Demigod - Slumber of Sullen Eyes
Музыка
Demigod was founded in Loimaa, Finland 1990. Band released independently one rehearsal demo at the founding year. Next year (1991) they released the (in)famous "Unholy Domain" demo and another rehearsal demo. "Unholy Domain" was later ripped-off by American Seraphic Decay label and released as a split album with another finnish DM band, Necropsy 1991. 1992 Demigod released it's first full-length through Drowned productions "Slumber of Sullen Eyes". The album gain huge respect in the underground DM scene and Demigod became one of the most famous DM bands to come from Finland. After this, band recorded few promos, introducing the more aggressive and thrash- like style of the band. Demos had good feedback, but still the band decided to go to a temporary split-up. 1999 They were back and made a promo tape of the old thrash demos, they recorded after "Slumber ...", and got signed to the famous Spanish Xtreem records. For there on, they have relesed "Shadow Mechanics" 2002 (good album) and "Let Chaos Prevail" 2007 full-lengths ,and hopefully, much more in the future .This is the title track of their first Full-length.
Lyrics:
I shall befall thee
In the sullen halls of dark oblivion
In an evintide of abysmal grief
Hybrid form of life
Hidden from the immortal
Your soul will burn through time
The dark realm dwells in no light
Dismal dreams of lives forgotten
In the visions of my slumber
They lie silent in chasms
The bleeding eyes of sorrow
The gathering of miserable beings
Grievous existence underwent to the end
In blackness they mourn
The souls of sorrow now bleed in tears
I shall befall thee
In the sullen halls of dark oblivion
In an evintide of abysmal grief
Hybrid form of life
Hidden from the immortal
Your soul will burn through time
The dark realm dwells in no light
Dismal dreams of lives forgotten
In the visions of my slumber
They lie silent in chasms
The bleeding eyes of sorrow
Frozen eyes gazing to stillness
Beckoning into the dark
Summoned to the vale of tears
To feel the appearance of grief
Slumber of sullen eyes (repeat)

"Slumber of Sullen Eyes" is perhaps the best DEATH Metal album ever written.
Saludos.

Absolute classic! Very underrated!
I don't know about you, but I find every era of metal (including now) has something interesting to offer. I do however, wish there was a metal scene in my area like you described.

There is a famous bands and then there is a good bands...
I´m glad I still have the first issue on vinyl and CD on drowned records from Madrid Spain.
This album is something that never gets old, you can listen to it 10^5 times and it only gets better listen after listen. I suggest you to listen to this loud with your stereo, you'll notice a powerful amount of bottom tones that will drive you insane. Great lyrics.
Yes, I have it already. A true masterpiece of Nordic death metal \m/
Para mi el mejor disco de Death Metal de la historia. Para otros no lo será, para mí si.

I knew these guys when they were a demo band. One of my old favorites. Awesome shit.
thanks for uploading. totally amazing track.
one of the best death metal albums ever.
Lovely, the old school brutal underground.....
Respect from Belgium
My new favorite Demigod song after Perpetual Ascent (demo version). It struck me about three hours ago, when I was on my way home from a guitar clinic, how fucking awesome this song is. Especially the ending.
yo si cabecee esta cancion, ahora la cabeceo con mi hijo!!!!
Tack så mycket Heja Sverige ! Some pretty damn great bands on that side of the gulf aswell
Classic Finnish death metal rules!
this is a jewel of album...I got the vinyl directly from the band late in 90s...and is still with me...remember that Esa Linden, sent me their "Unholy Domain" Demo plus some killer rehearsals...good memories!!!
Yes And too good, they came back 1998, and have released two full-lengths after that. They are back in Business. Hope I'll see these guys live \m/
Their guitar tone is sick!
Aun oigo esta excelente musica
90's music, the times for me...
mesmerisingly good!
man is amazing brother
Yes, but many of these new underground Death metal bands are, in many respects , the early 90's all over again. And for me, that's a positive thing.
Awesome
\m/ this is one of the few albums that are completely perfect as in a 100% PERFECTION
Watched them live in Eskilstuna 1991! One of the best deathmetal gigs i've ever seen! Fuckin chaos^^
Thanks, I guess. I also knew Desultory, God Macabre (when they were Macabre End), Necrophobic, and Phantasm (Tony Brandt was once a very good friend of mine). Sometimes I really miss those days.
I'd try a band called "Death". You've probably heard of them. REALLY GOOD! Also, try Dismember, Grave, Entombed, Morbid Angel, Vader and Unleashed. That's pretty good stuff overall.
The old death metal.....
Everybody has to worship this album now.
According to "Choosing Death" book and some other sources I remember, most of the members were really into hc punk and especially the grindcore band Repulsion had a tremendous impact on their music. The original component added by Nihilist ( Leif Cuzner to be precise ) to the Swedish DM sound, however, was the very fat buzzing sound. Otherwise, it's pretty much D-beat hc punk. I have that compilation too, but I haven't yet read the booklet at all. I really should civilize myself
fantastic album, classic DM!
classic
whenever i think of demigod i think of the intro to this brutal song
great song first time to hear this band too \m/
This! Seriously I hate people who first of all limit themselves and then expect others to do the same.
CHeez, You right HOW THE HELL HAS THIS SLIPPED ME. Well, that is too bad. Thanks for straigthening me up.
SICK
Pure magic
This video has the most wiews of all Demigod videos on youtube so I comment this here. Demigod is back! They are one of the bands it this years Tuska festival in Finland and they play 29. June. Spread the word mateys.
@Tweenythepriest My first death metal band was Bolt Thrower. Album was Those Once Loyal. At first i listened to it because i didn't want to let a friend down, then i loved the guitar walls they send flying at you. The vocals came after that. It also helped that i once used to listen to metalcore and deathcore.
Da bomb!!!
this song has a perfect atmosphere - this is how death metal should be played! love this album!
@P4nzerk93 Thanks man! THey got all demigod albums + t-shirt. I also found purteanance and depravity albums. Thaks again.
ME was really sludgy and distorted. Their guitar strings must have been hanging at their knees. I think they only put out or two EPs, but on the one I had, the music was mid-paced and a little slower, picking up at the right moment to break into a mosh tempo. I didn't know them well, and I think I bought their EP from Relapse. Keep in mind, that was 14 years ago. I did find the band pics I was sent, though. I have two of Desultory, Pax Mortis, Depravity, Centotaph, Misanthrope, Demigod!
This is the first song ive heard by them and it kicks ass! i really wanna learn about the development of metal in Finland and sweden now, who influenced this music.
thanks, i'll check into them as soon as i get the chance to o: and i found out behemothis more blackened death metall
great song & great album. the split lp with necropsy was also good. 5*****
a great obscure finnish song with 60000 views what the hell?
@FDL84 Eucharist, Morbid Angel, At The Gates. Older bands usually, but a lot of good new ones too!
Very god, fucking brutal music!!!!!!!
02:20 badass moment
@ImmortalConcept Dead Congregation, Teitanblood, Grave Miasma, Ilsa, Swallowed, Ignivomous, Repugnant, Obliteration. The list goes on.

Someone please remaster this
XysmicExecration You got me Into Adramelech, Demigod Thank you so much! I Bought Terror Of A Thousand Faces ! Great Album And I Also Have Talked to Jari laine Of Adramelech On Facebook.
people have been conscious of their impending doom since forever
@ImmortalConcept I know what you mean, KZread is like my ultimate source of music. Internet makes the difference.
i've heard of death, morbid angel, and dismember, but never actually checked me out.. ty for the suggestions ;p i will try them
@P4nzerk93 no problem, really, It's a pleasure to help a metal mate :)
🤘🖤🇵🇹
I can't see that you have any reason to worry about being non-civilized, you seem more than well-read and incredibly accurate when it comes to discussing this subject : ). Always to discuss these things with other people, ut the funniest part is that the only DM genre I'm actually fond of is old Melo-Death, especially At The Gates. Just think it's interesting to learn how the, probably, most rebellious musical genre ever arose.
4:57 till the end is so cool!
Wow, you got this on tape ! ? Well anyway, Spanish Xtreem records has made a re-release of this. You should get it from their website, if I am not mistaken.
For those saying there is no good death metal nowadays check out Grave Miasma and Asphyx just to name a few.
Does anybody know a shop that sells these dm classics? Not the expensive original ones but re-releases? Its so goddamn hard to find any older dm albums from regular music stores. I live in Finland. if it matters.
@TheMilfman7 dude u have no idea how simillar we both feel
vittu,niin, kaunista,
Well, Mayhem's original singer (Dead) was in a short-lived Swedish death metal band called Morbid, where one of Nihilists (Entombed-predecessors) first bassists later joined. So, it is a bit complicated, but Mayhem's original singer was actually from Sweden : ).
And The Chasm.
Yeah, that's the way it happend . . .sadly. I've been thinking of uploading some stuff from Demilich.
You telling me. Mine isn't actually pro-computer era, but for some ergonomic reason or for a mere decoration, the keyboard is curved, and since I am not used to this design, Im finding it really hard to type even one word without looking on which key exactly my fingers are on. SOME CRAZY-ASS KEYBOARD But yes, it has been a real pleasure to talk. I am ready to continue this discussion via pm, but I would really like to preserve this comment section for comments related to Demigod.
@TheMilfman7 Amen.
@TruthINgorE Immolation for the fucking win!
They had a demo and an EP, they were supposed to release a new EP through Relapse, but that never happened. They released their full legth, though, as God Macabre. Depravity is awesome!! Did you ever meet those guys? How did you meet any of these people? Were you in a band?
demigod rules !!! best finnish band! perfect metal of death
fuckin great song
The whole Album needs a rerelease on vinyl!

re-re-release on punched cards, mono, of corpse
That is true. But Morbid was a Black metal or a Thrash/Black metal band, however you want to put it, but it certainly wasn't Death metal, and I don't know about it's influences towards Nihilist's style of playing punkish D-beat Death metal, although Cederlund was featured on the both bands line-ups. And hey, wasn't there a very obscure Norwegian punk, thrash or death metal band called Vomit or something (?), that actually also shaped Nihilist's style.
@heresyify Agreed.
porra!
hey i need a list of thetop 10 death metal bands and three songs each
Edge of Sanity (old stuff!), Vader (all!), Morbid Angel (I favour the stuff with David Vincent), Dismember, Carcass (the first three albums), Autopsy (all!!!), Banished, At the Gates (all!!!), Entombed (old stuff!), Unleashed (album I, II & III), Napalm Death, Terrorizer, Sinister, Suffocation, Grave, Disgorge (Mex), Mortician, Purgatory, Sepultura, Obituary, Hypocricy (old stuff!), Gorefest (old stuff), Death (!!!!), Asphyx(!!!!), Bolt Thrower, Repulsion, Necrophagist, Deicide (old stuff!)
@That667Guy Behemoth's old old stuff like more black stuff? cause im not a big fan of their early stuff. and for CC i think Evisceration was a little bit of a let down but i love Kill. Hopefully they'll pick it up with their next album
I do worship Demigod Slumber Of Sullen Eyes, dont You????
@alucard1173 Start will Bolt Thrower, Nile, Necrophagist, Death, Skinless, Fleshmould, Carcariass, Carcass, Demigod, Dying Fetus. Listen to anything they did. Don't be lazy. You'll see if you dislike it.
Its sound very fuckin good! Old death \m/
@chelseasmile696 Okay, I see what you meant in that last comment. Great death metal displayed here.
Corpsegrinder from Cannibal Corpse loves Hank Williams III. Is he not metal? You should tell him that to his face, like an actual man.
@youngrambosbychiefkeef
6 жыл бұрын
actually, hank 3 released a doom/sludge metal album, and it's pretty good. kzread.info/dash/bejne/nnelz9OwfLXfdKg.html
You can pretty much listen to one track from any deathcore album and it'll sum up the genre. Probably the most two dimensional music genre out there. There are literally millions of death metal bands out there, some that play straight up DM, others that play crossovers (I'm quite partial to sludgy or Southern influenced DM like Birds of Prey). Bands like Demigod are a good place to start, Death, Malevolent Creation, Morbid Angel, Cannibal Corpse, Dying Fetus try listening to the old stuff first.
Not bad. A few good moments here and there, I'll have to pick the Xtreem reissue of this up just for the fuck of it.
@XysmicExecration Necropsy and Pestigore are my 2 favorite Finnish death/grind bands
@andrewskaterrr Yeah, Behemoth did Black Metal based on Pagan beliefs and we can only hope for a good Cannibal Corpse album
@XysmicExecration "You can't overdie, you can't overdry."
GREAT FUCKING ALBUM !!!!!! \m/
