    I have this laptop, It was running hot all the time, no matter what you do. The main problem is that there isnt fan control option in the Bios menu, so I desided to modefye the laptop. I connected my fan directly to the USB port and put small resistor to reduse fan spinning. Now my temperatute are around 40-45 C. I think this is success.

    I need your help .Can i replace the gpu fan only without having to remove the heatsink from the cpu on the e6430? I may have to either replace or remove so i can get to the radiator like part of the heat sink, it may be clogged. Thanks in advance.

    I noticed you didn't spread the paste on which is recommended. In any case if it starts to overheat maybe that would be something to try next. Nice tutorial Matthew, good work!

    I need to get some thermal paste so I can upgrade my GX620 with the E7500 I got a few years ago would put it in my GX745 that i've never used but its SATA only an I only have IDE hard drives, i'm sure the paste on my Latitude D620 needs replacing but I dont use it much since it doesnt have a hard drive in it so I just use a live USB with it.

    sir i have a question i build mine with an i7 3630qm and it's normal on 50-70 c but if i use Camtasia it goes to 104 c, repasting it with Artic Silver 5 and thermal pads will do a better cooling or it's worthless?

    clean your fans internally, compressed air or something like an inflatable bed compressor works great. If it still overheats, NEVER put these on beds or on their side when you're using it, the left side has the fan exhaust and if closed it will kill the laptop or overheat the power supply itself and pop.

    Man, how come your E6430 boot so fast? Mine is the same but using the i7 3540M with the dedicate Nvidia NVS 5200M, and also the same SSD, but when I boot up mine, it will take longer than you (not significant long, but noticeable longer than yours). Anyway, the E6430 is a great laptop, durable, reliable and fast as well. But too heavy as a 15" laptop.

    my dell latitude E6430 suddenly stopped coming up. The last message displayed was a blue screen saying hard drive is inaccessible, afterward when I turn it on, the storage led just blinks white light intermittently and now its very hard to even come on, when I press the power button, it trips on and off. please, what can I do?

    your power supply is probably toast. inside myabe some compressed air on those fan slots would clean things out. repaste like this tutorial. replace your hard drive with a SSD, 480,512,960gb or 1tb, never put this on a couch or bed, never tilt it left and leave it on it's side when you use it. basically this thing has had it, and there are $400 microsoft surface options that go way faster and are lighter. Put this in the dirt. :|

    They are beginning to discontinue the 6xxx series, so there is no E6x50. There is an E5x50 series and apparently those are up to the same quality as the earlier E6x laptops but I'd have to see it to believe it as the earlier E5xxx laptops were terrible.

    +Jack Durrant Ya know, a test was done by LinusTechTips and basically the results were it really doesn't matter how much you use (to a reasonable degree). The only thing that's bad is if you don't use enough/any.

  • @kbrodeur

    @kbrodeur

    too much is VERY bad, it can cause a thermal blanket!!! Don't listen to that advice of "too much is ok" your CPU will pop. Put your finger on the cpu, move around the paste, dab and clean your finger off on something, and if you ALMOST see fingerprints on the cpu die, you're at a perfect threshold.
