worktop- that gives enough space for heat to dissipate before reaching next shelf. I’d say minimum 50cm
