This is great. I hate my pea gravel around the pool because it traps so much dirt and debris and is annoying on the feet. Will try to convince the hubby to take on this project :)

Another way is to use a torch like you burn weeds and use a scrapper. They come up really easy with heat

Did you apply anything prior to removal?

The previous owner had this installed in the garage. Hate this stuff. You take one step in the garage barefoot and you've got about 12 pebbles stuck to your foot. I've thought about placing interlocking tiles directly over it, but I'd really like to get it completely removed.

I have this tiny pea gravel on my patio - roughly 20-25 years old - and it's been eroded by rain, sprinklers, etc. It's loose and dirty. My husband removed all of it from our front walkway at the expense of his hands and shoulder (needed surgery). We want to remove from our back patio now. I'm researching online on how to remove it, but I can't find anything. Is there any other way besides utilizing this equipment to remove it? I did see epoxy solvent, but before we begin, I'd like to have an inkling that it might work. Any thoughts? Thank you.

Im going to use Acetone to dissolve the resin spray it on cover it with plastic. A bit messy but this chipping is not easy and the rental is quite expensive.

how badly did you hate yourself after doing this? Mine is in great shape it's just ugly as hell. Was thinking about just doing pavers over the top but i know taking it all the way out is really the right way to go.

Where did the cart come from? Was that also rented and did you have to buy the attachment yourself?

Ahhhhhh I feel your pain here. I have the same stuff around my pool, on my back patio, and the sidewalk connecting the two. What'd you end up replacing it with?

Hi. I'm one of the people involved in the project, a family member put this video up. We ended up putting down river rock again, but hired a professional to do it. The river rock is nice in that it doesn't show anything, but after just over a year it could already use another coat of epoxy to freshen it up, which is a little disappointing.

We just purchased a home that has this on the interior. I know you said it is a moderate sized patio, but would you be able to tell me about how many square feet it was? Thank you!

I'd guess about 1000 square feet.

Hello, where can I find this exact kind of demolition hammer to rent? I see that Home Depot doesn't have anything like this. I too am removing a Chattahoochee Patio that surrounds an in ground pool. David

Hi. I'm one of the people involved in the project, a family member put this video up. We got it from Home Depot in Clearwater Florida. Maybe different stores in different areas don't carry it. It cost about $200 for the day to rent, that was with the cart it was on and there was an extra chisel blade. You definitely need a few people to switch out because it is hard on the body but it makes quick work of it. At first we tried doing some by hand with the big scraper in the video but that only worked on areas where it was already quite loose.

@@johnegan1562 What did you guys do at the base of the screen structure? We just did this process as well and we don't quite know what to do with the epoxied stone that sits underneath the aluminum cage structure (where screen porch walls meet the ground). If we remove underneath, there would be structural gap from cage to underlaying concrete slab. How did you deal with that?

@@jessicap1414 Our screen frame was bolted directly to the concrete and the river rock just ran up it. I'm not sure how you would handle it if someone had put the screen framing on top of the river rock. I don't think there would be anyway to get it out so I suppose you'd just have to try to get as clean of an edge as possible where the old stuff is chiselled away. As long as the new finish is thick like pavers or new river rock it would hide it, but if it was just a painted on coating that wouldn't work so well.
