As a dear friend of Del's who travelled around Australia, that last song is more than an omen that we should have seen. Could we have helped him? He was unhappy that the British invasion had hit record sales. He also did that last concert live in Sydney. He wanted it filmed. For someone that would scream at the control room if the lights were white or bright, and then this? There is a reason he wanted for us to treasure. A final farewell. WHY did we not see that? I was there that night it was recorded. Spent the day with him before it. I will always feel the pain that I, at least, should have seen something. Especially someone that had know him for 30 years.

Very sorry David, painful for you. Perhaps he didn’t want you to know, or be stopped? As someone who has attempted it myself, I know that nothing or no one could have stopped me at that time.

When I hear these songs it takes me back to the early sixties when I was 14 years old and his distinctive voice would blast from the loud speakers of the open air swimming pool and the fairground rides. He brought joy to so many people who could relate to his lyrics. What a tragedy he couldn't feel the gratitude of a generation who loved his music.

Del is a legend that was way ahead of his time. He never got the dues he so deserved in life. What a shame he could not out run the past because that's all people wanted to hear. This man was a musical genius! He had more talent in his little finger than most could only dream of having. I wish he could have gotten what he so deserved! He was beyond talented! Only all these years latter can some people look past Runaway to his latter songs and finally see what the world lost Feb,8th 1990. I pray he is now at peace. The world missed out on his true, special gift simply because they wanted to stay in the past. Del deserved much more than that! I will love Del forever!

Del was such an underrated artist. I know how bad depression, feelings of insecurity and suicidal thoughts are. I deal with them every day. Being a musician myself(but nowhere near as good as Del was) I can completely relate to him. Unfortunately,he became totally overcome by the hell he lived in and we lost a very talented man. My heart goes out to his entire family and fans. God rest your soul,Del. May your music live on forever, brother.

When someone is suicidal, if you don't pay attention 💋😓- then this is what happens. The signs are there all the other person in their life that Truley lives them should PAY ATTENTION TO EVERY SINGLE SIGN,N STAY WITH THEM. All I can say is on my end as a true fan - I truly loved Dels music n while he was here,he graced our stages and radio's with his talent and made us get up and dance n sing!! So,he was an Angel in disguise for me. Not only a handsome man who was responsible for so many songs that other bands used to get famous from. If you look up his tunes, you'll find out they were used for some of The Beatles songs in their past. And alot of other artists ike,Roy Orbison and Tom Petty..on and on and on....

He had a big Booming voice, powerful , yet very melodic, the crowds loved him. His songs are iconic. I've even read that he was always afraid of going broke, but with all his hits that was never going to be a reality. Why, why, I do know that Prozac was partly responsible. He was on it for a while during the time of his death and couldn't sleep with it .I was on it too. Insomnia and depression are a toxic cocktail . I know his last wife was talking about them suing the drug company that manufactured Prozac. I never heard the outcome. RIP Del .. you're in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame . I wish you could have held out a little longer my brother . Your really missed !

No Doubts that this a "shitty" report ! As life-long fan of Del+admirer of his talents, I must say that I still have great doubts in his "suicide" ,depending on the "reason" that his career was "down" !! Especialy in "that times" with having a new (its filled up with new hits!!) album out, replacing Roy at the "Travellin Willbs.",working together with great Jeff Lynn+Tom Petty, mentioned in the press(even here in fucking Germany!!) + so on, it was more a "climbing up" again !!!

I Gave Charles Drop Down And Get Me , Walk away and Rock On Every Song on his Last Love Hook Line and Sinker Charles Was Working On country music when I first met him and I told him you're not a country guy you are a rock and roller it's true he was my sponsor for 14 years and AAA I think he had a year more than me I send will be celebrating 40 Years of sobriety and I owe most of it to Charles I found him a studio in the Backwoods Saugus California and I always talk to him about music I always told him that every album he did he had to put at least one oldies on it and every song I told him to do he would do I loved him like a dad my favorite uncle a brother he was an amazing man we used to split BLTs and hash browns at the weigh station and at the health store on Lyons in Newhall I always knew that I was going to do something with music. So is always good friends with his family and ended up the last year's with his daughter Jodi that I love with all my heart and still miss her as much as I miss anyone including Charles I could tell story after Story but everything I said was true I remember after drop down and get me come out he said Bobby we have a bullet it was 30 on the charge and I was thinking well it's great but my name's not on anything but I was so happy to see how he was I gave him all that and he gave me much more I have my own All Star Band now and been riding for the last 12 years with Steve Miller's drummer Gary mallaber Eddie money's bass player Ralph Carter I started playing with Ray Charles when Ray got sick send Brad rabuchin that was with Ray Charles for Last 5 Years join my band and Big L Walker from The Temptations and Four Tops... I got to hire Mike Finnegan from Electric ladyland now it's Bonnie red and Johnny Rochelle that produced Bonnie raitt's album of the year 2004 to help me with my CD it should be out this summer 2018 not to show that I'm just not kidding around I've been playing guitar for 55 years and though Del showed me a few tricks I was already playing guitar but held back no one really knows my life and what I've been through myself I just want to rock and roll till the day I die and I'll Always Love Charles and Jody Westover till the day I die I love them with all my heart and soul... Bobby Hart thanks for your interesting comments, any true fan of rock and roll would I'm sure still miss Del, odd isn't it that today many of the old rockers from that era are still rocking out and still sounding great even though many have passed on, Del had many demons I guess? booze being one, but under all that I learned from family and friends he was a very decent guy and he was always polite and courteous the 4 times I met him - died at 55 gee all those future songs and performances we've all lost since 1990 - what a waste - always in my thoughts!

I can't help but think with all his success, did Del really do it? OR was Del a victim at the hands of foul play? Huuuuummm?

I dont think of his death in the traditional sense, but, foul play yes. I dont think it was planned and there was not suicide note. His wife hit the nail on the head. If you look at the combination of Prozac and alcohol it can be a deadly combination and it was - pharmaceutical industry foul play.

As a person with depression, I know how he felt. I've come close to suicide several times. My family was the only thing that stopped me.
