Ride every day and have a full car and bike licence, but always watch these as if I were still learning. Never put a cap on your capacity to learn people! Knowledge is key!

Thanks, even though you insist on riding on the wrong side of the road, you have saved my life countless times. You have become the voice in the back of my head while I ride. I will turn 60 in a few months and have been riding for 12 months, and love it. Oh, and my Family thanks you also, I hope. All kidding aside thank you for all the videos you have posted through the years. You have made better riders of all the students you have taught in your career as well as all of us on youtube. God Bless. Am I allowed to say that?

Thanks for your kind words, I don't use the "G" word but I know the sentiment is genuine. Ride safe buddy. ☺
Fantastic video. Loved it!
Thank you, always good to go for a ride with you and be reminded.
happy birthday Russ, great video as usual and full of information.
as always good stuff. I learn something every time I watch. Thanks!
hi I've been riding daily for 40 odd years. This is great. I like your shoulder check being called a"life saver" that's just what it is, I've never heard out called that before. No matter how often you've been trained or how much you've ridden watching these are always worth while no matter weather is new learning or revision. Well done. You do a good service to us all by posting these. Rob from Australia.
I really do love these videos, I find them extremely helpful. Thank you.
i'm coming up to 52 arrghhh!!! Love watching your bike control, so graceful, another useful vid
I have to say that you are probably the calmest instructor i have seen or known. I see and hear about instructors that loose their rag at learners because they have forgotten how many years it's taken them to get to the level of riding that they are now at but they expect learners to do it almost straight away. Some learners do well with a firm approach but others need a soft coaxing type of teaching as they are not confident in life generally let alone on a motorcycle. Ride safe mate. Ps 50 years old, i remember - - - - - - - - - !!
Great vid Russ. Really sharpens you up again, especially with the lifesavers!
Always interesting and instructive, thanks!
Thanks Rus, a fantastic resource for learner riders like myself.
3 years riding and still picked up some good tips here! Thanks :)
Thank you so much for taking the time to record and post this video. Very helpful and top advice as always. Stephen
Really enjoyed that - I've been riding a couple of years now and I watched your vids while training. Still find them useful
Welcome back. I love your videos. I've only been riding for about a year and find your videos really helpful and informative, thank you
Well done. I learn something every time I watch one of you videos. Thanks
I lay up my bike over the winter months I find these videos a useful refresher to getting back on two wheels
Great stuff, sir! Your method is a pleasure to watch. I look forward to applying what I learned.
Thanks as always. These two guys really improved over just those 10 minutes too.
Id love to do my A2 at your school next year, you helped me ace my cbt! Just from watching videos! :D
I would agree...I find these type of video very useful... we learn a bunch. thanks. .. happy birthday man. ..
great video happy birthday.. hope to many more
Nice one Russ, these videos help as a bit of a refresher. Always learning on the road!

Good revision session for the newly qualified riders. Thanks Russ.
I watched all your vids before doing my test this summer. Really helped, especially the Mod1 stuff. So Thanks from Plymouth!
keep it up fella. always enjoy ure vlogs.
I really like vids like this. I've got so many bad habits, nice to see someone riding a bike properly on public roads and give a running commentary!
Like a Boss ;) Great vid as always Russ
A bit nanny-ish, but so much needed for new riders. Wish I had this instruction back in the 80's when I started riding! I still learned something from this video. Thank you sir, awesome vid!
Very good video thanks very much for posting this.
These videos are really useful, I've started talking to myself as I ride too, great for the old brain, thankyou.
Russ, I would love to just come to the UK and train with you. You have such a high command of your bike and make everything so much easier to understand.
Yep! good demo. I am a 68 year old Bambi back to biking after a 30 year break. (Full A licence) I took your advice and had a free assessment with the local IAM. Six months later I got a "Pass" I found all the recommendations by you far more helpful even though the local expert advice was excellent. All the Observers were running Pans, Beemers, and showing what can be achieved with positioning into bends, limit points at higher speeds that I could comfortably cope with which I did not enjoy. However, I did it and now I treat every bend slightly inboard of the centre or edge of the road; and back off the speed a bit more and then enjoy the riding experience far more and safely. From rural to urban, all your advice are absolute gems. I feel safer, happier, and far more confident. After all, chasing Beemers and Pans knocks the pants out of my Honda Forza NSS 300 AD Thank you guys, we need more of you :) Phil

Although it was only 2 years ago I did my test for 'big' bikes (A2) I still love watching the lesson videos, you never know what you might learn. My instructor was a lot like you, very detailed. Great video as usual. :)
Thank you for putting this up !
I've been riding motorcycles for just over a year now and your videos have been brilliant!! Thanks!!.. Just waiting on Yamaha then going to treat myself to an MT07 ..keep up the superb helpful videos... safe riding :-)
I have the same bike like your students and i have so much fun with it! learnig so much, in to traffic, in to mecanics, everything. It`s so good for beginners that i relly recomand!
youre a very nice driving instructor. I wish I would have had such a nice teacher when had been practising for my license...
thank you I found this clip to be very helpful and easy to understand. Thank you sir
50 is the new 30! You are a talented young man, I wish you many more!
watching this video is like relearning the things that we forget, me riding for 9 months sometimes still make newbie mistakes. Love to watch more videos like this
Awesome video matey. Always learning when I come across these. If you're ever over in the Canadian Rockies you're more than welcome to stop in for a cuppa..... or camp out on the grounds. Ride Safe Steve. (Ex-Brit now living in BC.)
This is incedibly helpful I'm getting My a2 licensen here in sweden, I've Done everything exept the final driving test wich I'm incredibly nervous about but your videos are very structured and informative wich helps alot :) keep em coming :)
I passed the IAM a couple of years ago and a lot of that was down to watching your video's. brilliant stuff
Hi Russ, just wanted to say your videos have been a massive help to me, I've had to retake my tests to upgrade my A2 licence to a full A, passed my mod 2 today with no minors! No lessons too, just watched your videos for a refresher!
Hi Russ, Just a quick post, after a couple of weekends training with a good school, and watching a fair few of your vids passed my Mod1 and Mod2 with 1 minor!! I think that the infomation I gained from them helped me a lot, keep up the good work!! Cheers Mate Colin.
Happy birthday! This video makes me feel much better about my upcoming tests for A2. I basically do everything in this automatucally. The only thing that worries me is navigating diverse roads and junctions, I think I may get tricked out at some point during my test and fail because of it haha. Please keep making these types of videos, you are extremely helpful not old when it comes to building knowlege of the road but confidence also! If Nottingham wasnt two hiurs away I would totaly try to book my tests with you!
Very informative! It's nice you explain everything you do. Please make more "what happens next" videos. They are really helpful for all level of bikers in decision making and situational awareness. You know, not all of us have eyes in our arse lol
more vids like this please, they're very helpful;)
Been riding bikes for over 20 years and have a full licence , but after watching your video I realise my bad habits and less shoulder checks I do these days ...... so thanks for the little reminder :)
Happy 50th! and Nice video!

Thanks Mark, nice outlook. ☺
This was so helpful. I've recently completed my cbt, but if I'm honest, I haven't been 100% confident about how I'm supposed to bring the bike down in speed to a stop from higher speeds in higher gears. I read a lot about engine breaking etc but just seeing you talk through your process approaching junctions/roundabouts has made what I sort of fluffed my way through on my cbt ride so much clearer!
I find this to be a great refresher. I started riding/commuting only three weeks ago and unfortunately lots of important small things slip your mind when you are out there on your own. Do more of these please.
some good tips thanks keep up the good work, happy b day
Back in the 80s we were always taught back and front brakes when stopping. I tend to use back brake and front brake occasionally when stopping. Interesting to see what has changed over the thirty years. I'm trying to convince myself to do an observed ride with an advanced rider and do the Advanced Rider Training, of which I have watched videos of and use some techniques when I'm on the road. My confidence is building up to maintaining speeds on national speed limit roads as I was holding back a bit doing 49-52 mph.
Happy 50th. :) I am 52 and just starting riding 12 months ago, loving it.
Going on bike this morning for the first time since passing mod 2 Thursday, very informative video thanks very much 👍

Great vid Russ, concise and to the point with no bollocks. 50 isn't too bad, I'm nearly 53 and about to take my Part 2, (I failed my test back in '80 and never bothered again). Hopefully all will go according to plan, fingers crossed, 'cos it's so expensive to pass nowadays. Ride safe, keep the shiny side up, peace.
You give great, clear instructions and I wish all instructors were as good. I got a serious on my mod 2 for observations and I think that's largely because I'm not sure what observations I'm missing. I paid a lot for my DAS training and you've given more instruction in 10 minutes than I got in over the course of about 6 road hours. Apart from giving directions my instructors didn't give many instructions.
Congratulations, old man!
Excellent!!
Been riding for ages, ride all the time, its my hobby and my job, but stil learn from you and enjoy watching you. great videos, shame your not closer so I could have a little direct instruction from you :D keep up the videos.
I wish my instructor was as helpful as you, I'm only 5 minutes in and already learnt more practical riding tips than a whole day of cbt training.
Lovely, really nicely done and will happily show this to any beginner riders in the future :-)
Many Happy Returns Russ. I hope you treated yourself!

+RoadcraftNottingham Thats what happens when we get to 50... hydraulic ramps and auto lifts are no longer luxury items. I just got a lift to work on my cars and I figure it will keep me going well past 70.
Brilliant, thank you mate
Hi, Just failed my mod 2 on the 1st attempt. (Observations). This vid was of great help so thank you. I have put in for my second test so fingers crossed.
For few years I have been watching your videos as car driver. To learn how deal better with bikers. But yesterday I counted first 30 km with my Aprilia Scarabeo 125 i.e. Still alive, any scratches. And that's the bike infection. :D
Really good video, you should do more about safety on the road... Too many people die in motorcycle accidents every day, if only one could be saved thanks to watching your video earlier then your mission is complete. We all appreciate your effort.
passed my test years ago these videos really help my road position and pre planing and stuff, yet I still find my self coming back and going through them for some reason lol.
Great vid mate, nice to see how you work :) Also Happy Birthday dude!
Nice one Russ and a happy 50th birthday!

I'm an anti shoulder check rider, the reason: dependant on the speed you are travelling by the time you have carried out a shoulder check and your head is facing forward again, unless you have absolutely 100% assessed what's going on in front of you first it's dangerous as anything could pull out in front of you and before you know it you're down(I have witnessed this first hand and almost been a victim a few times, my fault entirely for not assessing what's going on in front of me for sure, that is difficult particularly being a newish rider at the time). Personally I adjust myself according to my mirrors so lean forward to adjust my point of view and I can see my blind spot no problem, this way my peripheral vision still has sight of the road ahead, I also have blind spot mirrors, I find this a safer way for me. Nice video, I really enjoy your videos, your videos are a huge part of the reason I passed.
@RoadcraftNottingham

This is why I always tell my trainees if anything more important is happening in front, give it priority. If something DOES happen in front when doing a shoulder check, the rider hasn't planned enough ahead. ☺
I've had a car license for 11 years. Your videos have inspired me to learn ride a motorcycle. Its improved my driving too! Working my way through the DVSA dvds. Will be doing the theory test before the cbt and direct access. Thank you for consistently demonstrating safe and enjoyable roadcraft

Ended up on this channel while looking for a review for a Triumph Street Triple, became curious about the other vids and started watching tons of them, just so many damn good ones. And the accent is the cherry on top. My girlfriend was like what, you still watching those vids? But hey, she enjoys them as well. Keep it up mate, great job!

Hope to do the instructor course one day, good vid and like your calm manner with the students👍
Just me ... back again revising reviewing! Completed an ACC Bronze Rider course here in NZ and happy to say the material on RC vids was helpful in advance of that too!
Thanks for the video, useful information. Come to Plymouth, bikes are allowed to use (nearly all) bus lanes all the time.
Thanks for the video! Love it! I don't have bike yet, but I like to prepare myself, just in case I get bike by some miracle. xD
Awesome vid as always, mate! If everyone rode like you i'm sure bikes would have the same accident rates as cars... or even less!
Good training video. I'm 2 months behind you on 50. It's only a number but still 50.
Good upload. I like it. I've done a two day course with an ex police rider. Some things I already did through experience with advanced planning, but I picked up a few things which is great. I do this style of riding in built up areas. I ride a Mille and drive a LWB Transit van. I must be the only observant van driver (who checks his surroundings every few seconds) in the UK. lol Been riding for 31 years. I'm always aware of what's around me at all times. Never assume ANYTHING. I always assume other road users are totally incompetent. I'm usually right. Roads are getting worse and so are drivers. Ride safe.
Well done.
I will be doing a DAS soon and I'd love to get an instructor teaching the way you do. Thanks for sharing the many useful videos.

enjoying that so much I was surprised when it ended lol just getting into it. As an older biker also turning 50 soon I was suprise how many bad habits you get... Happy belated birthday Russ! Where is your Laminar Lip and RiderScan? Hey Adam, you're doing fine, listen to Russ and speed it up man. You'll get there! Remember, Russ has eyes in his ARSE!
is part of the bike test part 2 i find this very helpful mate
Agree with all comments on you never stop learning,, Love the way Ross makes it sound so easy to ride, Concentrate @ teach at the same time! Just try going out for a ride and doing a running commentary as if your teaching somebody,,,You will be very surprised how difficult it is!
