Sean, I just wanted to thank you so much for all the videos, and your book! If it weren't for you i would still be stagnating in a depersonalized state instead of going out proving to my brain that this feeling has no bearing on my actions in the real world.

TTV YouMadRight sorry bro just read this. And yes I did and kinda still do. I would say right now I’m about 70% recovered and it feels so good. Whenever I write this comment, I was probably 10% recovered. I promise you it gets better. The main key is understanding what you have, and accepting it. Also realize that something caused this, and it’s not random. Personally for me it was weed. I thought I was going to die from a bad trip. I felt fine the days after, but a month after I had a random anxiety feeling outta nowhere, and then I diagnosed myself with Depersonalization. So make sure you identify what caused the DP, because that’s a main key factor. Once you understand, and accept you have it, then you will start to recover. Trust me, any bad thoughts are COMPLETELY NORMAL. You’re not going crazy, the anxiety is just making you think weird. Update me on how you feel bro!

I had it so bad at one point that my intrusive thoughts were that I was going to turn into a crazy murderer. I’d look at a butter knife and get an image of something awful happening. It sounds absolutely ridiculous, but the fear was real. At first it’s completely dreadful and terrifying. Full blown adrenaline and panic. Mental images of gore and scenarios. All while deep inside I knew it was irrational. ...I finally challenged my mind. I was like “prove it asshole, make me do something”. It stopped. I figured out that it’s fear that’s driving DP. You have to always remember that a truly crazy mind is incapable of processing fear and worry about being irrational. You simply cannot be crazy and worried about being crazy.

I am so damn glad you commented this, I went days picturing gore in every person or thing. Worst case scenarios in every setting I was in... I pretty much at one point convinced myself I was insane and it would never go away. But it’s that exact thought that kept those intrusive ones around, after binge watching these DP Manual videos, I have been working on not letting those thoughts affect me, “we don’t control our thoughts, only how we react to them”. Good luck to you all.

Dude, I had Depersonalization for 7 months during some really dark times and I felt like I was going crazy. What you said about questioning about the existence of the dog is EXACTLY what I when through, I thought I was developing something and my life was doomed. However, here I am, after only 6 months, 100% free of this crap and living life like before. To anybody reading this, remember: you never thought you would end up having these existential crises, why would you now "know" that you would never stop having them? Stuff gets better when you stop trying to go against them. Not sure why this video showed up only now, but it'd be very helpful before hahaha

Just wanted to come on here and let everyone know it is possible to recover from this. I was stuck in the loop of feeling detached, not real, dizzy, everything and feeling like I was going to go crazy. 2 years later I am doing much better. I felt like I was high without being high. Everything seemed unreal or like a dream. Couldn't focus it was scary BUT realizing that this is a motion my body goes through to HELP and not hurt me really did help. I did not develope psychosis, I did not lose my mind. You are safe and healthy and everything he has said in this video is all true. Knowing others goes through this helps too. When your body is in fight or flight for so long the unconscious part of your brain and body starts to learn that non dangerous situations are dangerous and tries to protect you. Even when there's no danger. You will recover from this. Breathe and the less you react to this the more your brain will learn that these non dangerous situations are just that, not dangerous. And eventually you will start feeling and experiencing this less. Now when I feel like this I just take a breath and make sure I tell myself I am safe and I am sane. You are valid and whoever reads this I hope you get through this. It takes time and patience but you will feel better ❤️

Becuz science grown stronger?, what is the shape of god , some people say god is kind , merciful if that so why he doesn't listen to me when ever I say my pen to float , he cant afford that? I still fall back into the pattern of thinking that iim losing my mind or that my dp/dr is somehow unique and an actual neurological disease. Anxiety is a beast of an illness to have and i envy anyone who doesn't have to deal with it. Im going through a rough patch in my recovery at the moment , the last few days have been hell but i'm trying to stay optimistic. I avoid forums and psychology websites they just do more harm than good. The only resources i look at are your videos because they offer a good blend of information and reassurance. Thanks for everything you do, :)

Hey, thanks for your comment. Firstly, please make sure that you’re speaking to your parents about what’s happening. It’s very important that they know what’s going on. Secondly, I know DPDR can be frightening but remember that it's just your body and brain's natural response to stress and anxiety. It's not permanent and it can't hurt you. You can and will recover. Make sure to read through all the info and articles on my website at www.dpmanual.com And if you would like to speak to a medical professional please don't hesitate to do so. I would recommend finding an anxiety specialist if possible as they will likely be more familiar with DPDR 👍

For me it feels as if I am going to go crazy, insane, lose control or lose my grip on reality. I’ve been dealing with this for about a month now and it’s terrifying. It makes things seem as if they are surreal and most of the time I question if what I am doing and if my surroundings and the people around me are real. I honestly don’t know if I have anxiety or ocd or if it’s just intrusive thoughts. My mind feels absent and I don’t feel like myself but at the same time I can do everything normally as if I am on autopilot. I get this really bad anxiety feeling the night before school because I think to myself is tomorrow the day I go insane? I don’t know what to do.

I’ve experienced this for over a year I literally thought I would end up in a mental home...I believed I wasn’t real, I felt I was ‘faking’ relationships with friends and family because I just felt so unattached from the outside world. It was a lonely lonely place at my lowest I felt suicide. I thought I would never ever ever get better but I did ! I made a comment on here last year which explains how I beat it completely. Unfortunately I started experiencing this again after a great deal of stress last month, I experienced it BADDDD. It was affecting my work I was having constant panic attacks and just felt ‘unreal’ I would walk into a supermarket for example and felt as if I was in a ‘dream’ The reason for this log message is I beat this again and what helped me was something very simple...I started to meditate but also CAFFEINE....I can’t stress enough cut out coffee/ caffeinated drinks because they make your nervous system go wild....I have no recovered (again) and now I know it’s curable it doesn’t scare me as much. As this video explains it’s a natural response from your brain. It cannot harm you. Good luck everyone I promise you, you will beat this !!! I used to think I was stuck like it forever but I’m not :) xxx

I started feeling this way after quitting Xanax cold turkey and experiencing a lot of difficult events (a breakup and losing a close friend). I was diagnosed with an anxiety disorder in 2018 and after that I've had horrible depersonalization every now and then. About a month ago the depersonalization came back and it has lasted this whole time and doesn't want to go away. Going to sleep is the worst for me because I have to be alone with my thoughts and the weird "surreal" feeling. It's very frustrating and tiring. This video helped me to understand why I feel this way and it was comforting to hear from someone else that I'm in fact NOT going crazy. Thank you!

I am in my second experience with DP and it took me 4 months to realize that it was all rooted in those negative thought patterns. It's so crazy! Often I thought I will end up suicidal and forget who my friends and family are. But just 10 minutes ago I was washing dishes, reflecting on the day and "bam!" I just realized it! When all the useless negative thougts aren't there, there won't be a problem anymore. Now I will train myself to let those thoughts go completely! I know the feelings push you to think negatively and come up with all sorts of explanations, but i've done that enough for the last months. I deserve to feel like I did before DP.

It will last till you don’t confront your demons, thats it. You have to face your fears, read about existentialism. And will get better for me lasted a couple of days. You are so welcome! 😊 And don't worry, everything you're describing sounds like a very typical case of anxiety and DP 😊 I know it can be scary but just remember that it’s a natural reaction to stress and trauma, and people experience it all the time. The National Institute on Mental Illness estimates that up to 75% of people experience at least one depersonalization / derealization episode in their lives. It's part of your brain's natural defence mechanism and usually it only lasts a few seconds or minutes at a time. It's only when it's focused on as a separate problem (feeling like you're going crazy / in a dream etc) that it can turn into a feedback loop with the anxiety that caused it in the first place. But no matter what caused it or how long you've had it, you can always switch it off completely by stopping that anxious feedback loop. Make sure to carefully read through all the articles and info on my website at www.dpmanual.com

Wow... These kinda videos don't normally make me react emotionally but this almost made me want to cry with relief. I've suffered anxiety and depression for years now and I have had one or two occasions where I suddenly felt like I wasn't sound of mind and feared I was going crazy. Today in work I was just doing some of my jobs and I suddenly felt uneasy and like I was loosin my sanity right there and then or I was going to at some point. All I kept thinking was "what if I go crazy right now and I can't see my kids and my wife again". I was so scared but at the same time knew it was my anxiety in the back of my mind. So I quickly tried to calm myself down using anxiety calming methods and it eventually went. But the fear remained of the dreaded "what if". But now I've watched this I feel so much better. Thank you!

You’re great and you’re videos are so much helpful for people. I had my worst period in my life for about 3months. It all started with one panic attack, then derealization, depersonalization and depression. My hormones go bad of course. I was absolutely sure that I am going crazy because I am very sensitive person and I am overthinking everything in general. I am too emotional person and I thought that one day I will maybe go crazy because my deep feelings. One day I randomly found your website and then your KZread channel and I have to say that you helped me a lot then I helped myself without therapy! I had a fear staying alone in home and I couldn’t stay anywhere nowhere alone! Luckily I did because I made a conclusion that I am not alone in this and many people feel that way actually. I wish everyone with similar problems go better. Keep doing such good videos. Keep spreading good! @Depersonalization Manual

The analogy "wall of glass" between you and reality is spot on in it's simplicity. On your side, attempting to answer/solve the deep questions in your mind will not bring relief. Many conclusions or "divine philosophical realizations" you do come to will only trigger anxiety. Doing extensive research (looking through to the other side of the glass) can also spoon-feed anxiety, especially scrolling through mental illnesses. Videos by heroes like Shaun are different. He's basically reaching out and running his finger along the glass wall so you can see it for what it is. NOTHING on either side of the wall (mind/reality) has been altered or worsened. The wall cannot grow or last forever. I'm currently writing this from behind that wall. Let's not assume we know better than this man that has been in our situation.

Hearing these videos is so reassuring. For the past few months, I’ve had minor dpdr but only over the last week it’s gotten out of control. So many things that I was passionate about give me no joy anymore. This illness has taken so much from me, and I’ve been convincing myself that I am going insane. Nothing feels real and I constantly feel like I’m in a dream like state. I’m sitting in the airport right now terrified for how my dpdr is going to be on the flight, since I haven’t flown since before all of this started. It’s so exhausting and i feel so hopeless but your videos are a big help.

  • @Dpmanual

    @Dpmanual

    Жыл бұрын

Hey Dean, thanks for your comment and I'm very glad the videos have been reassuring 😊 I know DPDR can be scary but just remember that it’s a natural reaction to stress and anxiety, and people experience it all the time.

They have made a HUGE difference in my family - I have a beautiful 10 year old niece who is suffering from severe anxiety, she is a very sensitive and intelligent girl so the current situation has really taken a toll on her. Thanks to your amazing work we were able to identify that she has depersonalization issues. Your videos made us realize she is not alone so we all thank you from the bottom of our hearts! I wanted to ask whether you have any material specifically for children, I have heard of so many cases lately but unfortunately they have little support. It would be so amazing if you could address them! Let us know and thank you again for making such a meaningful difference in people's lives : )
