If you watch the making g of Evisceration plague produced by Erik Rutan at Mana recording studios, he mentions that the standard procedure for recording is, to lay down scratch guitars, get the drums in time, nice and clean, then do the guitar tracks clean after the drums are laid out, so anyone saying Erik's playing is sloopy just doesn't understand the process behind d recording which can be hectic and daunting, Hate Eternal Rule, always in my good books no matter what! Top shelf death metal which is an acquired taste!

I swear to god, you can set a pacemaker to Derek’s drumming, it is so precise.

Well it's actually pretty slow, so it's normal that he is at least precise. Song at 240, 250 bpm could sound fast maybe 20 years ago..

Couple things here with your response 1. At what point did I mention speed? I’m talking about precision and consistency with minimal digital intervention, which btw can’t be said for most of the younger drummers today. 2. How old are you and do you listen to deathmetal pre 2015? I, Monarch, was released in June 2005, which would make this close to 18 years old, 2 years shy of 20 years ago. 3. Have you ever listened to this album in its entirety? If you haven’t, I highly recommend giving it a proper listen. Songs like Plague of Humanity and It Is Our Will are insane, especially when you take into account that Derek did most of those tracks in one take. The man was a machine.

@@KevonLovelace How old am I? are you switching the subject on me already?..however..I'm pretty old..and wheater I'm old or young Derek Roddy still is a slow drummer. I know you were not talking about speed, you were talking about precision. But precision is easy to get right when you are slow like roddy. That guy has been in """"extreme"""" metal scene for so long..and yet he struggles around the same slow ass beat..230-240-250....c'mon..

@@cosimofusi2562 Thinking that 250 is slow is the exact reason why a lot of modern extreme metal has lost its soul. When your songs require 300 bpm bass drum rolls (which will just sound like a long fart btw), you're gonna be stuck with drummers that focus only on that one thing: speed. Groove, dynamics, impact are out of the window. Oh, and you're gonna need a shit ton of studio editing too, so say goodbye to the natural drum tone. I hope you eventually shift your focus from pure technicality to what the music actually conveys and stop that mental masturbation over bpm. If you can't appreciate the playing of drummers like Roddy or Rudinger just because they aren't the fastest I pity you.

Regarding the guitar - it's entirely possible that it was a guide track for recording drums, so it doesn't necessarily need to be 100% on point

@thispagesux I disagree. It´s a fucking heavy riff and live it feels like being punched in the face with Eric´s brutal strumming.

  • @clinder27

eh... I disagree sir. His riffs are not easy to play. I've seen his live performances as well as studio recordings - he slays. The riffs/notes he plays are different than most metal bands. This not only makes him unique but very technically skilled. Show me a video where he is sloppy or out of time.

Agreed, but i think he does that stuff on purpose to sound "chaotic". That's what Hate Eternal try to do with all their songs, but it only works half the time. The other half make the songs sound horrible.
