They were hurt by I-40 which let people drive right past them. Little towns like Shamrock, TX took a huge hit when RT 66 was decommissioned. Thankfully the nostalgia boom that began in the 1990’s has encouraged many people (often foreign visitors) to travel the “Mother Road.” If you own a motorcycle you owe it to yourself to ride it at least once. I especially recommend going East to West.

Eins meiner Lieblingssongs von Mode 💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼
Mixture of versions (Never Let Me Down, Behind the Wheel and World in my eyes). Either way, Depeche Mode still sounds absolutely great!! It's a shame my generation of 15-20 don't know what real music is like.

World In My Eyes wasn't a thing and there is zero Never Let Me Down in this. So, the only thing you are right about is Behind the Wheel.

all the kids know now is hip hop and rap that mostly sounds like garbage. Funny how as wild as rock and pop was...the artists werent gunning each other down in the streets. Not even the country singers that talked about drinking and guns.
einer der geilsten songs von DM, sehr selten. bin seit 25 jahren mode fan und bin jetzt erst draufkommen das es noch immer songs gibt die ich nicht kenne! Unglaublich aber wahr!
I've been to both ends. I used to live in Santa Monica so it was right on the pier. Was visiting family in Chicago on the other end. I hope to plan a route 66 trip. My cousin did that trip on his honeymoon. I always request this song on siriusxm first wave.

when my uncle got out of the army at the end of wwii he travelled route 66 all the way from California to Chicago.... he got tired of the road... in those days it went through towns and you had to follow the signage, etc, .,,,,when they go to the VERY END OF THE HIGHWAY... it was almost dead ending into Lake Michigan and there was a big sign: 'THIS IS THE END OF ROUTE 66'.... he nearly died laughing and told that story over and over till he died in 2005
My fave since 1987
На все времена

Finally found this version! I heard this over over a decade ago and didn't know who sang it, I picked up Burnout Paradise Remasterd (I never played the original) and found this song in it. Funny thing is I like a lot of Depeche Mode songs to but I didn't know they covered this.

Matthew Wells i played the original burnout paradise where i first heard the beatmaster's mix of this song. I later went to check out the original and its one of my alltime favourite songs now.

I discovered this incredible version of Bobby Troop's awesome song on the soundtrack of the movie Earth Girls Are Easy (and no I am not making this up).
muito foda essa musica, não pra acreditar que já fazem 31 anos do seu lançamento.
I live on route 66:)
Amazing
LOL - that's awesome. I really love this song also. Makes me remember the great times I had when this song came out in 87'. It wasn't played on the radio here in Houston, but it was played in a nightclub I used to go to. Those were some really great times...
Bad ass song! Enjoyed it at Dodger Stadium in the 80s and am enjoying now in 2021 yeaaaah buooyyy
muy buena version de este clasico de los 50s ., incrieble que una cancion no tenga época cuando es buena trasciende el tiempo ademas esta bueno el mix

There are still sections (now called "Old Route 66") in southern Missouri.
Thank you for reposting this. SME had mine removed. And my only complaint is that I don't have an original copy anymore. It was not my best video but it is one of my firsts.
Remember hearing this dad's car in 87 and saying let's go to Barstow!! Lol lol - he said ummmm no !! AWE GEN X THE BEST!!!❤️❤️❤️
It may have been the end of an era for the Mother Road(at the time)when this cover [song] came out... But who cares! It's still a good song and yes 👍! I'm all about route 66..... ☺
Best cover EVER!
Love this version
Fun Fact: Bobby Troop, who wrote Route 66, played Dr. Joe Early on the 1970's tv series Emergency!
