Used this monitor as a daily driver demo unit at work for about 3 months, courtesy of our Dell rep. Our security team loved it for the extremely customizable window controls through Dell Display Manager, but personally I ended up switching back to triple 27s with 1 in a vertical orientation. Bottomline... I think the sheer size of this monitor was just a bit overwhelming. It definitely has it's use cases and could bring great value to certain work streams. It's definitely not tuned for gaming... 100% professional use focus.

Hey Daniel, that's awesome you got to use it before public release. Which model of 27" monitor did you end up going with? Btw, did you just rotate them on the included stand/base or did you buy a special monitor arm for that? Yea the size is no joke, you have to plan and make sure you have a deep enough desk to use it comfortably. Agreed, this is meant for productivity, you can just use it in a pinch for other stuff.

I know your comment is a year old, but I’m in this search now. Have a 27” iMac I’m replacing due to its age. I run it at native resolution (5K scaled to 1440 I think). I’m frustrated trying to use one screen at home when I use dual 27” 1080p screens at work. I need real estate to multitask daily and one monitor is a struggle. Would a large 4K allow me that flexibility in this size that I do not have on my Mac or is dual screen just more productive than single regardless of size? I’m assuming I’d run the 4K 43” at its native resolution and scaling isn’t a big deal to me if it degrades quality a small amount, with the assumption my productivity would remain higher that way. Any thoughts? Really struggling with whether to dual monitor 27’s or to single monitor with a 43”. My gut is telling me no matter how large the screen is, productivity is just higher on dual screens where I can side-by-side two windows on each screen. But seeing the Dell divide the one screen like it did in the video has me wondering if that’s nearly as effective. What’s making me wonder is everyone complains about a divided 43” being only 1080p effectively on each divided section, but nobody mentions how low the resolution gets for each window on 1440p when windows are split across the screen. That too makes the effective resolution far less, so it becomes a moot point (I think). Appreciate your or anyone’s response.

From single cable from one PC you can partition the screen to up to 4 HFD smaller screens and windows sees it as 4 independent monitors. I've had a 43" 4k monitor for about 9 months now, and am a bit conflicted. It's great for coding, and for watching something while doing other tasks. But because it's not curved, the viewing angle at the edges mean needing to use custom window management to prevent windows getting within about 8-10px of the edge, as those pixels are not visible from a central viewing position. Clearly this depends on how close the panel is to the monitor surface, so it'll vary, but I'd love to see a 43" curved 16:9 display. The only very large curved display I know of is the Samsung Odyssey Ark, and its just too too expensive.

Hey DL, thanks for sharing your experience. Yea with a 43", you really have to figure out desk space and placement too. I had it on a decently deep desk to avoid rotating my neck left to right. Ultimately, I returned this monitor, but it was mostly because it didn't have HDR and I wasn't satisfied 100% satisfied with the contrast ratio. I went back to my 32" curved, but I kinda miss this monitor now for the screen real estate I had in editing apps. Yea the Samsung Odyssey Ark looks amazing, just too much for me too.

Hi Hervé LAND, you'd need a PC with Display Port for best performance, but HDMI will also work fine too. Newer laptops may not have these ports and may just use USB Type C for display purposes if they are low profile laptops. If possible, I always recommend getting a desktop for more performance and thermals. Any of the newer 30 or 40 series graphics cards from Nvidia will be perfectly fine. An i5 processor or higher will also be great to run a 4K display. My current Dell U3014 has the same pixel density, but it's pixel format is RGB and crystal clear. Do you notice any color fringing around normal / small text (e.g. code in Visual Studio / widget labels in DaVinci Resolve) when sitting say 75 cm from the screen? If text clarity is not "outstanding", can you suggest any 43" screen that might do better? thanks again!

Hey Nigel, thanks for watching! I didn't notice any color fringing around text, but I can test it out a bit more with small text and do a screen record to show you what I see on screen. I mostly notice the clarity difference when watching content, but I'm used to the Dell S3221QS, which has better pixel density. It looks like most 43" monitors fall in the 103 to 104 PPI range, so any other 43" monitor I recommend would be similar. If you're mostly using it for work and minimal content consumption, then it's probably great for your use case, but let me get back to you with a screen recording to show you the text in a variety of sizes. Your screen recording was exactly what I needed: from VLC media player I saved 3840 x 2160 snapshots, zoomed these to 100% on my current (2560 x 1600) Dell U3014, then got a near-perfect real-time side-by-side comparison. For my needs, text display looks near enough to identical, which is all I want. PS: for this screen recording, did you have ClearType enabled and tuned? Only question before proceeding... if other brands of 43" monitor are using the same IPS panel as this U4323QE, is the current Dell website price reasonable? Is their perfect pixel tax + delivery worth the extra few hundred? Hmm, yep. Thanks again for all your help!

  • @DemCrumblies

    Жыл бұрын

Hey Nigel, glad the recording was helpful! I didn't have ClearType on and tuned, but I just did it now, and I can't tell a very noticeable difference, the text still looks sharp enough. I don't think the other 43" monitor brands are also using Dell's panel. I meant to say that at 43", most brands also only offer 103 to 104 PPI, so it seems like the PPI is within spec for this size when looking at other brands. If you can get it for $1000 USD, it may be worth it if you need KVM, the front access USB ports, 90 W charging and would use the Dell Display Manager. This is a new monitor, so the $1000 price on sale is definitely not the lowest it will go, just a matter of if you can wait as long as it takes to drop again. I used this coupon code, so maybe try it on your end too: 10%OFFMONITOR Otherwise, any other 43" brand would likely do if you just need the larger screen size. For example, this LG 43" www.lg.com/us/monitors/lg-43un700-b-4k-uhd-led-monitor/reviews has HDR10, 4X HDMI ports, 1 DP port, remote control, and slightly higher peak brightness and it comes in at around $700 USD.

If you're coming from an OLED, these displays will really suck in comparison. My tv is a 65" C1 and these displays aren't in the same league. For productivity though, it will be fine. Btw, Dell puts in on sale throughout the year and if you chat with the right agent, you can get further discounts if you're lucky.

Hey HT, yea for the price, it would have been great to have more than 350 nits. I ended up returning it and going back to my Dell S3221QS 4K monitor because I really wanted HDR support. I do miss the screen size though because it made editing photos and videos easier for me. Hopefully the next generation of this monitor will have better specs, especially for the price. Some viewers have mentioned just buying a 43" LG C1 or LG C2 TV to use as a monitor. This is actually not a bad idea since the prices are similar and the LG C1 or C2 will have a vastly better viewing experience. Of course you'll lose the KVM features, PIP, PBP, etc., and there is the issue of OLED panel burn in. If I wasn't so worried about OLED panel burn in, I might consider the C1 or C2 for a single device monitor.

Hey MH, the only way I saw to split the output from one machine was through creating window zones / sections once you use a single input source. I'm not sure which laptop you have, but I think most laptops only have one output source, so you would likely only have one output source going to the monitor anyway. KVM would probably have to be for a different machine because when you go through the KVM wizard, it's meant for different devices. What kind of setup do you want to achieve? If I understand correctly, you want to have the screen split into 4 boxes, 3 boxes would be for your laptop alone, and one box for the PS5, is that correct? If that's correct, the only thing I can of is to have the PS5 as PIP and set PIP to the largest size. Or to use PBP. I don't think you can split the single monitor input to just take up 3 boxes since it's still one input source. I don't think the monitor can see virtual desktops or similar things as separate input sources since it's still just one output cable from the laptop to the monitor.

I'm thinking that as long as you have three separate cables to three input sources on the monitor, it should split them fine and leave you with the 4th window for the PS5, but I'd confirm it with Dell.

Hey Pratap, when I had 4 screens in each quadrant, each screen was from a separate physical input source, so you won't be able to have 8 input sources since the physical inputs are limited. If you have 8 computers, you'd likely need two monitors so you can have 4 displayed on each monitor. Maybe you can still view all 8 with one monitor by using some kind of HDMI switcher, but you'd have to hunt around and do some trial and error to get that working I think.

It works amazingly well and you can pair up to 3 computers with it. The way it works is that once the mouse cursor hits the edge of the screen on the first computer, it jumps over to the next computer screen. For the keyboard, they have three numbers at the top of the keyboard labeled 1,2,3 to switch between computer 1,2 or 3. @ddearborn708411 ай бұрын

Hmmm A bit long winded but the devil is in the details… What is the elephant in the room when it comes to 43" 4K monitor? An elephant that not only won't manufactures’ talk about, neither will most of the "reviews"/"tests". Several manufactures including Dell and Philips refused to provide that information even when tech support and/or customer service were asked directly.... "DPI" is defined by the number of "dots" a monitor can display (fit) within a theoretical 1" X 1" box. That theoretical 1"x1" box remains consistent whether you are measuring a cellphone screen or a 98" mega big screen TV because 1"x1" is the same on ALL DISPLAYS! Logic dictates and common sense tells us that more dots per inch equals smaller dots while less dots per inch equals bigger dots. Consequently, the fewer the dots in the box and thus the bigger the dots the greater the "pixilation" at a given distance... In the US in 2023 there are still more than 10 times as many users with 2560x1440 monitors between 27" and 34" as there are using 4K screens. Remember: The average 32" monitor displays roughly 92 dpi at 1440p. Every 43" 4K monitor/TV on the market displays 103-4 DPI. I personally have been using a 32" BenQ 32" 1440p monitor for the last 7 years with a DPI of 92. At my normal viewing distance under 21"" text and fine detail are crisp and clear with no smudging or blurriness’ and only a hint of pixilation. Results will of course vary from user to user. Obviously, a 43" 4K monitor with a DPI of 103 should ALWAYS DISPLAY CLEARER TEXT AND FINE DETAIL WITH LESS PIXILATION THAN MY 92DPI 1440 MONITOR both at 100% scaling. And yet... I have looked at quite few 43" Monitors over the last 2 years AND NONE OF THEM OFFER TRULY CLEAR TEXT AND FINE DETAIL WITHOUT PIXILATION at 100% scaling! How is that possible given that, all else being equal, a 32" 2560 x 1440p 92DPI monitor physically CAN NOT offer better text and fine detail display than a 43" 4K 3840 x 2160 monitor with a DPI of 103!!!!!!!! THE reason 43" 4K monitors suck is simple: Pretty much every 43" Monitor and every TV with specs suitable to be used as a monitor have panels with a BGR sub-pixel layout which is very poorly supported by MS Windows 8-11 operating system and most Windows programs resulting in blurry text and loss of fine detail. On the other hand, traditional RGB (red/green/blue) sub-pixel layouts are 100% supported by virtually every PC operating system and program on the planet and provides crisp clear text and fine detail. SO HOW COME MAINSTREAM CONSUMERS DON'T KNOW ABOUT THIS?? Again, the answer is obvious: Despite offering reams of technical data covering the most minute details of the specs, the one that is always missing is the SUB-PIXEL LAYOUT. In short, the manufacturers clearly are hiding this information from consumers intentionally which is very odd considering in terms of text and fine detail display it is arguably the single most important specification along with resolution and color gamut! Color gamut is another set of specifications that Manufacturers are also often hiding from consumers. In conclusion, the reason manufacturers have switched from RGB to BGR sub-pixel layouts primarily in 43" and up displays/TV's despite massive degradation in text and fine detail display at 100 scaling is simple: They make more money this way! Besides, they have managed to get legions of shills on hundreds of forums telling everybody the problem is due to DPI instead of the truth that the problem is the switch to BGR sub-pixel layout! Sad to say this reinforces the fact that Manufacturers in general are greedy and very often dishonest...

  • @DemCrumblies

    @DemCrumblies

    11 ай бұрын

Hey @ddearborn7084, you're correct about the BGR layout. When I made this review, I didn't even know about this. One of the viewers below (@flamingo_dance) asked 4 months ago as soon as I released this video if it was RGB or BGR. You guys are more on the ball about this than I am. Now that I know, though, I will try to incorporate that into my specs the next time I review a monitor. Another problem with this review, which I pinned in the comments above is that at the time of this review, I took Dell's stated specs and presented them here, but later Dell CHANGED the specs to lower specs. I'm assuming this was because they copied and pasted specs and forgot to modify all the areas. Luckily I checked waybackmachine to confirm I wasn't going crazy and it showed they had incorrect specs listed before. It's crazy that a huge company like this, who has a good reputation with monitors for the most part can't launch with proper specs, given all the teams and sign-offs I'm assuming a product has to go through before it's pushed live.

"A multitasker's dream" - Why? It lets you multitask just as good as a 32'' or even a bit smaller 4K monitor. It would be a multitasker's dream to have a 43'' that is 6k or 8k. Desktop real estate doesn't really depend on display size (as long as it isn't just small), but on actual resolution. 🤷🏻‍♂

There's a handful of comments on here from programmers saying this size is great for split screening apps. I have a 32" 4K monitor, and it definitely is easier for my eyes when I had used the 43" 4K vs the 32" 4K, which is why I haven't ventured into 5K + monitors. I know the resolution would probably not be ideal for me even though I could have a much wider timeline when editing videos.

This monitor is total junk. 5 months old and mine is faulty. Dell fighting me on its repair. Pathetic.

Yea these are pretty much productivity based, but hopefully they release better spec'd monitors at CES.

I use 32" from Lenovo with 4K, since Covid and lockdown happened. And main reason to order it, just because that is 4x16" Full HD displays, But main lack was, speakers and amount of USB-C ports. and unfortunately Dell didn't produce any suxh size with all these needed, except those 32" with Web cam integrated, that is a quite overpriced as for me. 40 and especially 43" oversized for ordinaty work from home and may be suitable for some "monitoring rooms" where speakers are not necessary already.

Are you using a sound bar with your Lenovo 4K monitor? While monitor with built-in speakers are a good backup, I think I would always just add a horizontal sound bar under the monitor for better sound.

@@DemCrumblies tried to use soundbar Doesn't work for me. Requires additional wires to charge it. That leads to cluttering. And sound it is not something that is needed constantly. So, use internal Dell Latitude speakers when needed. And because Dell is 2-in-1 with detachable keyboard, it stays before the display as a second one. On soundbar would obstructed.

@@ZhenyaTyoma Yea it would be neat if they sold a sound bar that had wireless charging from the monitor stand somehow.

@@DemCrumblies what is ideal display for me would be 1. 30", not more. depends, may be 32" 2. 16:10 or ideally 3:2. (mandatary any of these) 3. UHD+. 3840x2400 or 3840x2560 if it is 3:2 (mandatory) 4. Speakers, not mono like in Huawei MaetView, but stereo. (speaker is mandatory, stereo preferable) 5. At least two USB+DP AltMode or TB+DP AltMod inputs. To be able to connect two devices via USB-C cable 6. Integrated WebCam (very desirable) 7. And yes, distance between back side of a display and a wall. 25+ cm it is too much. not everyone can afford and may have desk 90+ cm depth to install it on correct distance from the eyes. Strongly there is no such across all vendors. Dell 30" U3023Q is only in 16:10 but 2560x1600, that is more-less acceptable, but no sound Huawei MateView very looks like fits. But - it is Huawei, Wireless projection works for Huawei devices only. One speaker, and 28" only, that is acceptable if nothing else is on еру market Dell U3223QZ looks and looked like a very ideal, but what stops against replacement, it is its 16:9 and because if it would be 16:10, and 32", then camera would be sitting to high. and because 30" would be good with integrated WebCam

@@ZhenyaTyoma Yea, it'll be hard to find a monitor that fits all those requirements. I definitely prefer having 4K and HDR support. My setup isn't minimal yet, so I don't mind adding a sound bar, but if you're going for a clean setup, then having a matching or built-in sound bar in the monitor is ideal.
