Descendants of the creator of the Sengol explain its significance

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the new Parliament building on May 28. PM Modi will also install a ‘Sengol’, a historic sceptre next to Lok Sabha Speaker’s seat. This sceptre has its own historic significance as it depicts the transfer of power. Home Minister said that this ‘Sengol’ was accepted by the first PM Jawahar Lal Nehru on August 14, 1947. It was precisely the moment in which the power was transferred by the Britishers into the hands of Indians. As per the official document, Jawahar Lal Nehru was asked by Lord Mountbatten how the transfer of powers would be symbolized. Nehru consulted C Rajagopalachari, the last Governor General of India, who told him about the ceremony performed during Chola dynasty. In the ceremony, the transfer of power from one king to another was depicted by handing over of ‘Sengol’.
C Rajagopalachari was given a task by Jawahar Lal Nehru to arrange the sceptre- the ‘Sengol’. He then reached Thiruvaduthurai Atheenam in Tamil Nadu, “Vummidi Bangaru Chetty” jewellers manufactured the ‘Sengol’. The ‘Sengol’ is five-feet-long and has ‘Nandi’ bull on the top, which symbolises justice. Notably, a replica of the ‘Sengol’ is still kept by the descendants of Vummidi Bangaru.
This iconic ceremony was reported by local as well as the international media. Just after the ceremony, PM Nehru delivered his famous ‘Tryst with Destiny’ speech to the nation.

    It has been there from Mahabharata time, in every ancient kingdom. Tamil kings were one the original proud recipients of Sengol from their gurus. Cholas proclaimed themselves as the descendants of Lord Rama. End of the day, Bharath was a Dharmic United cultural entity. The divide and rule was brought on by the colonial British and we are still arguing endlessly based on their divisive imposition .

    'Sengol' does not represent 'transfer of power' as is shown by all media including ANI, it represents 'Power' & transfer or handing over of Sengol from a person to another person represents transfer or handing over of power. There's a slight difference in between both narratives.

  • @Sbeyonce-ur9zk

    @Sbeyonce-ur9zk

    It's being called transfer of power because power was transferred by mountbatton/English to Nehru/india. That's the political term that was used at that time. It's not saying that sengol represents that. Sengol was used at that time as a symbol or ceremony to represent transfer of power.

    BY accepting the Sengol, the King/Ruler promises that he will administer the country according to Dharma/Righteousness. In the British Museum there were the total Burmese Emperor's insignias, looted by Britain and now returned, and it has the gold Umbrella, the Throne, the Scepter ( Sengol), and the crown. All these were great symbols in the hindu tradition, still followed by the Kings of Thailand, amid recitations from the holy scriptures by Hindu priests, who have been in Thailand for more than a thousand years and crowning the kings according to Hindu tradition. But in our own country we discard our traditions and imitate western traditions and rituals. That is what the Congress has done to India.

    Even though the Muslims invaded and conquered the whole of India, the Islamic forces could not even approach Tamil Nadu, ButThey could not conquer only Tamil Nadu till the end. The Tamil kings were able to win and protect them until the British. Know the example of only one king whose name is "Manuneedji Cholan", where the rule of justice of the Tamil kings was infallible! "For the crime of unknowingly crushing a calf under a chariot, that king killed his only son on the same chariot! Holding this "Sengoll" in hand, they made the most honest and power full government! " everybody can search in Google. A statue of him has been placed in the Madras High Court Entrance in his memory! The Tamil kings and especially the Chola kings were the ones who always gave justice to anyone, so when we place the scepter they used at the center of this country, we believe that justice will be given to all the people without fail. Narendra Modi seems to have done this🙏👍.

    Sengol is a representation of justice, freedom, duty, and dharma and giving power to those who rule to uphold those values. It is NOT a representation of a king or monarch but that which reminds the ruler and the govering bodies to think and act for the benefit of the people and not to resort to corruption due to power. Let the Sengol keep reminding our leaders of dharma at all times.

Some how the researchers as well VBJ not disclosing the great souls who made this happen. Either not available or no efforts put in. It's just 75 years old info. The Sengol is associated with the divine right theory of power and sovereignty, and such a theory has been long rejected and buried in democratic India. In Madurai’s Meenakshi temple, an oil painting shows the Goddess Meenakshi presenting a sengol to the king of Madurai, and thereby conveying the message that the king would rule in Her name and do justice to his subjects. There is a mural in the 17th-century Ramalinga Vilasam Palace of Ramanathapuram, where the Goddess Rajarajeshwari is shown handing over the sengol to the king (the sethupathi, who basically ruled Ramanathapuram under the suzerainty of the rulers of Madurai). The essence of it was that the king derived power not from the people, but from the Goddess. It depicted nothing but the divine right of kingship and firmly symbolised that all power, authority and sovereignty flowed from the Goddess. As in real life, a Goddess could not hand over the Sengol, so the brahmin priest in the ruler’s court handed it over to him.

    Sir, you have well said and strongly support your version and i too condemn it , because a true Christian will not commit such sins, as the LORD Jesus Christ said, to forgive and sin no more, and there should be no partiality, since we all are the people of God. But later during ancient days people were divided to have respective religions to follow their traditions, rituals and culture, and therefore, God, through our LORD Jesus Christ, has said, " love our neighbours as ourselves ", else the God will never forgive us. Therefore, all those people though they are recognised as Christians committing such atrocities are not true Christians, as they are living without Christ, hence after death anyone committing such atrocity have to stand before God's judgement and face severe torments in hell where the insects will not die, neither the fire quenches. 🙏🏿

    What is Sengol? Golden Walking Stick Gifted to former PM Jawahar Lal Nehru. This is as per the description attached to a piece of undistinguished artefact kept in a museum. Where was it found? Safely preseved in the govt museum called Anand Bhavan in U.P. state. So much for the honour and dignity accorded to an iconic symbol of historic significance bearing witness to the ceremonial handing over of power from the British Raj to India marking the moment of Indian Independence which was the culmination of more than 2 centuries of freedom struggle and the sacrifice of millions of Indians who were united with a single purpose of liberating their motherland after centuries of slavery and deprivation under foreign rule. Dharmo Rakshati Rakshatah! 🙏 Satyamev Jayate!! 🪷 Jai Hind!!! 🇮🇳🫡
