Y'know I was travelling with a guy from the dune sea once. He tried to sell me 'the scale of a mighty pope' that his granddad had slain. Apparently, the old man used to go around the desert at night dressed up as a cactus digging up dune moles and tying a collar made up of various intertwined posionous plants around their necks before letting them go. Before long, a pope terrorizing the local farms dropped dead, and now its skull is used as an impractical family table back home. I can't say I believed him, but it was an interesting story.

Ahh yes, the Bishop! An absolute unit and probably the best executed desert dragon I have ever seen! Despite how Strange it is, it is far from the weirdest of the codex beasts.

my loyal companion, cathedral the wailing bishop. we defeated a scarlet lasher together, and he has been my only companion for many long trips through mostly uninhabited lands.
Now this is a dragon I don't want to be spit on. Also I can't believe such a large airborial creature can subsit on such a small prey.

But the twist is that no matter how good your armor is, that Bishop can still glass you in a single spew, if you think you're hot stuff.
@JurassicJohn216

@@wen9157 Feel like one of the significantly greater concerns is the Gaping Kilnneck's 10,000 degree inferno blast. There could probably be some kind of armor or shields that the Bishop's molten glass would slide off of, but you can't block a wall of fire that can melt armor and flesh alike

You know, I have been following your project almost since the beginning (like, since your fourth or fifth post of it) and seeing it in a documentary-style presentation was always a dream of mine. Really happy that it's finally happening!
These designs are so creative I wish to learn to have this same level of creativity and skill some day.
Its crazy to see someone off the batt with so much potential and already such a high level of quality
Always a good day when a new video drops
Absolutely loved your work the moment I saw it from curious archive, I hope to see more of these in the future! your work would be so cool to have as a monster hunter-ish game aswell!
I once went on pilgrimage through the dune sea i had the rare chance to hear the mating song of two bishops luckily i was far enough from to not be seen but it was quite a beautiful song.
As a trader of dune sea... mph mph... collector who collects coals(we ussualy leave coal peaces in sands becouse it will be diamond like in month due to heat) we ussualy wear skins of dune moles and ships which we do not remove meat layer from skin becouse it will keep it cool when wear despite being stinky and uncomfortable, its only choice to trevel in that heat.
The tale of the Bishop rider makes me wonder if any species of dragons in the Codex can be tamed or, at the very least, have their trust be earned
Absolute Favorite, Lasher and Clatterjaw tie for second.
Man I love these comments, like the ones that are creating/extending lore to this world lol! Also great work sawyer as always!
This is great! New knowledge and art I haven't seen of the Bishop, all eloquently laid out! Love that you started a channel.

Excellent new video, the editing and pasting is really good and I also can see an improvement is sound quality. The art accompanied by your skills in story telling and different sound effects allowed me to be immersed by the video, which is extremely welcomed and make the overall experience a true pleasure; The only critique i would have is not because of something that is missing, but rather just something that i find would make the experience even better, and as i was saying, its to put more ambiance sounds and music to accompany the story telling, as I think it would make the experience even better. The dragon itself is absolutely fascinating, a massive inspiration for my world building projects and a impressive creature, with all the things they have to survive in such harsh conditions. Absolutely love the project 💙

Have you used vampire bats as a reference for terrestrial wing folding of the wailing bishop? Your creatures look very naturalistic and life-like (but at the same time alien) because they have subtle traits from real animals.
@sawyerleeart
5 ай бұрын
Good eye! I very much use the bat method of wing-folding. It just made sense to me for a dragon to do so- makes walking a much cleaner endeavor
AMAZING AS USUAL!!!
Great episode man! The bishop is one of my favourite dragons with their reflective scales and heyna like body posture. I particularly love their mating ritual and how they build obsidian "cathedrals" to house their eggs. One minor criticism though, 2 tons is extremely heavy for a flying animal. Quetzalcoatlus, one of the biggest pterosaurs, only weighed about 200 kg thanks to a structure of hollow bones and air sacs that reduce the weight of the animal. The wailing Bishop would of course be heavier due to tough scales and a much more massive body and tail but two tons might be a tad extreme.
@shoe644

Seems like they have massive wing muscles
@sawyerleeart
5 ай бұрын
They are indeed heavy for a flying beast! I let it be one of the realism boundaries I push however- as this same beast also melts and stores molten sands in its stomach- something no beast would realistically be able to do! It’s a push and pull with the mythical feats vs realism

Does an ancestor of this dragon have a second set of wings ? I asked because the long claw can be indicated as a old trait of an ancestor.
I would love to know more about the structures they build.
IN THE DESERT by Stephen Crane In the desert I saw a creature, naked, bestial, Who, squatting upon the ground, Held his heart in his hands, And ate of it. I said, “Is it good, friend?” “It is bitter-bitter,” he answered; “But I like it “Because it is bitter, “And because it is my heart.”
