You can argue about the way it was handled and what they eventually did with her character. I thought how she started out was just what a female Starbuck would and should be like, and I don't fault them for trying. Benedict's Starbuck was always such a womanizer; making the character female seemed like an ironic and appropriate twist. Removing the two most capable black men on the Galactica and turning one white and the other into an Asian female (and having them _both_ be Cylon fleshbags)... that was the real WTF for me.

Never seen this before. It's the only time that it's mentioned that Cassie wasn't always a medic - she was a 'socialator' before the Colonies fell, basically a prostitute. And aside from her age, that explains a lot of the animus that Sheba had for her early on; her mother had died, and her father was keeping company with a prostitute the same age as his daughter. No wonder she couldn't stand the sight of Cassie at first! What Apollo said to Sheba in this scene didn't convince her to give Cassie a chance, but Cassie risking her life on Gamoray to save Bojay, her quiet, confident competence as a medic in the shuttle and later aboard Pegasus, went a long way to changing her mind.

War Of The Gods was one of the show's and science fiction's best scripts. And showed off the real potential the show had besides having the dogfights in space with the Cylons every week. Had Maren Jensen had been a better actress. There wouldn't have been a need to add and actress half way through the first (and only) season of Battlestar Galactica. Don't get me wrong. I loved the addition of Anne Lockhart. She was great as Sheba. Sheba was a warrior and pilot equal to Starbuck and Apollo. But Maren Jensen was hired for that strong woman warrior. But her acting was terrible. That's why after Sheba was introduced. Athena roll in the show was cut. Athena went from being a bridge officer and Adama's shuttle pilot. To begin a school teacher.

Sheba was not supposed to be a regular, she was supposed to be killed off, which is why she was shot down, she was supposed to die, but at the last minute Glen Larson liked her and kept her on the show and reduced Athena's role. In the second season if there was one, Athena was supposed to be recast and Sheba killed and changing Apollo's character making him more reckless and vengeful. Sheba was basically used to finish out the season, until they could recast Athena, but the second season never happened. Athena in the second season, was supposed to take charge more and be at odds with Apollo more.

I love the BSG Colonial uniforms.
The whole cast were so damn good looking. Named after Greek gods an they could easily have played them. In the new battle star they looked like they had been dragged from the job center. Poc marks and chain smoker teeth. Was all wrong. Even the Cylons looked like pretty Xmas decorations. But still managed to be menacing and cool.
Really nice scene. Should have kept it in. Now Apollo's dig "We have found a weakness or two, haven't we?" at Sheba makes a lot more sense now. If Apollo and Sheba ever had a kid, it would probably end up being the greatest warrior in the history of the Colonies with Cain, Apollo, and Sheba's genetic material.

If they ever would have shown Sheba and Apollo's child, he should have been played by Jordan Bridges, Lloyd's real life grandson.
Great chemistry. Thanks
When Apollo said that "only the strong survived" instead of just saying "not necessarily" she should have said "For the most part BUT SOME OF THEM WERE JUST LUCKY".
I love finding these little nuggets from the original. Why can't Universal get their act together and put all these scenes with the DVD's?

Sucks that after the first dogfight with Apollo and Starbuck, the writers conveniently forgot that Sheba was the best pilot on either Galactica or Pegasus -- remember she almost shot down Starbuck and Apollo in that first dogfight.

I never really cared for Sheba. She went from insufferably bitchy to insufferably clingy. Her character never seemed to find a balance. It was one extreme or another. However, Anne is gorgeous, regardless of her hair being in a bun, and her butt in that outfit alone is absolutely worth purchasing the entire box set. NOT JOKING. Sheba's character may be insufferable, but Anne herself is beautiful.

Dirk Benedict turned out to be pivotal to original BSG. Any replacement would have been burdened with the comparison. Even Katie Sackoff couldn’t avoid it. The controversy created was marketing genius. She could easily have been renamed Sheba instead of Starbuck.

That deleted scene was in the ABC broadcasted airing to my recollection, but it’s not on the iTunes version. To bad. Annie Lockhart did a great job. She needed a corresponding character in new BSG.
Original Battlestar was awesome.
"Those things that brought down our world..." Yeah, I think it was incompetent leadership and a high-ranking traitor that did that more than "socialators", Apollo.
Anne Lockhart was a goddess...

aah, Sheba. pour dire je t'aime
I would like to see classic BSG in METV or FETV.
Probably the most intelligent dialogue in the whole series.....and they cut it.
I Will Always Love You Lady Anne Lockhart
I never took Sheba for a snob.
they should have kept this scene in there
why did Sheba put her hair up in early episodes and not in later ones?
I know its a different fictional universe but Wilma Deering from BUCK ROGERS IN THE 25TH CENTURY is a way better fighter pilot than "Sheba" and in a dogfight my money would be on Wilma. The ultimate "dogfight" (and I wish DanCo would discuss it in his "battle arena" series) would be Buck Rogers and Wilma Deering in their Buck Rogers Starfighters vs Apollo and Starbuck in their Colonial Vipers. It would be the ultimate "dogfight".
I think this deleted, scene, and several others are rare Clips, from The Bonus Edition
I wish they re-do or continue from the original series ( not Galactica 1980)

Richard Hatch did write a few novels that continued the story. Starbuck and Cassiopeia had a daughter and she was a pilot, and of course Cassiopeia had thrown out Starbuck many yahrens before. I read the novels, but that was almost 20 yahrens ago, in the late 90's.

People who have buns untie them naturally. And Sheba does have long flowing hair in the series anyways, so we can realistically assume she undid it before placing her Viper helmet on.
Same here and i've met Anne Lockhart at a convention back in 2005. If only Classic Galactica had continued surely we would've all seen Apollo *hit* that eventually! And according to the Maximum Press BSG comic books of the 90's he did and produced a kid named Cain! grandson of both Commander's; Adama and Cain.
from what I understand if Battlestar Galactica would have been renewed for a second season they were going to go in and trim the cast that meant that Cibo was going to be either killed off or the Pegasus was going to come back and she was going to leave they were going to recast Thena cuz Glen Larson andrene Jensen just did not get along and he felt she wasn't doing a good job if you noticed towards the end of the series marine verily have anything to do that's up for speak a few lines Boxee was going to be trimmed down I also heard that boday was going to go Colonel Ty was going to be a reoccurring character boltar was going to be a reoccurring character because they were going to cut down on the cylons so it would have been interesting to see if they would have got to continue towards a second season I like Toshiba I know they brought her in is the love interest for Apollo even and Lockhart has said this that when Jane Seymour decided she didn't want to be on the show and only one to come on as a guest star to be killed off they sent her script to have her join the show but she was tough she was you know fighter pilot one of the few female fighter pilots on the show but I think God if the second season would have came around I think coming down the cash cuz they had a lot of cast members and some of them would have been reduced to like reoccurring characters I think it would have still been a good show but it just really upset me reading you know I'm lying the people and I bought the original series on DVD that they didn't expect to show the get cancelled they expected be renewed it was still in the top 20 and look up Buck Rogers the first season it was in the top 30 and they renewed for a second season so I don't know why the issue with Battlestar Galactica it didn't get renewed and too bad another Network didn't pick it up but of course we have cable back then too bad because they probably would have I wasn't a fan of the renewed Battlestar Galactica Series in the 2000 watched it I couldn't get into it was too dark but I did watch a few episodes and Caprica the spin-off it sucked and I heard that they were going to redo a new movie on Battlestar Galactica and it's going to be based on the original series and maybe this time it will be because now they got computer stuff it'll be interesting to see you the technology

Urgh, "War of the Gods" was the pits. I agree with you. There was no transition in her character, it was more like the creators threw her character under the bus to elicit melodrama and tension in the audience. Even Benedick had to chew the scenery with that stinker script. It was a case of chew scenery or just phone it in like the crappy the script was. They chewed and I have to applaud the cast for knuckling under.

War Of The Gods was one of the show's and science fiction's best scripts. And showed off the real potential the show had besides having the dogfights in space with the Cylons every week. Her character wasn't thrown under a bus given the Count Iblis character mental influences on people, which was actually hinted at in that two parter episode.

@@jmv1969 Yes indeed. There are several TV series I've watched that started out strong, only to slide badly downhill in later seasons thanks to the writers and producers. Several managed to slide badly downhill halfway through season 1 and never got a season 2.
