Today we will talk about techniques and steps to achieve an excellent inversion of the rubber dam to generate good humidity control.
This time we start with the marking, as we have already mentioned in the previous video, I like to start by placing the rubber dam over the teeth and mark a central dot with the marker.
After making the hol we place a thin layer of a lubricating medium such as "petroleum jelly" commercially known as vaseline.
We stretch the rubber dam to help us pass it between the contact points, pressing towards one face of a piece and then the other.
We repeat the procedure with the others.
At this point, as we are doing a canine-to-canine isolation, I personally like to place a clamp on each premolar on one side and on the other, this takes a lot of tension from the anterior sector. And although the patient is anesthetized at this point, it is possible to remove some pressure by placing the dental clamp over the rubber dam.
There are different ways to make the investment, I like to start by passing thread between the contact points, although it is not absolutely necessary we can look for a thread that is PTFE-based, in Mexico there are some but the easiest to find is Oral B Pro Hello, I leave the link in the description so that you want.
And although to perform the technique it is not absolutely necessary to do it with a PTFE-based thread, it does facilitate sliding. We always slide against a wall carefully observing not to cut the gum, although with practice we try to do it with pure touch, it does not hurt to observe what we are doing.
With this movement we try to introduce as much rubber dam into the groove. To finish later with an instrument. But doing it in the first instance with a thread makes the second step much easier. That although it is not a formula, see more as a recommendation from a friend.
To remove it, I do not do it by stretching, but by passing it another time and we remove it when both ends are on the same side.
Again here we pass the thread pressing towards one face inside the groove, we pass the other end to the same side and we draw together.
We repeat this process on all teeth.
Countless times when passing the rubber dam in a space that I did not previously check with the floss before isolating, it ended torn, always check the contact points before isolating and if we come across an area where the thread does not enter, such as a bad adapted restoration, open the contact first and then place the rubber dam. Again it is not a rule its an advice.
The second part is to use a scanner, for this I actually use one that is not very fine, an old scanner that can even file the tip a little is excellent.
We place a finger under the rubber dam, or we stretch with one hand and with the other we pass the explorer with the tip towards the tooth. Always trying that the tip is not above the dam, this can cause tears.
Now it is not absolutely necessary to pass a thread first before performing this step, for this we will remove the previous investment that we did with the thread and we will do it from 0 only with the explorer.
Again we stretch first to place the explorer between the dam and the tooth and release while dragging the explorer.
We will repeat the same in the canine. It should be noted that we are doing it in a medium without fluids, in the mouth it helps a lot for an assistant to dry the field with an air while we do this.
At the end of the inversion of the buccal aspect, we can use an intreproximal thread.
Now we will look at the lingual aspect. Certainly little attention is paid because they are not seen in the final photograph, but nothing is more common than a poorly sealed lingual margin, so they should not go unnoticed.
Using a probe to reverse the rubber dam is just one of many ways, we can actually use just about any thin spatula or cord packer that goes into the groove the options are endless.

When we use a spatula or packer the movement is practically the same as when we pack.
Due to the inclination and size of the canine, I tend to stretch slightly lingually to reach the comma dike at the edge of the sulcus and there I pack.
