Do you reckon that the pilots knew about the flap issue just after departure? Listen to the ATC dialogue - the captain said that it was stuck on the way out. Would seem safer to burn the fuel in flight, land lighter, and on a longer runway (SFO is about 1,700 feet longer than Boston Logan). The travelling public doesn’t realise that stuff like this happens alot. I am surprised that the pilot requested emergency vehicles in fact.

Bullshit lol. I have no clue what they do in the maintenance facility in ATL, but of all the airlines I fuel at my job (SW, AA, AAY, POE, MSR, AIC, TAP, BEL, AF, Q6, OAE, FDY, and of course DL), I’ve only ever had to deal with MEL’s and INOP stickers on Delta planes. Just last Thursday I had to fuel a Delta a320 with an INOP sticker. What’s also weird is how old their airbuses and 737s are… think they need a refurbishment.

Delta has the highest numbers of canceled or delayed flights in the US. Considering most of their canceled or delayed flights are from maintenance or crew staffing issues and NOT from weather related incidents (as it is for American, United, and Southwest) I think it's clear to see they are not a "well run machine". Their operations in Atlanta are incredible, that's obvious. But overall, they are fairly low in customer service and reliability scores.

As a 321 NEO Long Range captain (A321 253NX) I can say they are an excellent aircraft. My company uses them for Transatlantic travel between Europe and the US. They are a game changer in aviation terms as they operate so efficiently from a fuel point of view. We operate with a business class offering with full lie flat beds and an economy of 171 seats. 186 in total. They are the future when compared with the 757 which my company would have operated on the routes they now serve in the past. As for the flap issue encountered on this flight , it’s a non event for us pilots. It would only be a concern if operating into an airport with a short runway. SFO wouldn’t cause any such issues.

A little trick I learned last summer, when you’re on a flight, and you want to take a Timelapse video looking out the window, on most planes there’s a gap between the window and the shade. That gap is usually big enough for a phone to fit into. You just start your video, then you close the window shade with the phone in there, and you can take a video.

Strangest thing I ever saw was when my plane was landing in Zurich. An armored personnel carrier with what looked like a 20mm gun in the turret pulled up next to the plane and shadowed it all the way to the gate. I have no idea what that was intended for. Then while waiting for them to open the door, I thought I saw something odd in a nook underneath the terminal about 500 feet away. I THOUGHT it was some weird sort of moving elevator. When my eyes adjusted I was in shock. It was a full size German made Leopard tank! I knew that the country had all kinds of underground networks kind of like the famous Maginot Line. There are hidden bunkers, fallout shelters and mortar launchers that can pop up and spray the skies with mortar fire within minutes. But I tell you, it feels very very weird arriving at an airport and seeing a tank sitting in the shade. I have no idea if there was someone inside but I have no doubt it's all ready for immediate action if ze Germans decide to come! 😁 Even IF that was remotely possible, I wouldn't be concerned. The Alps made it impossible for Hitler's panzers to invade so it would mostly be an air assault. I know for a fact that Switzerland bought dozens and dozens of Stinger launchers from the US for air defense and the militia do train with dummy rounds on drone targets.

It's also worth noting that prior to this, BOS-SFO had been typically a domestic 757 for a few years since Delta One service went away on this route. It's not like it went straight from D1 to FC with the neo coming. Since Delta uses that 757 configuration for some international flights (marketed as Premium Select, most notably to KEF), I suspect that we will see this be a Premium Select seat in at least those cases. The neo will also get some 1-1 lieflat + 2-2 Premium Select (likely this seat) versions which will take over BOS-LAX from the D1 757s; it might not be that surprising to see them go on some Boston TATLs either, especially since BOS's configuration makes it difficult to operate 330s and 764s (to say nothing of 350s!) to Terminal A.

No one likes emergency anything when flying....so I like that even though it wasn't a problem, they let ATC know it could be and roll out the crews. SFO is not an easy airport to land at with OAK and SJC nearby plus smaller airports (San Carlos) close by. As for the A321neo, got a chance to fly from LAX to DAL last year on Alaska Airlines. They don't have anything like Delta's First setup. On the trip itself....always enjoy seeing my hometown featured (BOS), not just the airport as you flew over my old apartment.

With ATC, that's part of the job. If you can't "stay cool" you won't survive the job. I've listened to ATC recordings from one mega busy airport and the guy was having a VERY bad day. Pilots wouldn't listen to him, traffic was piling up on the inbound list, nobody available to relieve him. He cracked all kinds of light-hearted jokes while struggling to sort out the traffic. Amazing how he kept his nerves. Not a job for everyone. I'd have totally gray hair within six months!

Great video. I was on a United flight from ORD 2 LGA 4 years ago and the wheels didn't come down fully. They let us know, told us the absolute worst that would happen is we land on the belly, which they are trained to do, but not to be alarmed by the emergency vehicles. Same situation. I felt calm because they are professionals who know how to stick a landing. No one needed medical attention. BTW I like those biz seats, though do often take Jetblue cross country for the beds.

Jeb, as always your videos are great! I do think that Delta missed a great opportunity here, I'm glad that someone is finally doing something regarding domestic first class, and also thankful for the memory foam padding, HOWEVER they could've easily added leg support and a couple more inches of legroom. Considering I will probably loose my concierge key status at American, I would even consider switching to Delta.

Glad everything turned out okay, I kind of lowkey hope I end up on one of these non-threatening emergency flights for the fun of it lol, but maybe it's just me. Great review, looks like a fantastic product, somewhat similar to Turkish A321neo business which I tried and can attest to its greatness
