Gender plays a huge role in how people view mental illness. Studies show men are less likely to get professional help, because doing so would make them seem weak. For a man to be weak he is stepping outside of the capitalist masculine ideal, and in a way, losing his identity. One of the biggest risk factors for suicide is being a man for this reason. However research also shows if someone has a mental illness not typical to their gender, they are less stigmatized, because it is more likely that something else caused it.

Google her she is an American singer/actor who started on barney and friends she then went to Disney and stared in camp rock and camp rock 2 she also had her own tv show sonny with a chance when she was younger people would call her fat but it really started when she was about 3 when she looked down and realised she was not as thin as everyone else she went on and starved herself she also started to self harm when she was 11 she hid this up until she was 15 or 16 when a photo was taken on the red carpet and you could see her scars her label blamed it on bracelets but up until then nobody knew not even her parents when she was 18 she was on tour with the jonas brothers she lost her rage and hit one of her friends and back up dancer her parents held an intervention and she finally agreed to go to rehab until a few years after she only spoke about her depression and being bi polar she never spoke about drugs and alcohol when she spoke out she said she need cocaine every 30 minutes
@ciararoberts6898
8 жыл бұрын
She then went on to say that she hated being called a role model while she was on Disney because every night she would be partying and getting drunk she now leads a much healthier life and as a bunch of hits she is an amazing role model and she is only 23 she is very happy even though she knows she will struggle with her eating disorder for the rest of her life I know this was a very long reply but this is only the basics she has gone into so much more detail in interviews I know all of this because I look up to her I've smoked done drugs self harmed starved myself I'm also bi-sexual but she really showed me I can get through it I am so proud of my self and I'm proud to be a lovatic ( her fan) x
