So under rated. Bird said he was the best he ever played with. Their chemistry was magical. Dude hit a ton of clutch shots too.

The chemistry between DJ and Bird was a thing of beauty.

When first seeing DJ play in Seattle as a rookie, you could see he was gonna be a great player, and we hearing he was gonna be a Celtic and Bird teammate, you knew championship rings were on the horizon.

Great stuff, thanks for this! Love to watch DJ play basketball. With the Celtics he was past his peak (especially as an athlete), but he developed into such an intelligent, cerebral point-guard… he paced himself more, knew how to control the tempo of the game, knew where the ball should go, could really pass it and yet wasn’t hogging the rock… was still a great defensive player because he had the awareness, the smartness and fundamentals, had some really quick hands (to go along with a great wingspan); he wasn’t as fast as before but was stronger and had the footwork and IQ. Not to mention, he was very clutch throughout. And could still score at a nice level…

Fluid team basketball, what a concept.

There were so many really good teams in the early to mid '80s and DJ was a big partnof what made those Celtics teams so great. Not only did DJ make Bird better, he was a great all-around player in this own right.

There is a video where Dee Brown is talking about how DJ taught him some tricks on how to play defense. He said DJ told him every player has a comfortable and uncomfortable dribble pattern. So, he would watch each of the players during the game and learn their patterns. He could then judge just when to "pick the ball off people". I think, but I may be wrong, that it was when a player was comfortable and not in defense mode, it was easier to take the ball away. Has anyone else heard about this? It is on KZread. I think on the NBA history channel with Michael Cooper.

Dennis Johnson was the toughest player on every team he played for until he came to Boston. I am not saying that anyone on the Celtics was tougher but they would have all put up a good fight.
