As far as I know, she had no formal training in Economics, she was never a business owner or entrepreneur of any significance, yet she has the most beautiful and subtle understanding of how economies function and how all the components interact. This example is similar to many others and is to me the evidence of her genius.

thats because people who are "in the field" are blinded by their own relative small world to see the whole. people who understand the theory and dont just go by arbitrary historic measurements or what applies to their unique situation tend to be better at this.

I disagree, Anti trust laws exist to combat cartels, and price controlling by few of the supply to the masses. In modern economy it is easier to see it's effects and need of Anti trust laws is vastly mandated

She is too correct, just brilliant, but I am afraid logic is no longer the control element.

Ayn Rand did a great job of identify the source of the problem which is BIG Government but didn't do enough of a good job of emphasizing how bad it really is. If only she truly showed the extent to how bad government be she'd have a lot more followers.

She dramatized it amazingly in the book. You can't do more then that in emphasizing how bad government affects society, can't show it clearer. I think she did enough.

Ayn Rand articulated her viewpoints in her novels, including Atlas Shrugged. The speech and the trial chapters are a 3+ hour read in themselves. Capitalism, the unknown ideal is another book she wrote. Nonfiction. Rand was not an economist, she was a novelist and philosopher. Who discovered or correlated many truths and truisms into a coherent logical structure. That philosophical system is explained and argued quite convincingly by Dr. Leonard Peikhoff in his book on "Objectivism". Milton Friedman was the most articulate in conveying the power of a free market. There is a PBS series on here with his presentation. Economists consider his explanation too simple and demand mathematical modes to show proof. But he made a complex topic as simple as can be, and shows he was a true expert. Conservatives and Libertarians seem to think Economics will solve everything. But it wont. The reason we have the global market today as it is, is due to PHILOSOPHY. And you have to change how people think in order to sway peoples opinions toward facts and logic. But the Republicans have been infiltrated by Christians who despise facts and logic, and have set out to destroy the concept of life itself. In their recent attack on the freedom of women to live their life unshackled by societies legal requirement for them to be livestock.

@@TheJustinJyou might be the smartest guy on KZread! -- it's almost eerie to read that Milton Friedman had a segment on PBS when you think about nowadays where he'd quickly get like a three hundred yards ban around any of their broadcasting buildings for not being left enough. -- you didn't fully think through the last part you said, though. a brain as organized and reasoned as yours must be better able to understand that many reasonable arguments can be made against what you said. I can't write them all here, because KZread would surely delete my comment. but aside fifty others, this is just way too short-sighted and too much living in the moment to actively go against nature and to think women can do "better" than secure the future of human's existence by attending to more important stuff than having and rearing kids. you sound surprised that this happened; well, I'm not. if you allow feminism but also are a mathematician and read statistics, then you'll see that this is an ever self-reducing portion of our population and therefore no wonder that those ideas will doom eventually with them when there's no one to pass them on and most people that exist do this because of more traditionally orientated families (on average; because who's more children isn't very difficult to see.) and this is why as such an highly intelligent person, you shouldn't be all that surprised like you acted. -- libertarianism is essentially conservatism without the moral "bindings." I fully understand how convincing this must be for young people (I was one myself), but despite this very questionable origin, conservative moral values didn't spring into existence on a whim but established over a long period often for very good reasons and most crucially, they evidentially work.
