I think this song will be timeless probably forever. I can't believe it's already 34 years old. So many years have passed, I wasn't even born back then but yet...This is a timeless masterpiece. Yes because western societies were rich back then, since 80s they are sliding in poverty mainly due to the greed of corporations whom started to produce east. Western societies especially and also other area in the world produce less art and culture if not became sterile.

It is for late night driving. When I came back from California it was a 10 hour flight to Heathrow and I didn’t sleep at all on the flight. I got in the car and this song came on the radio as I was going up the motorway back home and it was the perfect song to drive home to jet lagged.

Not surprised. This was/is the song for me & my furry cat son (Blinky), but we were separated while I was in a compromised state. The pain is excruciating and my arms still feel empty. I had no reason or will to continue until he came into my life, he gave me peace and meaning and a sense of being tethered to this earth. The lyrics fit very well for a parent experiencing the fulfilling connection with a child. Words are truly unnecessary for something so indescribable, and I’m usually the most exhaustively wordy person I know. Being with my little boy settled my mind, allowed me to simply “be”.

My career as a songwriter and music producer wouldn't had started without me falling in love with this song and the album Violator when I was a kid. I fell in love with the sound. I fell in love with the lyrics. I am now an accomplished sound engineer partly because of my love for Depeche Mode. This band means more than just music to me. And 30 years later I still think this is the most beautiful song ever written.

I had just held my firstborn, a daughter and was ushered out while they took care of mother and baby. I sat in my shitbox van and tried to understand what had just happened, how suddenly everything was different. I lit a smoke and turned on the radio, this song played and it made perfect sense. She is nearly 30 and this song takes me back to that moment every time.

You can tell how much a song moves you. I'm a 64 year old man and when this song came out, I was blown away. I actually did this at a karaoke last year. I'm not a great singer by any means, but I can carry a tune. LOL. Anyway, I had the crowd at the pub up dancing. I was quite flattered. My son and daughter were there with their mates and my wife. It was my birthday and I had a few. This is the only reason why I got up. We had a lot of fun.

Depeche Mode is such a great band. What started as an electric pop band really evolved in one of the great rock bands of the last decades. And my God yes what a singular and great voice. Funny thing, I was never really a Depeche Mode fan or a New Order fan but their songs always seemed to be part of the soundtrack of my life. I don't know if that makes any sense but they always seemed to be there in an unobtrusive sort of way.

My Mom loved this song and would always play this on road trips or on my way driving me to school. Around late Feburary of 2023 she died of cancer and this song will always help me remember her. It's her birthday on the 9th of September and I'm still listening to this for her honor

The 80s was more future than right now, it feels like we’re so stagnant and corporate currently in music and culture.

This song reminds me of when I traveled in the car with my father and played this song, I got to know it that way and I will always be grateful to my father for presenting this masterpiece, every time I listen to it my eyes fill with tears. Legend

Fun fact: Last night as I lay in bed watching House of Versace, a very fat moth flew into my bedroom window. I located the moth by noticing a loud pecking sound against the walls and ceiling. It was trying to find its way out, apparently. So, I didn’t kill the moth. I gave it a chance to leave as I continued watching the movie. After finishing the movie I played one last song before bed. People are People by Depeche Mode. When I woke up the next morning the moth was gone. I’m assuming it didn’t die and fall behind some furniture😎

It'd sweep all the awards if it came out yesterday. Not as much high-level competition these days (greedy music industry execs' fault rather than the artists themselves, of course). They simply don't have the production and promotion budgets that used to be commonplace.
