Or change the color scheme to whites or pastels. Drill some holes along the bottom edge and top edge, then cover the holes with screen wire.

Spring is fantastic in the mountains! And birds keeping their beaks open usually mean they are trying to cool off--in a very similar way to dogs when they pant from being too hot.

It wouldn't be difficult for you to add a little roof above the roofs of your birdhouses. With only an 8 cm rise it would effectively serve to keep the original roof of the birdhouse much cooler. Just a thought!

I found this in my livrary at home about why birds open their mouths: Birds have no sweat glands, so the primary way of dissipating excessive heat is by panting, just like a dog. If you see a bird during the hottest part of the day, it will likely have its mouth open. You may or not see that their throat is moving up and down, ridding heat from their body through the open bill.😅

The birdies with open mouth are cooling themselves. Probably it is too warm inside the nest, maybe they have less oxigen too. Nex time try to make some little holes for ventillating air.
