I agree with your salut to El Hadj Diouf. However, the first griot is clueless and resulted to telling false history. He lost me the moment he started bad mouthing the King of Siin - Maad a Sinig Kumba Ndoofeen fa Maak Juuf. I wouldn't have mind if his bad mouthing was based on facts, but it was not even based on facts, but lies and propaganda. This guy did not even know that the King of Siin entertained Lat Joor in Siin for 2 months and that the Seereer people of Siin gave Lat Joor a big welcome when he came to Siin seeking refuge. This false narrator of history did not also know that the King of Siin just came out of a war against the French and couldn't afford to be lending his men to anyone just so they can go and reclaim their throne in Cayor thereby leaving his kingdom defenseless. The King of Siin was facing 2 external threats: jihadists like Maba and the French, although he himself regarded the French as the greater enemy and wanted a Senegambian alliance (including Maba) to get rid of the French. Unfortunately, Maba did not want to work with none-Muslims. In fact, the Battle of Longandeme 1859 was the most brutal battle by the French on Senegambian soil. They waged war against the King of Siin and the Seereer people of Siin. It was the most brutal because that was the first time the French decided to use canon against Senegambian kings who refused to yield to their demands. It wa a battle also filled with vandetta. The French wanted revenge for the humiliating defeat they suffered few months earlier from the ing of Siin and his first cousin Sanmoon Faye who later became Maad a Sinig (King of Siin). In fact, the French were so enraged about their huimiliating defeat, they gathered the Wolof and Lebou community to help them waged war against the Seereer. And as to how governor Fairdherbe managed to get the Wolof and Lebou people to help him wage war against the Seereers, he told them: "You are French, and we are going to get reparations for wrongs these people [i.e. the Seereer people ] have done to us." The King of Siin lost many men there. And just after that battle , the king of Siin was engaged in another bitter struggle against the French - i..e. the sovereignity of Joal. In fact, he would be assassinated there (Joal) by the French in August 1871 - the moment he entered Joal to deal with the French for the last time. The griot in this video has no idea what he is talking about. This video should be pulled down and a proper documentary/tribute made about Semou Jimit who was a very interesting king - until the day he died by shotting himself in the head with revolver. He was a very interesting Maad Saluum (King of Saluum) before, during and after his reign. This video does not do him justice. There is nothing in this video that is useful to any historian or history student. This video should be pulled down and a proper and more fitting video made about the life of Maad Saluum Semou Jimit Juuf. All one gets from this video is them telling us that Maad Saluum Semou was a student of Maba and that he was a great man but they never told how and why. They didn't even go into his family history and genealogy. The extent of his genealogy are his parents. It is as if they didn't know his ancdestry or line of descent. Even I know this. How can you go on national TV and talk about the a historical figure like Semou Jimit without telling us his background etc? Terrible! I always enjoyi watching the Demb shows, but this by far has to be the most useless video I've enver had the displeasure of watching.

Yena mu na yaha derr! The first narrator Meissa Mboup was spreading false history and I'm sick of people who know nothging about Senegambian history spreading false history. Maad a Sinig Kumba Ndoofeen fa Maak Juuf did not refuse Damel Lat Joor like the way Meissa claimed. When Lat Joor was defeated by the French at the Battle of Loro on 8 January 1864, the King of Siin -Kumba Ndoofeen fa Maak granted him asylum. Lat Joor was well received in Siin and he stayed in Siin under the protection of Kumba Ndoofeen fa Maak. In fact,. Lat Joor himself used to refer to Kumba Ndoofeen fa Maak as "uncle". He remained in Siin for two months and was well looked after by the King of Siin. The Seereer people of Siin also gave him a warm welcome liked they did his predecessor and El-Hadj Umar Taal when he visited Siin. Lat Joor even had some babies named after him in Siin during his stay. Lat Joor Juuf (or Lat Dior Diouf), the son of the future king of Siin Maad a Sinig Semu Maak Juuf (nephew of Maad a Sinig Kumba Ndoofeen fa Maak Juuf) was named after Lat Joor Joob. Even the French used to refer to Kumba Ndoofeen fa Maak Juuf as "King of Kings" because he was well known for granting asylum to every Senegambian king or prince who had problems with the French and ran to his kingdom (Siin) seeking asylum. The Senegambian royal families were all related and Kumba Ndoofeen fa Maak saw them as part of his family and offered them refuge everytime they had problems with the French. Even the French hated him for this. The first narrator in this video is narrating false history. After staying in Siin for two months after his defeat and exile by the French at the Battle of Loro on 8 January 1864, Lat Joor later asked Kumba Ndoofeen fa Maak to lend him some of his army so that he could regain his throne in Kajoor. During that time, the King of Siin just recently came out of a very nasty and bitter war against the French at the Battle of Longandeme (1859) where the King of Siin lost many of his men. That was the first and most brutal battle on Senegambian soil because it was the first time the French had used canon against Senegambian kings resisting colonialism. In that battle, the King of Siin lost many of his men and relatives, even he was seriously injured. Having just came out of that war, the Seereer King of Siin (Kumba Ndoofeen fa Maak) was also involved in a bitter struggle against the French regarding the soverignity of Joal (one of the principalities of Siin). In fact, he would be assassinated few years later in Joal by the French (in 1871). Therefore, the King of Siin had very limited trained soldiers to lend to Lat Joor to go and regain his throne. As such, the King of Siin was unable to lend his soldiers to Lat Joor because had he done so, that would have weakned Siin's defenses, as there won't be a trained army protecting the country (Siin). Also remember that, Kumba Ndoofeen was fighting two external forces: the Muslim Marabouts who wanted to launch jihad in Siin, and the French who wanted to colonise the country and subjugate its people. Kumba Ndoofeen was the first Pan-Africanist on Senegambian soil. He even wanted all the Senegambian kings including Maba Jahou Ba to poll their armies together and get rid of the French because the saw the French as the greater enemy. Before going to war with Maba Jahou, the King of Siin was well aware of what Maba's was doing in other countries, such as capturing and selling slaves and launching jihads. Despite all that, he didn't view Maba as the bigger threat. Instead, he viewed the Europeans colonialists as the greater enemy and wanted them out of the Senegambia region. He even threatened the French to kill every single white person if they do not conceed to his requests regarding the sovereignity of Joal and Fajuut. I am sick and tired of people narrating false history to cover up their own inadequacies or that of their heroes. Let's be honest, the reason why people like this are peddling the same lies against Kumba Ndoofeen Fa Maak Juuf is because 1) Kumba Ndoofeen was a Seereer, 2) he followed Seereer spirituality (tat Roog); and 3) he defeated and killed their hero Maba Jahou Ba - the biggest jihadist and enslaver of 19th century Senegambia history. Maba's slave trading activities were well documented in the Gambia. You will not hear any one of them speak about Maba's slave trading activities. And let's be honest, Maba was not just launching jihads to propagate Islam. He also wanted power and to built an empire of his own. These hypocrites and narrators of false history do not want the truith to come out, but the truth will come out. The reason why Saluum is given more pages in history books despite also being a Seereer kingdom like Siin is because Saluum was more cosmopolitan and Maba lived there at Nioro du Rip. The Siin on the other hand was rooted in old Seereer tradition and was very conservative. Islam did not penetrate it unlike Saluum. Throughout his life, Kumba Ndoofeen fa Maak offered protection and asylum to many Senegambian kings and princes who faced persecution from the French after their defeated. He ensured that, all of them were well received and well looked after in Siin. After all, they were his extended family. Even El-Hadj Umar Taal was well received in Siin when he stayed over for 3 nights in the land of Siin. In fact, it was after El-Hadj Umar Taal's visited that he made his famous proclamation that "the noble qualities are found in Seereer countries, though they only lack Islam." He also went on to tell Maba never to attack Siin. Despite his generousity to the royal families of the other kingdoms in the Senegambia (e.g. Jolof, Kajoor, Baol, Waalo, Saluum, aand Futa Toro), none of them except Saluum (a fellow Seereer kingdom) came to his defense in his darkest hour of need when Maba launched jihad his land. Jolof and Kajoor fought with Maba and the rest folded their arms and watched just like the French who not only cut off the Joal route to the Gambia - thereby preventing the King of Siin from going go to Gambia to buy arms from the British (like Maba was doing) in order to defend his kingdom, they did not want to get involved. Despite all the problems Kumba Ndoofeen fa Maat faced from the French who hated him, as well as from his fellow African brothers and sisters who wanted to Islamize or enslaved his people, Roog (God) was on his side at the Battle of Fandane-Thiounetioune 18 July 1867. His victory, despite his insufficient resources is a testiment that sometimes justice prevail. The land of Siin will forever be grateful to Saluum for coming to its aid in its darkest hour. Siin called and its fellow Seereer kingdom answered against a common enemy. Also, I am somewhat disappointed with this video. The Demb programmes are usually very good and I was expecting a lot in this video. Not only did the interviewees kept repeating the same thing - that Semu Jimit Juuf was a Quranic student of Maba, and that he was a brave man which we all knew, none of them went deep into his family history and genealogy, his coronation, his reign and death. Semu Jimit was a very interesting king. However, the interviewees provided nothing new about the man (Semu). I could not believe that the only information given about his ancestors was limited to his mother and father. It was very disappointing to watch. Don't these people know his ancestors? Absolutely shocking!
