i think at some point at least some part of Bakugo started to understand how truly fucked up it was to be so cruel to Midoriya. But his pride got in the way, in the end it's all about self-worth. He was so terribly insecure that he had to act out to make himself feel superior. In my opinion, if anything's pathetic it's that. Midoriya was strong for staying true to who he was after all those years.
