    Many of you have pointed out that Derby's prosthetics seem too low. We started this way to give him a chance to get used to his new legs. But with 3D printing it's easy to iterate design, so he is being fitted with progressively longer legs until he reaches his optimal height. Work is ongoing and we are about to 3D print the 4th version of his prosthetics.

    Yeah, the current height seems bad for his vertebrae as it makes his backbone lying in improper position and I'm really worried about that. So, I thought of complaining about it as well. Knowing that he has to adjust to it, but to run and walk a long way in that angle isn't good for his bones, hope you will adjust it soon.

    My dog has been tortured on the streets as a puppy and the part of his front leg been cut off. We took him home from the vet which saved his life when he was 6 month. We're keep trying to help him by putting a special shoes and bandaging his leg for every walk but it's not a perfect solution cause he's getting bigger and keep traumatizing his leg by running so there're still some blood after almost every walk. Also his spine is also bothering him cause one leg is shorter than another. This story give me hope that i can actually make much more for him in the near future. I just wish we can find something like that in Russia cause it's so freaking expensive to take him abroad....

    Check Mate It must be hard to read and accurately understand everything when you are merely looking for a reason to express your gimmicky little name there. A quick reread of the sentence would probably have allowed even your barely functioning brain cells to comprehend she was referring to the PEOPLE who dumped the dog at the shelter in the first place due to Derby's handicaps and not the DOG in this case, even though the DOG was the one affected most by this. I read it to understand the OP meant nothing more than the people who clean up others' messes are the ones making the world a better place. Oh, and not to be a stickler for semantics here, but in the case of your username, checkmate is one word. So... Checkmate.

    I can only assume (based on extensive experience) that people who disliked this video are those assholes who would say "You worry about a stupid dog, while there are children starving out there" - people who never in their entire lives moved their fat asses from their chairs to do anything for anyone or anything around them, but are very good at organising other people's priorities and feel very entitled to enforce their opinion upon the world they are not even a part of. You know the type.

    I don't get how people could not like this story. These are cold, heartless people with no empathy for man's best friend in need. I am sooo, glad that 3D Systems stepped up thanks to Tara Andersons caring. H/T to Sherry & Dom Portanova for being able to care so much for a dog that would have otherwise become a statistic. I know this isn't the only dog ever to be in this situation. I'm sure there are hundreds, if not thousands, just like him. But, it is heartwarming nonetheless.

    I feel like if he got the bottom half of his front legs cut off and got new prosthetics, in the correct lenght this time, it would probably be easier for him to run more upright in a more correct position for him. Also I don't think it's a good idea to let him run that far every day with the posture he has now. He might get back problems later on. Make longer prosthetics maybe with a spring in them to compensate for the missing joints.

    Hes lucky he got prosthetics at all. He will be fine. Longer prosthetics might actually hurt him since his body was already so low to the ground. A mid point is needed and later on they "might" move to a high point.It costs alot of money to get them and most disabled dogs have wheel chairs compared to this.

    Hello 3D Systems! I'm a vet from Portugal and we have a dog (Pincher) than weighs 0.7Kg and has a very similar malformation as Derby. We only have access here in Portugal to wheel chairs but because of his small weight and also because he can move both limbs the chair is not really a good option. We found here where we can print in 3D but no one that can help us with the design. Can you help us? I have videos and measurements of Figo (it's his name). Hope you can help us (he has been adopted from our clinic and we really want him to have a healthy life for as long as he can and for that we have to help his forelimbs to preserve his spine and hindlimb). Sorry for such a long comment and god bless you for helping Derby.

    Thank U for helping this lovable dog. You've improved his life 1,000,000X. But just in case of emergency - If he ever falls into water, he won't be able to doggie paddle, would he? Would the hollow part serve as scoops? If not, maybe he'll need a flotation vest and/or flotation bubbles inside the prosthetic.

    Jeffrey Tong he was first deformed and probably/ maybe can't doggie paddle?either way, you raised a good point out of curiosity I hope the makers of the prosthetics look into this, or perhaps they did in the beginning.

    This is just so amazing. God bless all of you. The dog's mobility went from almost non-existent to all it was meant to be... and that all thanks to people that cared... and, of course, to 3D printing! That's precisely why I haven't given up on my 3D printing stocks yet despite the losses I've had w/ it. Big thank you to you for your kindness, and to all the good people that were involved in helping that awesome animal. He looked happy without it but now he looks thrilled to be able to sprint like a marathoner along w/ his loving humans.

    This is great. I wonder why the prosthetics are made so that the dog's front end is so low to the ground. Looks like they could have made his pros legs as long as the back. Seems like he will develop back issues.

  • @3butalcomp3

    @3butalcomp3

    9 жыл бұрын

    Xena Jada he will develope back issues but without the prosthetics his outcome is obvious. Imsure that if the prosthetics were longer the angle of his back will be opposite of how he has grown. That will hurt and change a little over time- but he has his permanent skeletal shape. The prosthetics are a gift that weren'tjust thrown on, he's been measured in different ways to account for stress and as his shape and stance changes his gift will be changed to accomadate. This is awesome and after seeing this, lets just say I'll never forget it.

    Dong Master hie, never to late for this topic. I have thought about the entire issue with the lengthening of the prosthetics. I don't recall how long doggie has been wearing them, and that makes a difference but if they (gradually increase the length) obviously it will be so much easier, and less painful. The pain was what I was concerned with actually, because he will adapt either way. If they went too long, - too soon for him. The professionals handling it know this of course, and my prayers are for the very best. I am an avid animal lover. Thanks for the return comment- peace...

    I must say what an inspiring tale. As a moderator over at /r/dungeonsanddragons, I too create tales of fiction full of intriguing qualities. Let me share a snippet with you: "Neria Zhantos, Altmer Battle Mage, has come across a stranger while clearing out bandits from Helgen. It becomes quickly apparent that he is not of Tamriel. Who is this strange wanderer? What mysterious force has seen him taken from his home world and thrown into Nirn? Whatever the answers, one thing is certain. He has seen more than she could ever imagine." As you can see, I am both a master wordsmith and a master blacksmith. If you require said tale to be provided in written form, I'd be happy to provide my services in exchange for one pound of Platinum. Yours in friendship. It said in the video that they started him out lower so it was not a drastic change at first. With this technology they can increase the height s the dog adjusts by making the change on the computer and "printing" a new set to increase the height.

    These prosthetics are amazing! I can't believe how well the dog takes to them! Beautiful! The only problem is that I refuse to buy the bullsh$% lies about them being made by an intelligent designer or creator. An intelligent designer or creator is not necessary for those prosthetics. Those prosthetics arose through the nature selecting arbitrary self-organized molecules to randomly form a number of different polymers and plastics. The prosthetics only appear to be perfectly fit in form and function to the dog but this is only an illusion. Natural selection creates that illusion. The existence of gravity and the laws of science are sufficient to explain how those prosthetics came about. No designers are necessary. In fact, invoking a designer or intelligent designer to explain the origin of these dog prosthetics would require blind faith and a rejection of science. Someone who invoked a designer/creator for these dog prosthetics are doing so strictly out of a fear of dying. Such people would be irrational and have no evidence on which to base their claims. All we need to explain the dog prosthetics appearing on their own and without the help or intervention by an intelligent designer/creator is to show the progression of the fossil record of that 3-D printer. I can show you a number of printers, starting with early primitive printers and clearly showing the addition of features, traits, and increased efficiency and capability leading up to the current 3-D printer. So, I have DEBUNKED the notion in this video that these dog prosthetics were made by an intelligent designer/creator. As proof, I have presented my mechanism and examples of printers going from basic to advanced showing the natural procession of evolution of printers. I have shown how invoking an intelligent designer/creator is superstitious, irrational, unscientific, foolish, and based in fearmongering. The people who claim that a designer/creator is responsible for these dog prosthetics need to be removed from society. They are the sole source of all the problems in this world. Such people prevent science from being done and try to replace REAL SCIENCE with their primitive notions of creators and designers.

  • @dsbiddle

    @dsbiddle

    9 жыл бұрын

    The Channel of Stuff No, I am not mentally challenged. No creator or designer is needed for that dog's prosthetics. We do not need to invoke a creator or designer. That dog's prosthetics evolved naturally and I have printers showing the natural gradual evolution from simple to the complex 3D printer. If you claim that this dog's prosthetics needed a designer or creator, you are pathetic and reject all science.

I bet he thinks he was being clever, too.

    Totally alpha. Gentlemen observe the quality workshop these fine men possess around the 1:04 mark. One of the least talked about points of the red pill is the emphasis on self-improvement and the ability to make an impact on the world. Creating, building, designing, achieving that status as a real *producer*, powered by your innate masculine desires for the female reward. I guarantee by building those prosthetics for that dog these gentlemen enjoy a higher status in their community as part of becoming truly alpha is to be able to help those around you in ways betas cannot even dream of. Remember, betas are too busy tipping fedoras to Berta Lovejoy or wiping orange dorito sweat from between their manboobs after hours of Call of Duty and sniffing their own farts; not expanding their influence.
