LYRICS:
TO THE GOOD OLD DAYS
It’s so hard to say goodbye
So I promise not to cry
But any tears that might be shed
are only tears of joy
And I thank my lucky stars
That we’ve come so very far
Rising up against the odds
To where we are today
And though there may be sadness
Let’s all raise a glass
Cheers to us and all that’s passed
To the good old days
When the world was new
When we still believed
Dreams could come true
To the good old days
And to all our friends
May the memories last
May they never end
So we’ll go our several ways
Wishing somehow we could stay
Safe again so safe again in all our
i nnocence
When we all would sing along
As they played our favorite song
Dreaming of tomorrow’s
that seemed so limitless
So as we come together
let’s make this moment last
Here’s to us and to the past
To the good old days
To the sweetest years
To the ones we loved
Through the laughs and tears
To the times ahead
May we all forgive
To the good old days
Long may they live
Funny how the years have slipped away
Always there beyond our grasp.
Funny how it all seems looking back
Oh oh oh
To the good old days
When we all were young
To the love we shared
May our songs be sung
To the times ahead
May we all forgive
To the good old days
May they always live
A.D. 2020
And so my friends
I’ll say goodbye
For time has claimed it’s prize
But the music never dies
Just listen and close your eyes
And welcome to paradise
Song written by Dennis DeYoung. Duet with Julian Lennon.

The day I met Dennis back in 2019, at a show in Alabama was absolutely amazing. My great grandmother had passed away that night, but my family told me to go to the concert anyways, so I did. I got to get a picture with him after the show. He probably thought I didn’t know any songs considering I was only about 17 then, but I’m actually a huge fan. I own every album he’s ever made. I even got his signature on my paradise theater album, which was the first vinyl I ever owned. Thanks To Mr DeYoung, and Styx.

This is very special Dennis. While I have been a huge fan for over 40 years I have never had the pleasure of meeting you. However your mom did walk into a Tower Records in San Diego once and my wife was checking her out. She saw the last name DeYoung on the CC and shyly asked if she was in any way related to you. Your mom told her that she was your mother and my wife then spilled all the beans about what a fan I was of you and Styx. And that was it. Some time after that you mom returned to the same store and presented a poster to give to me that was from Desert Moon and you signed it. What? Mind blown. Thanks for all the years of wonderful music filled with positive lyrics and beautiful harmonies.

Aside from being one of the best singers and song writers of the past 50 years, you are also one of the most loving and caring men I have seen. I can see it in your face and hear it in your voice when you talk about family and friends past and present and can see how you work to not break when talking about John. Those stories and rumors from those "other" guys are just that. I met you and You are NOTHING like that. A perfectionist, yes, but you take time out to talk to fans, and aren't rude or anything. Love you Dennis.

So sorry for your loss. My sympathies go out to you and your family. This video makes me cry every time. Lost my dad in 95. There aren't enough words to tell you how much your music means to me. Your music has always been there for me. With a voice still as crystal clear as it was back in the day, you still belt those songs out like no other. Thank you Dennis, thank you for your music. It means the world to me.

Thanks for all the music through the years!! And so very sorry about your sister Darcy. I almost lost my brother a few years ago in his 40’s due to a brain infection. Nothing prepares you for how hard it is to lose a sibling. Thinking of you and all the family.

I could listen to Dennis talk all day long. It's funny, I had a '65 VW bug, and my dream car was a '68 Stingray. I ended up with a '77 Trans Am. anyway, his version of The Best of Times at home during the pandemic really boosted my spirits, and I appreciate it so much
