My husband recently purchased one of these units. It does everything the video shows and more. It has helped him with some very heavy blocks of wood. It is a real back saver. The quality of construction is very good. There was a plastic knob damaged in shipping and when he called about a replacement one was sent to replace it promptly. it was great to get to talk to a real person on the other end who knew what he was doing. Great product!

Hi Fred, Last November (I think), I bought a model 3801 after speaking to you about the feasibility of plumbing it into the receiver on my truck - You mentioned there was a video to that effect on the website & that helped. So I got all the stuff together to rig it up & then.....it snowed, & snowed. All the bucked maple rounds I planned on twitching out of a shallow ravine have been buried until now. Making a short story, long, I had at it yesterday & was amazed at how much effort I saved by using the Gorillabac. I attached a photo showing the eighth out of nine rounds I hauled up with the last just visible (down the embankment) above the truck's taillight in the picture. At 64 years of age, there was no way I could have muscled that maple up the embankment. The winch motor didn't warm up to the touch at all. Best, Mark Harrisville, NH

Michael Warfel9 months ago I have a firewood business and split a lot of hardwood, Oak, Ash, Beech, Locust, Hickory, Etc. I have skid loaders with grapple buckets but could never load the rounds into the cradle of the splitter. You can purchase an expensive splitter with a log lift but you still need to get the rounds to the splitter. With the Gorillaback log lift you can not only lift the rounds into the cradle you can also drag the rounds to the splitter. I used to have to use a chainsaw and quarter the round before I could split them. Not only was that time consuming, it was also hard on the chains. I have a Troy Bilt 33Ton splitter. The only modification I had to make was I had to cut a notch in both of the top plates and cut the one end of the cradle down a little bit. Used a grinder with a cutting wheel and worked great. It only took me about 15 minutes tops to complete the modification. The Gorillaback Log Lift not only saves my back it has also sped up the wood processing time which equates to more profit. I would recommend the Gorillaback Log Lift to anybody that cuts firewood for personal or business use. Great product and well worth the money!

The fact that it holds the log making it possible to nibble off small pieces is a huge labor saver never mind the bending over and straining motions

I hear ya! Got Gorillabac too. 2x the wood, no pain but like it said, plenty of fun... Im a barn fab guy who likes the heavy duty build, quality welds and finish. Quickly figured out how easy it was to spin the log around for the reverse cut on the nasty knots. No longer f!$5din around on my knees. Have to try the pickup deal next.

Fred, that's a great system you built there. Especially like the ring and screw setup...very fast and efficient. I was thinking of going that direction when I built mine, but decided to build the side lift first and it really works well for the way I stage the rounds I bring in from the woods. For the most part I simply push/roll rounds with my feet. In my seventies, so I avoid bending when ever possible. On another subject, listening to your engine, sounds like you have a fuel and or governor issue as it sounds like its surging a bit...may be the audio on your vid, but I pick things like that up being a retired Caterpillar mechanic. I know you were demonstrating how it will drag a round to the splitter, but your wasting battery power when the round was we round and you could have just rolled it over to the splitter. I have a gorillabac to and it the round will roll, I simply roll it to the splitter then just lift it up. Saves the battery power and wear and tear in the winch. I love my gorillabac log lift.

Right on! There are many options Man. Some logs like the demo do roll easy and certainly a better way when possible.. some backs don't allow the rolling effort action. Too many years of hard work on this ol' back. Thank you for the positive feedback as it goes a long way in sharing the word on" the only log lift that drags, lifts, positions and holds you wood while splitting or loading into a pickup truck".

what would be handy is a wheel barrel or a yard kart next the splitter to keep from picking the splits off the ground that's what i do

Right on David, handling the wood as few times as possible is "working smarter, not harder"!!! Position the pick-up, ATV or trailer near the log splitter to easily toss the wood directly into the bed. Because Gorillabac does not require to be attached to a vehicle, your method eliminates a lot of work. I will include a video of this on the channel too. Please subscribe. Thank you for the tip!!!

that splitter will split vertically so you dont even need to lift the logs just set it up in the vertical position for very large rounds and use it horizontally for the small logs

Dear Gadget, Check out the vertical method at kzread.info/dash/bejne/c596xbd8cc2WaaQ.html Yes, you may not have a bad back yet..... well take a look. Then, check out the Gorillabac system which pulls large or irregularly shaped logs to the splitter. It then effortlessly lifts them onto the splitter. And wait, there is more!!!! it holds the log for the next cut as well as allows you to quickly reposition for the next cut. "GET YOUR WOOD UP" and get off your knees while splitting. gadgetkeith Pushing big chunks into a splitter in the vertical position sux and kills the back. Personally I'd trust a set of log tongs but that is just personal preference. But the winch is many times better than pushing big irregular pieces into a splitter and I have split literal tons of hardwoods in 2feet and bigger around.

Phil, Good comment, thank you for sharing your experience! As you have seen, Gorillabac log lifter system works to eliminate the back issues and injury associated with running a splitter up to a 36 inch round. We started out using log tongs and discovered several short comings of their use when effectively handling logs for splitting. These are some of the advantages of the Gorillabac Grip- Screw Ring versus traditional log tongs: *Provides penetration into the log which prevents tongs from falling off while pulling or changing direction of pull. * Can remain in the log during splitting to hold large logs. * Provides a safety handle to hold the log and keep your hands out of harms way while splitting. * Provides quick and easy spin around of the log for those difficult second cuts."Get Your Wood Up" With Gorillabac pull, lift and position tools.

Instead of selling a product and clearly advertising for horizontal splitters and dissing someone on the verticle idea perhaps yall should be seeing a possible oppertunity to make a verticle gorillabac splitter set up? Hmm hmmmm

Mike, We went with these types of splitters being run in the horizontal position for ergonomic reasons. It is better to work from waist level than be on your hands and knees or crouched over stressing your body to position the wood. Compare these two videos for reference. kzread.info/dash/bejne/c596xbd8cc2WaaQ.html , kzread.info/dash/bejne/g4dqt9iBgrmrg7Q.html . Is is painful to watch as compared to using the Gorillabac and the splitter in the horizontal position.

The Gorillabac log lift clamps to the bottom "I" beam . Gorillabac fits most vertical / horizontal splitters. Below is a list of splitters that have been verified. There are several other store brand names like County Line, Forest King and others that are very similar to the splitters listed below. Gorillabac also attaches to several 3 point hitch splitters as well as being able to attach to a pickup truck or class III hitch receiver. Thank you for the tip on verbiage as well as the tips gained from your video's Bob. We heat with a forced air wood stove that blows the hot air into heating system. It can take the larger cuts. If over 15 degrees outside we feed it with 6 pieces 3x a day. The large chunks work well keeping a good bed and long even burn. We do split smaller sticks for others and call it firewood too.

Yes, Fisher is a great stove. It is really special that you have that stove. We had one when we lived in Maine. It was a big front load with the air knobs on both doors and hinge one side. Burned great and never warped, as it was the heaviest duty stove I have ever had. Like some of the wood we split, the Ol'Fisher took two men and a boy to move it. It was also the first stove that I fit with a hood and in line fan to pull air from the basement and blow it up into the family room on the main floor.
