you’re so right that it’s so hard having oily dehydrated and acne... and I’m only 19 and i have prominent lines! my makeup gets so oily so quick. It’s a never ending cycle of i try treat my acne/texture concerns with acids and i get super dehydrated and forehead lines which are from dehydration as they come and go all the time! So I then try to hydrate and not exfoliate or use any harsh acids and then my acne gets worse! One thing i find is that my skin is so dull and my nothing i do helps that! I’ve never had plump glowing skin🥲

If you haven't, try cutting out the bulk of your sugar, salt and oily food or junk/processed food consumption. Add in more water and raw fruit and vegetables. This will help balance you from the inside out, as well as helping to detoxify your system and increase your glow and hydration.

This really hit home for me, Elle. I have very oily skin and therefore I’ve avoided ANYTHING with oil in it. I also get the occasional breakout and rosacea, so I’m reluctant to try anything new. @@bonnietaylor4301Has your oiliness gotten less worse after trying to repair your skin barrier ? I used cortisone creams on my face to help with contact dermatitis and it severely dried out my skin. I then did no moisture therapy meaning I didn’t wash my face not even with water for 2 weeks hoping it would also help against contact dermatitis. The dry skin turned into extremely greasy and oily. My face also now looks way darker than the rest of my body from all the greasiness I think. I fear that this is permanent 😢 I would appreciate any advice as I’m extremely depressed and stressed from all this.

Normally I’d quote the youth and say “don’t @ me,” but in this case I’m just going to say thank you for this. My face is currently rebelling harder than Princess Leia in Star Wars, and frankly, it’s embarrassing and panic-inducing. So your tips and reassurance about using things like glycolic acid (the Biossance mask is wonderful) and Paula’s Choice products makes me feel a little better, because if things are Elle-approved, then eventually my skin will return to being me-approved. Again, many thanks and much love.

Hey! I know this is old, but for you or anyone else reading, this kind of sounds like Seborrheic Dermatitis. I think it’s fairly common around the nose. A topical antifungal/dandruff shampoo can help. There’s lots of info on it. May be worth a shot! For me and most people I’ve interacted with, the whole face is dehydrated/oily. It’s like your whole face feels deeply thirsty and parched. Oily skin with painful/itchy flakes in patches may be something else. Hope this cleared up for you!

Is Castile soap too harsh? I used Noxzema for at least 40 years on my skin, but I have always had blackheads. I recently started to wonder if maybe that was causing them. A Mary Kay rep kept bugging me about trying some cleanser for acne, but I think it's just dried the surface of my skin even more and there is no difference in the blackhead situation. The thing I loved about Noxzema was the menthol. I do not feel awake if I do not use it in the morning. So, today I was TRYING to figure out how to do my eyebrows and made a huge muddy mess across my forehead and my Castile soap was sitting on the counter, so I decided to see if it would take off all of that eyebrow mess. It did a great job in just one quick was and a realized that it felt really nice an minty! Would this make my 61yo oily/dry skin worse or better?

@@dollycaldwell4938 Hi. I cleanse with a mild face wash twice a day, and use a lightweight moisturizer twice a day as well. I work in vitamin c, and niacinamide in the morning. When I have time, I try to give 5 to ten minutes between each skin care application to let it sink in. The best I've been able to come up with so far is to apply makeup with a damp beauty blender, and even when applying something like blush or highlighter, I more like stipple and not swipe, because if I swipe, then the peeling from the Retin A can come up and make my face look cakey. It's not fool proof, but I'm trying to really concentrate on consistent moisturizer application. Sometimes at night I do apply rose hip oil but yeah, I'm open to suggestions though.
