Totally agree with others about an episode discussing skin changes and skincare in perimenopause and menopause. I was seriously not prepared for the skin effects from perimenopause that I've experienced so far (like suddenly becoming reactive to my usual skincare regime, getting patches of eczema at random times, milia outbreaks, bouts of cholinergic urticaria) & until I spoke to my GP I had no idea if it was something I was doing wrong with my skin to make it behave the way it was.

So, as others have mentioned here, there needs to be more research and discussion about how peri-menopause and menopause affect the skin. We all know about how environment, sun damage, stress, diet, gravity etc. affect the skin over time. We also know the habits and products that can help with those. However, what I have not seen a lot of talk about is how loss of estrogen and progesterone impact the look and feel of the skin. (In addition to all the other lovely changes to your body. So much fun) I feel like the lack of information on this leads sooooooo many women to feel bad about the way they look. Even though they have done everything right for their skin. I am definitely one of those women. I have been caring for my skin, almost obsessively, my whole life. It wasn't until I watched a video from another dermatologist here about why JLo looks so good for her age. She stated that one of the factors was that she thought JLo was probably on some form of hormone therapy. I feel kind of stupid, but I never would have thought about that. No doctor has ever had any discussion about that with me. This needs to be talked about more. And it needs to be proactive rather than waiting until full menopause and the damage has already been done.

@@GoBlueGirl78 I don't know who that is, but it is absurd to say that. A 30-year-old is going to have very different needs than I have. I can tell you that for sure as I was 30 at one time. I still had good elasticity and firmness, and I did not have a sagging jaw, a droopy mouth, etc. My lips were still full, most are at 40 and ever well into the 40's. It's different now, so age does matter. Most products seem to be formulated for up to 50 and then I guess we all die or just stop caring.

As far as when sunscreen should be used…when I was growing up in the 70s… no one was aware that sun was harmful! As a teen, I had very bad acne and went to a dermatologist who gave me Retin-A liquid and told me it would be beneficial also to sit out in the sun for 15 minutes a day to let the sun dry up my acne. So I never wore sunscreen Even into my 40s. Unfortunately, now I have a lot of sun damage.

First of all, thanks for all you do! Luv you guys. I need to say that sleeping on your side without a special pillow for your face can definitely cause wrinkles. I've witnessed people having more wrinkles on the side of their face that they prefer to sleep on. Because of that, I invested in a special pillow that keeps my cheeks off the pillow while on my side. I'm more of a side sleeper so the pillow has really made a difference. ❤👍🏻

That's actually really interesting. The community I've seen with de-influencing either show there house as imperfect and how they are handling it. Or they talk about what you don't need at all no alternative 😂. Which I guess the second kinda falls under what you two talked about. The "TikTok" ban is actually a lot MORE than banning TikTok.

I'm from the EU, no no. Smoking is just as heavily discouraged here as it is in the US. You can not smoke in public office buildings, some squares, public places. Also tabacco is taxed heavily.

I think sleeping on one's back does help prevent wrinkles. I've noticed I have less wrinkles than my sisters. I'm the middle sister. One likes to sleep on her side, and the other often sleeps on her stomach. I used to sleep on my side, but I trained myself to sleep on my back.

I got confused when you were talking about micro needling? It’s not the same as face exercise, right? I get as you said the facial muscles don’t change that much. It’s the fat cells move to other places. Do the move because of loss of collagen and elasticity? I guess I want to ask is micr needling helpful in stimulating collagen or elasticity in the dermis. I enjoy you both very much. I really don’t care about Tic Toc. Lol

I have genetically had good skin but one thing that has occurred recently is due to a change in sleeping position (I'm 53). I used to sleep on my back but an injury means I now sleep predominantly on my right side. This has been for a few years now and over this time I have gradually noticed that my right eyebrow and right eyelid are obviously lower than the left (which they were not before). It is even more noticeable now as I have had to start wearing glasses again for reading (having been shortsighted from age 7 to 27 when I had laser surgery) and the right eyebrow is below the frame whilst the left is parallel to it. Any advice as to how to combat this other than not sleeping on my right side (as this is not an option)? is what people say about satin pillowcases true for example? Thank you and for all your content.

I used to sleep on my side when I was younger but now pretty consistently sleep on my back Two things that could help is 1. a different pillow, I switched from a loose down pillow to one of those memory foam pillows that has a well in the middle, and it's more comfortable to lay on my back with it 2. just putting pillows on the side you like to sleep on, and on your chest... it's like weighing yourself down in place lol

@@k8eee Thank you so much for replying with suggestions, really kind. Unfortunately it is a pelvic injury that is the problem so I literally can't lie on my back for more than 5 minutes without my sacrum started to hurt! It's very annoying as I don't sleep nearly as well now on my side! x

Yes satin pillow case might help. Also, massaging the face after getting up helps as well. You can search the fascial massage for dropping skin. That's what my mom do. She usually sleeps on sides.

@@kathrynJMwest sorry to hear about your injury. I feel for you, I’m dealing with an injury too. I’ve never been able to sleep on my back. I snore and wake up from nightmares!
