Deicide - When Satan Rules His World - Guitar Cover (+Tabs)

Third video of Deicide Djanuary is none other than When Satan Rules His World, a staple of any Deicide setlist. This is one of the most straightforward songs to play with a few licks in more standard Death metal style rather than the usual erratic Hoffman bros style… HOWEVER, this song will tire your right arm like hell: the fast power chords alternating with tremolo picked riffs will require you to practice a fair bit to build endurance, and warming up before playing the whole thing is recommended!
Tonewise, still a Marhsall JCM 800 but this time boosted by a Boss Metal Zone MT-2 in front (Bias FX does not allow the use of pedal in the amp FX loop). A little EQ after the Bias FX and voilà! Thanks to all of you who informed me about the use of the MT-2 btw, it really helped narrowing down on getting the tone right!
Now that I covered one song from each of their first (and arguably best) albums, I will take a break from the ol’ Deicide and focus on bringing covers from other bands! Rest assured though, I still have a few songs in the works and you will see more of Hoffmans’ riffage in the future!

I get that. I don't personally get offended by any of the lyrics, it's one dude in Florida after all ahahah, but yeah, I really should confess after 15 years of playing this kind of songs!

One of best and my favourite Deicide songs! Nice and blasting guitar 🎸 cover! I really like death metal because this is not only music, but also an art. Guitar riffs in death metal are very amazing.

I've thought about it, notably the album with James Murphy as I love his playing. Maybe in the future, but there are so many songs I still need to cover, it's like the more covers I make the more I need to make!
Quality playing as always! I can only imagine how exhausting the thing is for the right hand. Lately i've been revisiting some riffs that I learned as a teen, trying to play them properly (I used to do alternate because my downstrokes weren't exactly good enough) and man it is difficult.

Thanks Serghei! It is a tiring song for the right arm for sure, however I found that I made the most progress by trying to play actual songs rather than exercises, forcing myself to downpick. You could definitely use this song, dead by Dawn, oblivious to evil and many others as practice!

Hey man thanks! Honestly it might be one of the least technical Deicide songs out there, it requires endurance, but the riffs themselves are very OK to play. Just take your time and practice and you'll get there in no time. For the jeans, they come from Uniqlo, it's their Japanese Selvedge fabric jeans. Hope that helps

yes, absolutely I will. Suffocation is one of my favourite bands, the issue is that unfortunately, I don't have the skills to play the songs I like quite yet. Many people out there have covered some songs, but few have played them right. I am building up my chops to be able to play them right, and I won't cover them until that point! I am hopeful that 2023 will be the year of the first Suffo cover!

Your tone and playing is perfect Bro! Also wondering if on the debut they used Randall amps? I recall a pic of Brian playing a red warlock in front of a Randall stack at a metalfest ??Milwaukee) in 1990. I'm obviously not sure if was his or a shared amplifier option for bands to use at the Festival.

I'm under the impression they used JCM 800 for the first two records at least in the studio. you can see a lot of live footage with Marshalls in the background from that era. My guess would be that at the Milwaukee fest, they used another bands gear maybe?

Well actually someone else commented saying they used Randall's in the early 90's, so I guess it's still a mystery!

It´s like both of us could read our Minds😁 So i thought, this Guy got a Warlock so how long would it take for a Deicide Song 🤘☝ Honestly,this Guy is really a Master when it comes to Death Metal Covers, look at those palm muted Powerchords at 0:15 😲 I mean i watched a lot of Covers on You Tube for this Song, but none of them seemed so right. I tried to play that Part for myself but Goddamn my right Hand fell of me it´s so hard play

The problem is that the Hoffman bros style of soloing is very messy and chaotic, albeit intentionally, so it's extremely hard to tab accurately, let alone play it note for note
The thing that fucks me up is the Tuning. Fuck those halfway tunings and drop tunings ahahahahahah i only have guitars tuned to C, B and D standard. No E Standard, no fucking drop tunings, and no in betwen tones like Bemol or Sharp. 😅

Ah yes, the rule is one (or two) guitar for each tuning! But all jokes aside, what you can do is to use a pitch shifter to digitally tune your whole guitar up or down. I do that for almost every song, and no need to retune anything
