Just the fact that the reporter actually followed up with a tough question and Coleman answered him politely.
This quote needs to be preserved in the National Archives
This was the year he was on that sports illustrated cover with the word "waaaaaaaaah!" under it 😁
Sticking up for his boy 💯

That's how you engage with the media in disagreement, instead of hiding behind cliche responses or shutting down from answering questions all together. Stand your grown but remain civil.
One of the all time great quotes of all times!

@@safeandeffectivelolnot at all. It explains why the media buried him for his entire career and lazy fans bought the narrative though. Derrick didn’t go along with trashing Kenny the way they wanted him to. Good. That’s integrity. Had zero to do with his career - injuries and health issues held him back. Was still a great player his first 5 years, and then a solid one when healthy after that.

@@DJR33333 The media didn't cause him to be a barely above average player. His highest avg was 20.7 ppg and 11.3 rpg.

@@safeandeffectivelol He made “Dream Team 2”. He was far better than “barely above average” at his peak. Injuries wrecked him. When it happened to Penny Hardaway, Grant Hill, Brandon Roy, it was a sad story. Some seem to almost celebrate that it happened to Coleman. Narratives.

Yup. Showing the world that he's spoiled, lazy, and a malcontent. Definitely deserves his nickname.

@elmztana1201 that's not why people considered him that. What are you talking avout ? I was a huge fan of Coleman personally. An all time fave for me
coleman was right, there shouldnt be a difference for a star player missing a practice and regular player does.

Um, yes there should, when one of them just disappear without notification, while the other one has a legitimate reason to skip practice. I remember this, fringe players don't just disappear that way, their job is on the line! You honestly don't understand this!? 🤡

Well.... he 100% should've been at least!! I dont think he ever reached his full potential besides for maybe a two yr stretch. He was my favorite player growing up and I fully believed not only could he have been the Nets best PF but the best PF in the entire league. He was an amazing player.

Coleman was a much better player than Martin. And I liked Martin, but their skill set wasn't even very close. Coleman had a far superior overall skill set

I was born in Seattle in 1973, where I grew up. Sonics and Blazers fan. Japanese-American and male. Derrick Coleman was linked to BOTH of my teams, in trade rumors. "Well, Hoop De Damn Do," LOL!
As my band's drummer would say, "That was boss!" DC owned that "interview"

The Team concept to being As One all have to be treat with the same regard to their impact on the collective of the team. Do Derrick is right in that light. Labels (Franchise Player, face of The Team, etc.) do come with a responsibility, but DCs own admission after he retired, he lacked the guidance of Veteran Player (Like Drose is gonna be in Memphis) who could have assist him to show the ropes of being The Man on the Team,

On AITA grading, I would give this ESH. Not the right answer from Coleman but the press was obviously trying to make a big deal out of this to sell papers and fill air time.
Sadly sums his career and attitude in a few seconds. Colossal waste of talent
