No place is perfect. Either high cost of living, high property taxes, crime, bad weather, natural disasters such as flooding, wild fires, tornadoes, hurricanes....

Being far from mountains and beaches also means far from tourists, which is its own kind of paradise. 😉

I just went there for the first time this August and LOVED it. It was such an unexpected pleasure.

Des Moines has an Iowa Machine Shed restaurant. No place that has that kind of food is bad.

I just looked that up. Looks like unpretentious and good quality food. If I ever go visit Iowa again, I want to try one.
