I stayed at an Airbnb in Dallas. On the 3rd day, apartment management came to the door and said the guy owed them two months of rent and it wasn’t allowed to be an Airbnb. Was told by them to leave. Airbnb said I’d get a refund. Then a week later they said they never said that, refused to give me the recorded call and screwed me out of $2000. I will never use their service again.

I've always enjoyed going to hotels. There's a sense of excitement and grandeur that an airbnb cannot replicate. A hotel has you navigate your way up stairs or on an elevator, wade through seemingly endless corridors and find your room. Sometimes if you're lucky the hotel has a pool, and you can get breakfast (hotel toast is really good for no particular reason). You can get some poor ones, but ultimately hotels are one of the best ways to spend the night away from home, and I hope they never disappear.

lol I’m about to ruin hotel pools for you. Chlorine doesn’t smell like anything on its own. When chlorine mixes with stuff like sweat, body oils, and pee, it turns into chloramines. Chloramine is what smells like classic “pool smell” and burns your eyes, not regular chlorine in clean water. So when you get hit in the face by an obnoxious amount of “pool smell,” stay away. That is some very dirty water. Source: ex competition swimmer and science nerd

My very dumb and brave husband got in, and immediately got out because the liner in the pool had been ripped somewhere, so now the water was inside it and with every step you could feel the liner move (Not sure why THAT was the thing that made him get out) Still can't believe he didn't get some sort of infection or disease from even touching the stuff

I've stayed at a couple really nice Airbnbs before; they were fantastic... Then all those feelings went away as soon as I woke up on my last day and realized I have to wash the dishes and do all the laundry before a 9am checkout or else I'll somehow get charged a $250 cleaning fee ON TOP OF the $100 cleaning fee I already paid to book it in the first place...

I've only ever stayed at one air bnb, with my mom and sisters, and the place was great. Beautiful view on the river, every room meticulously designed with a different but subtle theme, and gorgeous walking trails on the multiacre property. The last day as we were packing up my mom is literally washing dishes, mopping floors, and even cleaning the oven and stove. I'm like, what are you doing? "It's in the guestbook, we have to clean the place so we don't get charged extra" Unbelievable. We paid what was to me, a broke college grad, a small fortune for 2 nights in this place. And we still have to play housekeeper?

Can confirm, one of my favorite things to do when I’m on vacation is to stay in a hotel. They have some of the softest beds ever and I can just sleep in it? With peace and quiet? A little pricey, sure but it is so good.

You can sleep in regardless of where you stay on your own vacation lol. The only days you can't sleep in are arrival and departure dates, because even hotels have check out times. But you can easily sleep in as long as you like in a tent on a campground as well, it's not unique to a hotel. Airbnb and vrbo just offer options like entire homes that you can stay in

I work as a housekeeper and listen to podcasts while I clean. I've heard commercials for Airbnb and they make no sense. I'm literally answering every bullet point they mention with, "you can do that in a hotel". Like everyone getting their own room and bathroom and being able to have grandparents around. We have several suites that are basically apartments. One of them has 2 queen size pull out couches! What house has a bathroom per bedroom? That's only something you can find in hotels. Airbnb has essentially taken over a nearby county I used to work in. Most of the people who work there now can't afford to live there. Anyone looking to rent a place can only find accommodation for a few months over the winter because it's outside tourist season. They gotta be out when it's needed again for Airbnb.

I've been to a fair few hotels that don't have bathrooms in the rooms, and hotels are extremely overpriced for what you get. That is how services like Airbnb and vrbo have been able to gobble up so much of the hospitality industry so fast, I can stay at an entire house with free parking for a few weeks paying about $15-$20 a day, or I can spend a week in a hotel paying $100-$500 a day. On only extremely rare occasions have I found a hotel or even a motel or hostal room for under $80 a day.

An Airbnb is basically living in your parents house when they’re away, except YOU pay to stay there. That’s the best way I describe it, cause the one Airbnb I stayed at had little notes on what you can and can’t do. Which was basically what my parents did when they were away on a 10 hour trip to who-fuckin-knows-where. Also, in Badaga Bay (or something, IDK) there is a hotel and it’s basically an Airbnb. Because the town is so small/compact, the “rooms” are tiny houses scattered by the reception building (which is the same size as the “rooms”). You have the room size of an Airbnb with the leniency and cleaning service of the hotel.

I "stayed" there in Amsterdam and can tell you that it is eerily soundproofed and has a small ass door to get through the lift. No lobby and you have to access a safe for the keycards like you are in Mission Impossible. Also there are stairs that look straight the fuck down (150 feet, 10 stories) between the deck where the lift stops in this duplex and the rooms. Once seeing this panic attack out of the elevator I said bye to $600 went back down not trying lose my suitcase to gravity and small stairs. The sole concierge said if I saw the hot tub on top of crane that I would change my mind. The Mystique is a beautifully crafted room but cramped and between the access points and the height it is a straightforward fucking terror trip.

The last time I took my family on vacation a lot of our vacation plans fell through which included missing show times, dinners, events, and rentals we all had planned. It was still a great vacation because we spent every night in our hotel making cups of coffee with the little coffee machine they give you in the rooms. We would constantly go back and forth from lobby to room with more coffee and creamers. We watched random cartoons (my kid sister was with us so we had to watch stuff tailored to a younger audience.), basked in the nighttime seabreeze on the room's patio, and my brother and I played video games on my laptop. Hotels are awesome. I would never pass up on a hotel experience.

I get why some people hate bnbs and how some people have made theirs super obnoxious, but we actually love them 😅 it’s allowed our family to actually travel. We had an entire house in Birmingham to ourselves for like $90 a night, meanwhile the shittiest hotel with hardly any amenities was at least $100. Our hosts were very sweet, didn’t demand we do any extra chores. It felt so easy, like the bare minimum is don’t trash the house and pick up for yourself. You’re not allowed to trash hotel rooms either, they charge you for anything you use as well. Our place had little snacks and drinks they said we were free to have, and even without the homeowners present it still felt very welcoming. They didn’t ask us to do the dishes, we loaded the dishwasher with what we used because yeah we were staying in someone’s home, not a hotel. We didn’t mind it at all. For us to feel “fancy” at a hotel is WAYYY out of our price range, so we may as well feel comfortable and have extra money for our trip. I guess singles who can afford $200 a night rooms can easily nitpick some air bnbs, but they can be a life saver for larger groups with smaller budgets. That being said, I wish air bnb would restrict some of the “rules” some renters can demand. If you want to HOST an actual bed and breakfast you have to expect to do quite a bit of work yourself. I’d say at the very least if you want to be that hands off and have guests do all the house chores, cut your rates on half.

The 1st time was alright, but on the 2nd the septic tank overflowed at 2am & it came through the bottom of the wall into the bedroom, so we were stuck sleeping in a room that stank of sewage bc we could not go anywhere else at that hour. That 1 was...memorable. Also, if I'm paying to stay away from home, the room service & pool are non-negotiables. They're the best things about traveling, for me.
