I think it being a continuation rather then a spin off is the problem people have. Even though it gets considered as a spin off on the wiki, it's still another sequel. Since most people didn't want another film after Cameron's death, it makes sense people wouldn't be happy about it.

I think the main problem people have is it was heavily advertised as Descendants 4 for the longest time, and still is. If you google "Descendants 4" this film is what comes up. According to the wiki even though it says "spin off" it does still mention being the 4th film of the franchise. Most Disney shows when they do a spin off either go under a different name, or they change it up slightly. Like Jessie changed to Bunk'd and Suite Life of Zack and Cody changed to Suite Life On Deck. This is still just under Descendants 4. Which I feel (and maybe what others think) is almost like a betrayal. Let's not forget, after Cameron's death, nobody wanted to see the films continue without him. It would have been cool to see a true spin off, under a different name but in the same world. Maybe as a tv show or animated series, or standalone film but not really a sequel film. On a personal note, even though it does still upset me they took this route, the film does look really good and I will watch it because I am curious. However, it will not be "Descendants" in my book. If they do more films past this one, I may just call it the "Auradon" series.

I don't know how deja vu works but I sort of felt it Queen of hearts vs fairy godmother: " bippity boppity.." "no" Maleficent vs fairy godmother: "Bippity boppity.." "Boo" They both cut her of in different ways but still plan to take over the kingdom. Only one of them almost accomplished that (Maleficent time to take some notes).

Tbh mal was the one who defeated fairy godmother with the help of Evie, Jay and Carlos and Maleficent did make sure that fairy godmother’s powers were blocked as she froze all of them except for the VKs as far as I rememeber sry if I get anything wrong I’m a little rusty as I haven’t seen descendants since 1-2 years

The sets actually look awesome! I’m cautiously optimistic about this now. I used to hate the idea of this. Mainly because the OG cast is not all back as well as Kenny Ortega (the director of the other three films ) but at least from the TRAILER it looks like they are putting some care into this. (:
