DEHYDRATING BANANAS - Make your own bananas chips that are actually good and healthy
Banana chips are great... but only when you get a good one.
In this video I share how we dehydrate bananas to make our own dried banana chips at home. And you can't get a simpler banana chip recipe than this one.
Banana chips are a delicious snack that you can make with just banana's and a dehydrator at home too.

Ingredients: Bananas Yep thats it!!! We recently finished eating this batch (the vacuum sealing as always was perfect to make sure we didn't gobble them all at once).

Loved your video! I just bought a dehydrator and I’m watching all kinds of videos for tips. Do you know about how long they will keep in the vacuum pack?

@MamaGil17 . Thanks for your lovely comment. We tend to cycle foods on a yearly basis and haven't had an issue with any dehydrated and stored this way in that timeframe.

Wonderful. Thank you so much for the quick reply!
Just an FYI..you should use gloves when transporting to storage. Even if you wash your hands before touching them. The oil from your hands can spoil stored food. Just sayin'

Thanks for watching. I haven't personally has any spoilage, but do always ensure we have clean (and REALLY importantly with dehydrated food) dry hands too
Thankyou

Yum. I sprinkle cinnamon or others spices on some on the trays too. Chilli was interesting!

Thanks for sharing that idea Marie. Having the right tool can make such a huge difference. And sometimes you dont know what you are missing. Like when I found an apple spriliser makes the quickest slices for dehydrated apple chips. Gamechanger!
Yummmmmm Ty for sharing Rach 💖

I have come across ones in health food style stores that are dehydrated. But yes sadly the crispy ones in the supermarkets seem to predominantly be the sugar soaked and fried ones.
Thanks for another great video

Thank you for sharing, do you use the sealer for a range of things and have a recommended brand?

Hi Sarah, the vacuum sealer Im using in this video is a Aldi one. I think I bought it back around when Aldi opened here. It has been working A LOT of years. But I think they have changed the brand they sell since.
I freeze banana without peeling. After i take out, i just put in water for 2 min and peel off. Add in blender with milk and is done a nice smoothie. The banana peel i dry and make tea

I haven't heard of tea like that before. Interesting use to use everything.
could you maybe use an egg flip to slide under them all to loosen then just funnel the rest using the mesh into the jar?

That is definitely worth a shot to help make things a bit quicker 😀
I just started down the rabbit hole of dehydrating. LOL Your banana chips look yummy. Quick question, do you ever put moisture absorbers in you jar of chips?
@Bush_Edge_Homesteading_Aus

It's a great rabbit hole 😁 I have never personally bought or use the absorbers. I vacuum seal things I want to last longer instead.
Nice vid. Can stuff like margarine or jam or vanilla be smeared on the bananas before dehydrating to reduce/prevent browning of the chips? Also, if there’s disruption in electricity, this entails extending the dehydration time, right?

Oils shouldn't be added when dehydrating, so I wouldn't do butter. But vanilla and jam could be used. And lots of people dust spices like cinnamon too. My recommendation is a smaller test batch to see what flavour you like. As flavours concentrate and can change when dehydrating.
I must have missed out on something. I had no idea there was such a thing as banana chips. I grew up on dehydrated banana's as a kid of the 70's-80's. Yous look like what I had as a kid

You do still come across them, usually with the dehydrated stuff in the fruit and veg section. But they are very different to what you can make yourself. And I think the homemade ones like these in the vid are WAY better.
Pinch the bottom of the bananas and peel from the there. Much easier. 😊

Any links for the dehydrator? Where you might get a couple of dollars?

Thanks a bunch for asking Carol... but I don't have any affiliations. Hubby actually bought this one for me as a gift a while back. Im pretty sure he got it from Excalibur Dehydrators Australia if you are on the hunt for one.
Which wholesale fruit market do you use? The price for those bananas is pretty good

What is the approx shelf life?

We tend to eat through an amount like this within 6 months, but when vacuum sealed there is no impact on quality at this stage, so they would last much longer. I have had dehydrated fruits last a couple of years, no problem when properly dehydrated and stored.
I'm from pakistan. How can i buy this dehydrator?

If u dnt gave a machine could u put in the sun

In the right area's Im sure people could do that. I don't myself though as they take a long time. And in my area the weather wouldn't do the job. I would also need to buy something to prevent insects. With the bananas, Im sure ants and things would be attracted. I use the sun for shorter drying like herbs and bread.
Didnt ripe bananas could make chips
