This is a great streamer. I was skeptical about spending this much on a dedicated streamer but it was a very noticeable step up from my Allo USBridge Signature Pi Streamer which also had the Shanti linear power supply. I just put in an order for the LHY LPSU and look forward to another step in in sound quality. Your videos have been very helpful, thank you.

One of the most useful Hi Fi channel on KZread 👍.

Alvin, I loved this video. Not only because I was curious about the Lumin U2 mini but also for what you said at the end in respects to using a DDC with node / zen stream and U2 mini. I’m definitely going to do a video on streamers and DDC’s at some point. It was an awesome idea for you to get all these streamers and do these videos! In addition, nice Speedmaster pro!! 👍🏻🍻

If you get U2, I highly recommend the SBooster LPS. Takes it to another level. Totally worth it to me. Thanks for your vids too

Hi Olivr, I use Sommercabel, Mogami, Gotham cables. They are pro audio studio grade cables, inexpensive but good quality :)

I have a Terminator II 12th. What’s the best connection for the Lumin to it? AES? USB? Thanks!

Thanks Alvin. I just had the SBooster upgrade kit installed in my U2 Mini. The results for me: more of everything and an added layer of realism. I heard the U2 stock and the difference is noticeable. I’m using the Venus II with USB. Do you recommend I use AES rather than USB? Also, I was told by US rep in CA that when using Leedh volume control, optimum volume on the app slider is 95 level out of 100 after setting amp volume to approx. unity gain level. He said they found this the case after many audio show demos. Lastly, burn in is said to be around 400-500 hours. Thanks as always!

Excellent review. Please add to list the SOTM sms-200 Ultra Neo, and perhaps the Allo Usbridge Signature. These two are well acclaimed in the audiophile community reporting noticeable improvements in sound parameters and quality.

Thank you Alvin for doing this series on streamers. I use a Roon Nucelus as a core/ transport into Aries II and find it performs very well. I am limited to Tital and Quboz though. It would be great if you have the opportunity try this set up. Thanks again

Hi Carlos, you mention that it works well. Alvin is trying to solve - potential - problems. What would be the benefit of Alvin testing your suggested combination? As for sound quality Room states that the Roon Core does not make any difference🙂

Hello Alvin Very nice review, informative and a very practical, no-nonsense approach. Thank you. Obviously, the Lumin U2 Mini is a very capable streamer, even though it is at the bottom of their streamer line. On the other hand, the 2.000+ EUR price is quite a bit prohibitive, at least for me. I am sure Denafrips DACs have been designed with good, higher-class source components in mind, but have you considered trying out a really budget streamer like WiiM Mini in combination with an Ares 2 DAC (for example)? As a WiiM and RPi user, I would be very interested to hear if such a combination makes sense to you. Thanks and best regards

When you talk about Lumin volume control, which you liked, did you mean a software power control in Lumin's app or the hardware power control manufactured by Lumin?

Hi Alvin, great video. I bought the U2 mini abt 1 month ago and I am using it via USB output to the DAC in my Esoteric K-03xd SACD player and I find its damn good man.

Alvin, given the Venus 2 i2s input, I recommend testing the Mano Ultra MKII streamer. That unit has a linear power supply built in and is less expensive than the Lumin. Would love to know the results you experience.

Am playing with the Venus II and the Mano Ultra via I2s. Sounds really great. Very happy with both.

Any preference as to what output to use? The USBwill handle higher sampling rates, but anyone have a sound preference?

It’s a difficult question to answer. If higher sampling rate is important to you, USB connection would be the one :)

Hy any click noise when bit rate is changing with ifi zen stream ?

If you experience clicks when changing sampling rate, it could be the resync delay related. I do not see this in iFi setting though. If you use roon, roon has this setting to mitigate/reduce the click noise.

@@VinshineAudio this is the reason that i sold my Rokna dac. If venus or terminator is making same issue is best to know before buy the product. Many thanks. Roon is offering a delay but i can not use everythime roon . Many thnaks please check if is clicking on pcm 44.1 to 48.

Hi sir, do you mean you would like to play WAV files? I bet it is straightforward. Load the WAV to a storage (i.e. USB pendrive), connect it to the Lumin streamer. It should scan the storage and allow you to play the files.

This is a case of what i mentioned in a previous video. For the price and if specially if you have/ use several sources (streamer, cd transport, turntable, etc.) I think it's wiser to get a good ddc and improve the sound quality of all of them instead of spending the same money and improve your streamer only.

Lucky you who hear all these differences with network streamers and with all UPGRADES. As far as I'm concerned, streamers all sound the same, the difference is the software. Lumin software is adapted and non-proprietary software like that of Auralic. Get out of prejudices and test with other streamers and you will see that there are no sound differences. There cannot be. The speech with the DACs is different
