They think so much of Foden, knowing he has never been outstanding in an England jersey. This is the first time much is expected from Foden; he has always been a peripheral player for England. Gordon, like Palmer, is a debutant, and to think they can do magic is beyond sound logic. The best England can do is to look for a DM (this is the role of Kelvi Philips) who would sit in front of the back four. Rice needs a bit of freedom to move forward like he did with Arsenal with Partey or Jorginho.

If you are even considering dropping Jude deeper into the 8, you are insane. Literally taking away one of your best weapons from the area of the pitch he can do the most damage. TAA and Rice need to stay as the double pivot to shield Jude as he moves up with the rest of the forwards.

Not at all, Bellingham will dictate the game from the 8 similar to haw Zidane played that position. Madrid have been playing without a Centre forward so they have been reliant on him scoring goals from the 10. England have a man up top so you actually lose something by playing Bellingham in the 10 because the space isn't there for him to drive into like at Madrid. It's a significantly different formation.

you are playing draughts when you need to play chess. Bellingham is a natural 8 and with Rice can control the midfield area which is where games are won and lost. Putting Foden at 10 in his best position is far better than sticking him out wide where he is clearly not suited. Don't underestimate Bellingham's ability to still affect the game from the 8 position. The lad is a physical specimen.

@@bushmonster1702 I would rather drop Foden completely vs moving Jude back to the 8. I want his physicality high up the pitch. Plus the balance would be off - if you play Foden at the 10 and Jude at the 8 then you will leave Rice completely alone on most occasions which will not work out well.

For me Englands problem is without the ball - need to press more, run more, close down the delivery quicker pressure any team quickly and they become worse! You cannot as Southgate suggested preserve energy that's what subs are for!

Watch hiw England press from an opposition goal kick. Whoever is on the left wing 8s told to position himself in the middle instaed of marking the righback.Then when the rightback receives the ball, Gordon has to run 20 plus yards to close him down. But the ball has already moved on, and all the rest of the England players are allso ten yards to late

Weve seen that playing Foden as LW does not work. There was no threat from that side, which meant Kane got little service . Gordon is a much better choice. Having two out and out wingers takes the pressure off midfield . I wouldn't start either Foden or TAA , but go with a more defensive partner for Rice, such as Mainoo.

Because Bellingham as a 10 at Madrid is completely different, they don't tend to play with a Centre Forward. Once you have a striker up top then it completely changes the balance and the way Bellingham operates in the 10. Most of Bellinghams good work in the 1st game bar the goal was in the 8.

I disagree about foden “wandering” I think off the ball he was fantastic and did a good defensive job. Granted he was off the boil in an attacking sense. As much as Bellingham could do a great job further back, you will lose some of his goal threat and he’s on fire with that part of his game. I do think a lack of a left footed left back will hurt us long term. Surely there is someone even lower down the premier league who could play there. Leif Davies was Ipswich player of the year with 18 assists from left back. He will be a premier league player next season. Why not take a punt if there is literally nobody else

I agree with the title, also play the right fucking team. Which is: Pickford TAA. Gomez. Guehi. Shaw Rice. Wharton/Mainoo Jude Saka. Kane. Gordon Forget Foden, he's a luxury player that Southgate is forcing in to appease the media. He's literally killing Jude's game as he occupies the areas outside of the box which is where Jude goes to contribute in the final third. Invert TAA so he sits with Wharton/KB and Rice can go forward. He'll attract opposition players to free up space for Shaw to cross the ball and Jude to make runs into the box to support Kane. Rice also has the athleticism to come back and support TAA and Wharton/KB defensively. Jude can also come back and help defend which can help England hold a compact shape to suffocate the opposition. Foden would kill all the balance in this team and be a passenger cos he's a 10 and never moves. He's also never played well for England. So it's pointless starting him.

Forcing Foden in, who historically hasn't played well for us will be the downfall, I like your ideas, except Trent is weird and just stops running to defend, it's like he doesn't try. I'd have Kyle Walker, and actually Gomez at LB. Shaw has been confirmed to not be ready. With Wharton, Rice and Jude providing the forward creativity. Bringing on Trent and Foden, could be a masterstroke, providing Southgate doesn't wait till the end of the game!

I would have agreed with having Bellingham at #8 before the tournament but after the Serbia game theres no doubt he should be the #10. Jude brings that cutting edge and physicality that Foden hasnt been able to deliver in an England shirt.

That physicality is much more useful in the 8 though because that is where the pace of the game is dictated from.
