Denver opens 'micro-community' for the homeless | NewsNation Now

Most importantly they will be an escape from the elements where life can begin again. I fled the hostility of a micro community for the safety of the streets. I am in the trenches. Every minute I see the damage of Johnston's decisions I see the ugliness the media does not report. Rape, prostitution, racism, assaults, gun violence, drugs, human trafficking, and property damage accompany this population. My determination for rehousing has been defamed by the city of Denver and Mike Johnston. As a member of his Housing and Homelessness Committee, Johnston thought I would be one of his "yes" people. He does not accept criticism. Micro Communities in Denver have existed for at least ten years and all are failures. The only people benefiting are the operators and providers with large sums of money. My self-advocacy and lived-experience has given me access to arenas most do not know exist. Johnston is no messiah. He is part of the problem.

Yes, I would welcome these homes to be built in my back yard. These folks have been given bad luck and should be given very basic necessities to give them the dignity they deserve as much as we do. They are a valuable addition to any community. They are willing to work hard to get "back on track". As to the druggies and mental health issues. Small homes (or any other kind) will not solve their problems. On the issue of "druggies and mental health problems", they will not be in these small homes. I would not want to be within 50 miles of them. Think about this for a moment. Housing is of no help. They need to be sheltered in a facility that can treat them. They can't be trusted to be "outpatients". They'd be back to their addiction in less then a day. The best society can do for the "crazies" is lots of medication and community living, out of the general public.

@@firstlast8258 if youre mocking my statement . Mine was not an original statement it was penned by author Charles Dickens who was referencing how the homeless were treated at the time in England . Read the classics they are insightful and also great at highlighting the absurdity of reality

Thank you new mayor for STICKING the cost of another homless site to those who are permanent property tax payers who are angry about supporting those who wish to live "free."

Nice. Now the homeless migrants will be able to fill the streets where the homeless Americans once were. I can't wait to hear how the shared laundry space works out.

Most just use the bathroom for number 2. I just pee in a bottle and dump it down my sink so I don't have to use the communal bathroom that often.
