Demonstration Qualitative Interview - how it should be done

Interviewer shows good quality of attention and listening, uses open questions and shows she values the answers, is aware respondent might be sensitive about admitting her needs, and guides her gently into offering realistic suggestions. Used with permission www.go2itech.org.

Another great video, especially as a companion to the prior one that depicts a horrible interview. My only critique is that a number of the questions that the interview asked are structured as yes/no questions. Yes, the informant provides answers that are more than yes or no but nonetheless, I like to caution students to avoid these kinds of questions. For example: "can you tell me how things have changed" you might say. "that's interesting, how have things changed." This can become obnoxious if overdone but give people's propensity to default to yes/no questions, it probably provides a good starting point.

great interview, I like the fact that she made the nurse comfortable to express herself even though she might be kind of dodgy to answer some questions.

Interviewer didn't give participant an opportunity to answer what she didn't like about the training. Does this show she wasn't listening? Or that she didn't really want to know the answer?

Wow, the a really great video actually I'm going to conduct collecting my data using qualitative research and I was thinking that maybe you can help me out with my questions. Sometimes I find it difficult to form a type of formal question that will keep the base of the conversation to an important point for data analysis. Thanks

This is not an actual interview, it has many pitfalls starting by normalizing stage to get consent.

I'm just wondering whether this is a real or a staged interview. I have done many interviews, but I have never had an interviewee respond anything as concise and to the point as this interviewee. So I would guess that this interview is staged for demonstration purposes. That is fine, since there is still a lot to be learned from the way the interviewer handles the situation, but it would still be useful to inform viewers that "real" interviewees are likely to respond differently and that interviewers should not be discouraged if their interviewees don't give them ready-to-print answers.

i have these kinda problems. I don't know that my questions are good enough or not! and they can lead me to the purpose of my research or not! it's really hard. i lost my confidence!

When she said that I was like I really dislike when researchers do that although it's a form of active listening.

It's not because of her being a nurse. She said interesting because she told her she is working as a nurse for 12 years.
