Depression Sandwich - Family Recipe

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Backstory:
My grandmother used to make us these split and griddled hot dog sandwiches with bacon, yellow mustard, and American cheese on a potato roll. She grew up eating them during the Great Depression. All of these things were cheap and available at the time. They are also absolutely delicious. I made a drunk snack version one night when I didn't have bacon or American cheese so I swapped in pork cracklins and pepper jack. This version is also fantastic.
Ingredients:
- bacon
- hotdogs
- potato slider rolls
- American cheese
- yellow mustard
- dijon mustard
- pork cracklins

As much as I like seeing chefs cook with fancy top quality ingredients, I didn't realize how hungry (pun intended) I was for a chef channel that uses ingredients that I have access to.

Thank you! Sometimes I do fancy stuff but I think in general I try to keep it approachable.

There's something so fascinating about recipes that come from necessity.

I agree. I love the Tasting History with Max Miller channel. A lot of those historical foods he cooks have that thread of necessity in them.
