If I'm not mistaken, this same derecho sped across the northeast and hit me late that evening in Norfolk, Virginia. I'd heard news reports in advance of it and I went outside just before the storm arrived to experience a bit of it. I remember being out for a couple minutes with nothing more than light breezes when suddenly I got hit by this powerful gust of wind that I'd estimate to be at least 45 mph. I took that as my cue to get back inside and moments later, all hell broke loose outside.

I know many, many cities and rural areas were hit hard with this DamnStorm. But, I have to tell you, with a 20 minute notice in Cedar Rapids, IA that the thunderstorm was now producing wind gusts in excess of 100mph. The storm was coming at 90mph. It hit at 12:24. It killed squirrels and birds in the first 10 minutes. The radar showed a HOOK as it approached Cedar Rapids. My weather station outdoor unit disintegrated. The base monitor showed rain was 3.2 inches in 24 minutes. When the unit exploded outside, the wind gauge said 113 mph. The high gust was 128mph. That was one EVIL STORM.

The date at the beginning is off by one day. It was actually June 29, not the 28th. This storm system sucked. It hit us here in Baltimore at 11:30 that night and immediately knocked out power for several days (I was one of the lucky ones, because some people were without power for 10 days), and it was during an extremely hot summer when temps were well over 100 degrees every day. So everyone roasted for days without A/C. It particularly annoyed me because I just started my vacation with a week off after getting off from work Friday afternoon. So I had to put up with no power and no A/C for 3 days of the beginning of my time off. I actually went to work during that weekend, where the power was still on, just to sleep in the office with A/C. It sucked!

We had a week ago a windstorm with gusts up to 90 mph in belguim and 122 mph in the UK the damage from the storm was about 1 900 000 000 dollars
I remember this storm! It came east to Delaware and it hit at midnight. Can’t believe it’s been a decade. I was 9 when it happened

I remember last year where I live (southeast AZ) we had a massive derecho and the winds reached a maximum of 85 MPH, it sounded like someone had a power washer on the outside of the house and it was at 9:00 at night, so that made it ridiculously scary for me.

Maybe a plaque recognizing its strength. That is a young tree, they do much better in wind storms. We get bad wind storms in the winter but because all the leafs are gone its not so bad on the tree. -20 windchill though even with the right clothing sucks.
It sucked!
Thank you for the comment mooncat! For me as a hobby meteorologist this was the worst I have ever "recorded".
