Dermatologists battle online "anti-sunscreen movement" spreading misinformation, health risks
An anti-sunscreen movement is heating up online this summer, spreading misinformation that could lead to potentially dangerous behavior. Dermatologists are taking to social media to stop the misinformation.

This, but also there are now a ton of zinc oxide sunscreens that are super effective (personally I find them more effective) and they basically just sit on your skin without making your skin absorb a bunch of chemicals. So you can have those concerns but still use sunscreen. Yea, you're gonna have white marks all over your body because of that mechanism. But that's a lot better than having scars from surgery for skin cancer on your body.
The problem is people think they can google a subject, read a few unverified online posts/watch a few videos and then think they're an expert. This is especially true of many of these 'influencers'.

If i don't wear sunscreen when i go to the beach, i would be in a world of hurt like you wouldn't believe. The stuff works, and it saves lives. The amount of damage that can be done in just a few hours is incredible. I'm 47, and i have great skin...cant say the same for those that soak up the sun.

Try talking to him about zinc oxide sunscreens. They're sold by a bunch of major brands, they're a bit more expensive but it basically stays on top of your skin as a sort of physical barrier instead of absorbing into your skin. I started using it 3 or 4 years ago because I have awful eczema and regular sunscreen made it worse, the zinc oxide doesn't mess with my skin and in my experience actually works better. Maybe look up some studies and send them to your ex.

Science is a PUNCHLINE for most people. Their megalomaniacal arrogance about their beliefs, feelings, and illogical assumptions are mind-numbingly obtuse... but it doesn't matter. If person X believes that the planet is flat, vaccines are microchips, Chump won, Bankman-Fraud was framed, Aleggz Jonez was a saint, and Theranos chick was a victim, THEN THOSE ARE TRUE. End of story, no exceptions, no apologies. That's how most people function; if they *believe* in something, then that's the end of it. Facts are irrelevant.
My favorite is when people say they don’t tan with sunscreen.
I am a stage 4 malignant melanoma cancer survivor.. I stay out of the Sun.. I go out early in the morning and after the sun sets or is setting.. I am living in the Philippines and my Filipino wife does not like this sun either and she tans beautifully.. we swim in our subdivision pool most every night for fun and exercise..we just rearranged our lives so we will stay out of the Sun..
One of my close friends died of Stage 4 Melanoma 3 years ago. Not using sunscreen does cause Melanoma, among other skin cancers.
Ignorance isn't bliss
I didn’t start using it until 30 and I have the sun spots to go with it…

This is what happens when you convince people that elitism is bad, and that you can't trust people who can speak on topics with any kind of authority.
When they hit 50 and look in the mirror, they will feel different about sunscreen.
I am pro sunscreen, but a number of sunscreens that were tested a couple years ago were found to contain benzene by accident. Benzene is a cancer-causing chemical, and those products were recalled. I still wear sunscreen but it does make you think twice what could be in some of them if the manufacturer isn't testing them completely.
Some sunscreens are really not safe if you're pregnant or an infant. They also massacred the ocean reefs or something. No doubt you'll be better off using sunscreen when your likely to get sunburned, but no way should you wear it on a cloudy winter day in the office (which is advised).
Better have good insurance.
Last year I couldn’t scroll through anything online without seeing someone’s skincare routine with six different types of SPF. Suddenly the trend is now sunscreen is toxic sunscreen causes cancer yadayada. Misinformation spreads quickly
Let them know that they will look like a wet leather purse in their 40s if they keep on. I’m 45 and look like I’m 45 because I had no choice but to stay out of the sun.
In order to sell snake oil, you first gotta create a problem to solve
I usually don't wear cosmetic but having your skin burnt under the strong sunlights nonchalant is harmful behavior. Avoiding direct sunlight is essential to everyone nowadays. But it gives me strange feelings on reminiscence of that we used to be alright under the strong summer sunlight for day long working hard in the fields when the ozone layers wasn't broken. I don't know nowadays if skin cancer stems from broken ozone layer, but we were okay with the burning sun and sweltering weather in hot summer. Though farmers were getting aged due to the strong sunlights but nobody suffered skin cancer as of those days. Is it an ultra violet ray to cause the skin cancer? Or is it the prolonged age of man to suffer skin cancer because of their longer lifespan with lots of cronical diseases?
Need to start regulating these influencers. Many claim to be doctors.

Wear protective clothing. Stay in the shade. Carry a sun umbrella. There are many ways to block sun without chemicals.
Lotion, makeup, and everything is harmfull.
To be fair, I just don't apply extra anything (including sunscreen) to my skin, as it's too sensitive to use such products on, i am highly allergic to most sunscreens and the all-natural stuff looks... wrong on me. i prefer to stand in the shade to keep my skin safe.
I can't use it because something in it makes me have an allergic reaction. It's hard to know what to do about it. And yes, I've tried everything. The only thing that seems to work is aloe vera. How come no one addresses this issue?
If you're worried about chemicals interacting with your skin or if you have sensitive skin, you can use sunscreen that is zinc oxide. Most major sunscreen companies make that. I use normal sunscreen on my face every day (unless I'm staying home all day) but not my arms and legs because they react to basically everything. Zinc oxide takes for-freaking-ever to put on and it leaves white marks on your skin but that's because it's not absorbed, it physically sits on your skin and blocks UVA/UVB rays. Because of that, it is much less likely to irritate your skin and I'm saying this as a person with eczema who can't even take a hot bath without my skin breaking out. That stuff doesn't irritate my skin at all. Basically, there is an option other than regular sunscreen that is proven to work without having a dozen different foreign chemicals getting into your skin, if that's something that concerns you. I get compliments on my clear skin all the time and every single time I say "use sunscreen every day and don't smoke cigarettes!" You're not safe from skin cancer and premature aging just because you "tan, not burn."
condems sunscreen, while applying other skincare product with who knows what else

These dermatologists a bit reckless … perhaps suggest a few sunscreens w cleaner ingredients (especially for people with sensitive constitutions/ mast cell activation, multiple chemical sensitivity etc) as some of the traditional sunscreens can make people feel really sick compared to urban air as the first suggested
People need to learn, and remember one simple thing when they are on social media: Just because someone tells you that you've been lied to, DOESN'T mean THEY are telling you the truth! Yeah the video makes it also seem like the sunscreens entering your blood is a myth too, but it's completely true.
There is new data showing that not only is sunscreen necessary and protective, but you do need to WASH IT OFF. Sunscreeens work by absorbing free-radical damage caused by UV within sunlight. Those compounds have high molar absorptivity, and stabilize free radicals within the sunscreen. These reactions are random, and can cause the formation of materials you don't want on your skin. Cancer causing? Probably not, but wash it off and apply new sunscreen when necessary.
At the end of the day, people will hold their beliefs. It's fine to question something like putting certain chemicals onto your skin or into your body. What people put on their skin or don't put on their skin, is their business. I personally always wear sunscreen, especially as someone with rosacea and with a real need to protect my skin. But I also do that with clothing and wearing hats when it's very hot outside. I can't speak for others though and again, it's not my business. All these health scares are annoying and the holier than thou attitude in the comments. You can also die easily from driving your car every day, yet no one freaks out about that. Just live your life, and let others do the same. We'll all die one day anyway, whether it's cancer or something else that takes you out. No one escapes death.
Oh well, more patients for the dermatologist when they need to be treated for skin cancer.
Here we go

Sunscreens have been proven on several occasions to contain dangerous chemicals, and you do absorb them through your skin. That doesn't mean you can't get too much sun exposure though, and you should be taking steps to minimize your risks. But blindly backing sunscreens is foolish, especially when there is clinically-proven reasoning to reduce or end your exposure to them.

Rom 10:9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. Corinthians 15:3-4 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures: Ephesians 2:8-9 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. ,
