Good job! These excellent instructions worked for my 3531 as well. TY! I expected a substantially faster boot up. I've heard boot time is as fast as 6 seconds with a SSD. Mine was less than a minute, and that's a lot longer than 6 seconds. I do believe it was a faster boot time than with the old hard drive.

You could remove the optical drive and fit the HDD in a optical bay caddy.

Well if it has a disk reader you could swap that out for another hard drive

I normally use True Image to clone the contents of the old drive across: kzread.info/dash/bejne/fIpolcammNa3g5c.html Combined with a basic USB 3.0 SATA caddy.

If the drive is faulty then you may struggle to get much from it. If its in good condition then you should just be able to copy stuff across via Windows Explorer.

If it is a regular SATA HDD of the right thickness then it should work fine.

If the laptop only has one drive in the first place it'll probably be both, with the one drive divided into 2 partitions.

This laptop doesn't support two separate drives, it'll be one drive divided into 2 partitions.

You need to either install Windows or clone it from the old drive to the SSD.
